I second the worker thing - even if they are nowhere near the worker in question, workers constantly stop building improvements to get new orders. An icon or indicator of why would be very helpful and stop me from walking away from my unimproved tiles. Sometimes I have to scroll a full screen...
I would have less of a problem with this kind of thing if buying through Steam was one option among many. Then you could take on steam as something of an educated risk.
But if you buy a box copy, you still have to activate through steam. I can't imagine how angry I'd be if I tried to buy DLC...
Civ 3 was crazily painful until Conquests, and that merely made it reasonable. I kept trying it, but ultimately stayed with Civ2 until Civ4 came out. Civ4 was playable and sucked me into a whole new civ game in a way Civ3 just couldn't.
I'm not sure how you define "best", but I find the aztecs the most fun to play a good war game with. The culture bump is minor from a math perspective, but it motivates me to find people to attack and sacrifice to my hungry gods! It just makes the whole experience more enjoyable, really.
If it were a static product, I would be disappointed, but I paid for it and am willing to wait for patches. I play Civ games on and off for years, the $150ish total with all expansions is about $30/year of enjoyment... good deal!
I am just really enjoying the experience, I have had too much fun to take time to make posts. ;) We pre-ordered our copies for our anniversary in July, and I am not at all disappointed after the wait. It isn't perfect, but it just feels fun to play, and isn't that what games are about?
A friend of mine and I did this in multiplayer. I was at "war" with my friend, so he could walk at will through my territory, but at peace and closed borders with the AI he was warring with. As I completely blocked any non-ocean path between the two civs, my friend was immune to counterattack...
I apologize in advance for lack of detail and pictures. I have disabled hands and I type via trackball, so inputting links and such is quite difficult. I have been a civ fan since the first one, but was never very good at it. Now that it is really the only good game I can play, I have put a lot...
Thank you very much for posting this game. I had no idea the huge difference between CR3 and CR2-Combat 1 units. You have given me a new level of respect for the proper promotions.
