How to make them pay ?

Hi all, I am currently playing at Emperor (lv 6) and I fail to understand when the AI will agree to give you all their gold to make peace. With mid-size armies, you can usually crush another civ until they are considered "weak" and they will agree to pay you. Sometimes, a far civ will...

City States decreasing rep from gold

Hi all, If I buy City-State reputation 4 times @ 250 gold, will I be more penalized than if I buy 1 times @ 1,000 gold? i.e. is the decreasing rep gain calculated with: a) the total gold spent or b) total rep bought. Many thanks all for your time. Frank. Emperor

    Enough With Emphasizing Food Already!

I can't comment on commerce. However, when I emphasized production, sometimes, the governer thought I would build my library faster by growing the city +1 population THEN emphasizing production. So, in the end, the governer was actually right, I did build my library faster by growing first...

    Kiershar's guide to Multiplayer Warmongering

The warrior rush probably would work well in MP but if my friends are physically sitting next to me and CIV was our plan for the next few hours, I wouldn't dare! With non-LAN games, it's probably a good idea though. Thanks! ::always a pleasure to bumb good articles :goodjob: ::

    Islands: Heaven or Hell?

Yeah, I'm playing more and more random elements in my games. It balances out UUs... "look at all that production bonuses from Iron mines... GO Jaguars GO." Hum. Back on topic: Vikings are a lot more fun on a random map! I did suggest my girlfriend to pick them for her first Archipelago...

Civilization IV Leader Traits: Self-Actualization, Axemen, and You

Charismatic leader or not, I build the Stonehedge in about 8 games/10. I know I'm biased here, but how do you guys survive without the +1 culture that Stonehedge provides? P.S. playing large + maps here

10 FAQs before Declaring a War

Thx for the guide. My last 2 games were focused on Warmongering to get as many Generals as possible. Turns out quite effective. I just got Rifling and 2 of my cities can produce units with 11 experience! In that case, the upkeep cost of my army is minimal because I need much less units and...

    Kiershar's guide to Multiplayer Warmongering

Hi guys, I usually play Large maps (or larger) in MP and axemen's 1 movement point makes them almost useless in Quick games. It seemed that focusing on religions or cottages early really paid.

    Let's Make a World War

About the cost of bribery.. Obviously, when you want a civ to attack your enemy it's more expensive if you're not already at war with that enemy. Someone knows how much more expensive? It looks like about 30-50%.. Also, you get more "excuses" when you're not already at war. thx
