What are the mechanics behind trade route base profits?
I just won a game and before I exited I took a look around in the cities of other civs (my high espionage allowed me to peek inside). The first thing that I noticed was their trade routes were considerable more profitable than my own. My...
I regularly use this type of Privateer strategy and find it very effective.
In my last game I positioned small groups (2-4) of privateers wherever I found marine resources or AI naval activity. My privateers would usually wait in AI coastal cities to ambush any AI triremes/caravels/galleons...
Chose Monarch level on a standard map. All seems to be going well but I'm unclear on strategy to win this game.
I have some very good friends; Saladin and Ragnar are both friendly and Sulieman is pleased. We all share the same faith.
I checked Permanent Alliances 'on'. From a few skim...
No, the message said I declared on him even though I did not.
To re-cap, Charlemagne of the HRE is my vassal on my continent. I capture several Viking cities overseas. Ragnar of the Vikings becomes my vassal. I grant independence to the former Viking cities. At that very moment the war horn...
When it happened the message said that I had declared war on Charlemagne. All I did was grant independence to a far away land.

In both Chess and Backgammon. In both cases the computer can smash even the strongest human opponents.
TBS Civ games have now been around for 20+ years and it seems that no attempt has been made at creating a decent AI.
It is the biggest let down of the whole series and always results in...

My vassal, Shaka, and I were already at war against Tokugawa of Japan but Shaka takes the diplomatic fallout rather than me.
He actually messed up pretty bad because he used the tactical nukes to hit stacks just two tiles away from his city so he has nuclear pollution in his own city...
Hi Folks, I just need a reminder on something. Today I re-installed Civ 4 with Blue Marble and BUG mod. The last time I played the interface had a really useful feature, when looking at the map and glancing at cities there was a number next to the city name that indicated how many turns until...
I don't think this is true. If your enemy has open borders with your friend then the enemy is clearly not in a state of war with said friend. If this is the case your enemy cannot attack your aircraft in the safety of your friend's city.
