Alphabetical ordering of the achievement list. The consensus is that the civs fall into these positions alphabetically: Assyria Brazil ? ? Poland Portugal ? ? Zulus Therefore, Indonesia and Morocco almost being a certainty would fill the first two slots, so the remaining civs would fall...

You never know... Perhaps the devs are big football fans. The Euros took place at a time when they would have been thinking of new civs. ;)

I can't help but feel Venice over Italy would be a bit of a cop out by the devs. Like they couldn't see past the Rome situation. However, I feel no ill will towards Venice. Just mild disappointment.

Yep. Britain as a collective: Correct. England as a collective: Incorrect.

The important distinction is that in the time of the Battle of Agincourt, the Kingdom of Scotland was a wholly separate entity. Unlike Wales, it has at no point in its history come under the banner of "England", any more than Iowa has come under the banner of "Texas".

They're already listed as the English in the revealed Scramble for Africa achievements, so that's not going to happen.

Just to correct you, The Planets is a suite under a single opus number (containing 7 movements, one for each planet), so regarding it as a single work is quite correct.

"The" is eliminated from alphabetical consideration. The G&K achievement list attests to this (with The Celts, The Maya going under C and M, respectively).

Having just skimmed through the wiki history of Singapore, it appears that it is and always has been a single city entity. Am I wrong in this assertion? Would there be a potential city list? Sorry if I have missed something.

Sorry to tell you this, but Wales was just a part of the Kingdom of England under Elizabeth. Therefore, it's quite acceptable to think of the Welsh Longbowmen as an English UU. Also, the English were one of the first adopters of the Ship of the Line during the 17th century, in the lead up to...

They are "England" in the Scramble for Africa scenario. At least two of the achievements refer to them as such. This makes the reference to Britain even more unusual.

This is where you're going wrong. This game isn't about countries, it's about civilizations (hint: clue is in the title).

My only problem with this option is that I feel the Romans should have priority over Rome as a capital (it being their namesake, and all). The system in place wouldn't ensure they would get it first.

1) Italy has a Renaissance leader (de Medici, say), in which case the capital would be Florence, with Rome somewhere else on the list. 2) Italy has a Unified leader (Garibaldi, say), in which case either Turin or Florence would be capital (both were capitals historically before Rome), with Rome...

But then the Scramble for Africa achievements use England: "The Rhodes Colossus: Playing as England in Scramble for Africa, complete a railroad from Cairo to Capetown," where it would make far more sense to have called them Britain, so I'm thinking it's an oversight.
