    Expanding With Lots of Land

One tip from my own experience, that no one has mentioned yet: take any barb cities that appear, before your AI neighbour scoops them with a wandering chariot. Doubly so if that AI is Creative and you're not. That can really spoil a great piece of "uncontested" land. If you can't afford the...

    High-food map script?

I find Donut maps give high food starts quite often (funnily enough considering it's named after a foodstuff :p). Even something crazy like triple corn + two seafood isn't too rare. On the downside, happiness resources are quite rare (partly because there's no tundra for furs and silver to...

    Very strange map

Reminds me of this :D. What settings did you use with the PlanetGenerator mapscript to get that?

    Do you choose your Civ?

I almost always choose, since I can't stand getting the same civ or even the same trait twice in a row. Of course, I choose some leaders more often than others... (*cough* Huayna *cough*) Plus what TheMulattoMaker said about stacking the deck applies here too :mischief:. When I feel like a...

    Funny Screenshots: Part Deux

    1) I would've thought 100% culture was enough to own a tile... seems not. :crazyeye: 2) Funny in a different sort of way... the sad joke that is hidden diplo modifiers  (and "worst enemy" mechanics for that matter) 3-4) Hammurabi is losing in one war... but still thinks he can win the...

    Best Starting Techs?

Dragging this slightly off-topic now, but I tried Nationalism/Rifling on a small Pangaea (edit: on Monarch level), with predictable results (conquest win in 400BC). I never even lost a battle. So... yeah.

    Your Civ4 Identity

Favourite Leader: Huayna Capac Favourite Civ: Inca (even if we are considering leaders and civs independently :D) Favourite AI: Isabella (easy to befriend, and easy to conquer :D) Least Favourite AI: Shaka Strengths: research, expansion Weaknesses: modern era war, espionage Favorite Diplo...

    Best Starting Techs?

OK, I can see this "best starting techs without being restricted to the first column" thing is worth its own thread... 6 pop isn't that hard to reach, and even then it doesn't need to all be happy. Plus the barracks gives you +2:) under Nationhood to cover most of the draft . And as for...

    Best Starting Techs?

How about Nationalism and Rifling. :p Personally, I hate Wheel as a starting tech. Sure, it guarantees your worker has something to do, but I'd rather have my food specials improved sooner than have a few extra roaded tiles. Ag/Mining is my pick for a random start.

    ways into happiness

The second line is the :) from Notre Dame. I don't know why they put it on a separate line but gave it the same text, maybe they meant to put some other text there and just forgot?

    Biggest FAIL ever

Well I had a fail day today... - Bulbed Astronomy the same turn I finished Colossus (well at least no one else got it... :p) - Lost Pyramids by one turn... in 1230 AD.

    Playing Settler

^ Hey, I was just gonna mention that myself ;) Another thing I tried once was a Duel Lakes 18 civ conquest game with Inca, just to see how quick I could finish.

    Great Coincidence

That white blob in the corner is sea ice, which counts as a water tile. Presumably, there is more water off the screen, since the sea has to have at least 10 water tiles for coastal buildings and wonders to be available. (The map looks like a Fantasy Realm, which would also explain the tundra...

How many beakers a Great Person can actually give you by bulbing?

It's Shift. Though sometimes it doesn't work, for no apparent reason, and other times it bugs out and thinks I've let go of Shift (making the GM move, after which you can't check the mission value, which is just stupid).

    Uses for old units

Interesting... what exactly are the factors that influence the AI to accept or refuse gifted units? I'd guess this would suffer the same problems as using obsolete units to soften defenders - War Success for the AI, war  for you.

    Vanilla Cheese

Now you mention that, I recall reading about a bug that let you get infinite techs from the Oracle or Liberalism. Something involving save and reload, I think. Another minor bit of Vanilla cheese is early chopping. This was changed in a fairly early patch so you didn't get the full amount of...

    How Long Can you Survive...

Re. Paradigm's suggested turn limit: I have seen instances where AI civs are unable to settle due to the 2-tile restriction (which can happen on Duel with 18 civs). After some amount of turns, all city-less AIs get destroyed, and all at the same time. It could be that they got bumped off the...

Ah, yes, that would be the better way to test it. But my way's more fun :p

How enable United Nations without Diplomatic Victory?

There was a thread where a code "fix" was posted, but it didn't quite work (the Diplo Victory resolution still comes up; I never found out if you can still win this way, but I doubt it). Unfortunately, I never looked into it further, since I know next to nothing about the code, and my preference...
