Influence is obtained in the Neolithic era by hunting and plucking curiosities. And the first outpost is dirt cheap (5 Influence). And, when you decide to switch to the Ancient era, the 1st city is free and instant. And it seems to be quite a bit cheaper to build a new outpost if it's territory...

Looks like there's still not an option to set starting points for the civs. Until they do that, I doubt I'll be using the World Builder. Maybe it's one of the "advanced options" they are still working on? :)

That's a pity, because Indonesia thrives on archipelago maps, where nearly everything is a coast tile and where her Kampung are very useful (She can even viably settle tiny islands as a result). She and Australia both have very powerful coastal synergies.

Always so many caveats with such lists. Are we talking single or multi-player? What type of map (Peter on a cold map vs Peter on a hot, arid map)? What level of player knowledge? (Easy for starter players? Hard to master but powerful in the hands of a skilled player at Diety?) What preference...

9/10 I loved the Polynesians in Civ V, winning culture games on sea maps. Now I love the Maori. Plus I like the new dynamic map features. Very happy here. Would get a 10/10 if the Worldbuilder was up.
