Can we have a dedicated strategy forum

Please. It's so tiresome to see the long list of navel-gazing posts about how somebody really thinks ciV should be more like cIV in some particular way. Literally 1/2 of the posts in "general" are the same pointless whines or really should have been posted/moved to the ideas/suggestions...

Is it still unplayable? - From an expert strategic player view

It was never unplayable. You are buying into a myth perpetuated by whiners. The AI isn't perfect, but given a critical mass of resources it becomes formidable. Yes, it is weak in the early game before it has a large enough resource base. No, the patches didn't fix any of the things you heard...

King difficulty; getting my.. kicked, help

It took me 4 or 5 games to get King level figured out after finding prince absurdly easy also. My only advice is warmonger early and often. The first game that I was excellently situated I was more or less perpetually at war from the founding of my second city on. I was able to get peace...

    Proof Of Poor Game Balance

To say this is "proof of poor game balance" is to grossly overstate the point. It's proof that there's a poorly thought-out feature, but one feature does not game balance make.

    Is this game too easy?

Huh, personally I've had trouble with King-level opponents on normal maps. It may be that I just don't warmonger aggressively enough early enough to stunt their growth, but computer opponents have seemed entirely competent when they have a sizable force to work with.

    Why Civ V it's a good game....

Because religion was the absolute end-all be-all of diplomacy. Can the US and Israel ever be allies? What about Japan and the US? What about Germany and Italy? What about Germany and Japan? NO BECAUSE THEY'RE DIFFERENT RELIGIONS -6

Is unit maintenance cost out of whack?

I agree, they need to itemize how much these things are costing. I enjoy the game a lot, but I find my army cost structure to be an absolute mystery. How much is this mech infantry going to cost to maintain? No idea your excellency, let's build it and find out if it bankrupts us.

How to you manage a large invasion force across the ocean?

If you don't like it, play as the Songhai. End of story. Otherwise, you should be making SMART use of ZOC to keep enemies from getting at your transports. Hint: DON'T BOMBARD FROM 2 SQUARES AWAY, get up in his grill so he can't sail around you and hit your embarked units.

    Social Policies: Liberty

Is it just me, or is liberty the weakest social policy track available? I understand that it's designed to facilitate rapid expansion (and putting 1 point in to open up the cheap settler is helpful) but above the initial benefit, the rest of the tree feels fairly worthless. The problem is...

Civ V is more complex than Civ IV

Yes, exactly right. I couldn't have said it better myself. Culture in Civ4 was important only as a local phenomenon. Can I push the other player off that tile I want? Is there any real long-term consequence to stacking culture buildings rather than another kind (not really). In Civ5...

    The lowest victory

I agree, the war declaration transport was a good idea just to prevent cheese victories. (Not that I'm throwing stones at you for taking it, it just shouldn't be possible.)

    Pact of Cooperation???

It's really not that hard. It's just a statement of intent to be friends. If you're going for a cultural victory, use them along with granting mutual open borders to keep people convinced of your good intentions right up to the point when you start constructing the Utopia Project. Hint...

    Border Expansion beyond 3 tiles

IIRC, culture cost for tiles was impacted by other factors. I think the example given was that it was more expensive to spread culture across a river. I could be mistaken or misremembering, but I'm pretty sure I saw that in an official video.

IGN Review (not that it matters, they suck)

I think you're botting. You say something like this essentially every thread.

    Unhappy with Great Wall

Either there are spearmen or there aren't. If there are spearmen then the archers don't have to kite anybody (infantry or calvary), it's just going to be a standard set-piece battle. If there aren't spearmen, then archers can kite try infantry but insta-lose to calvary if they try to stand...

    Unhappy with Great Wall

Rather than deciding that GW is OP based on some gut sense, I decided to diagram it out to help me think about what exactly the Great Wall does. Here's my scenario: -A city with uniform 2-hex borders meant to represent a mid-game position. With the advent of artillery the issue of the GW...

    No copper

And what units should require it? Spearmen again and nothing else? Or should they add in axemen again just to justify having copper? I'm going to assume that it just wasn't worth having for the sake of one unit and it wasn't worth adding units to justify adding one more resource.

    Aircraft carriers vs battleships

IIRC, air units get a penalty when attacking navel units as part of the game balance, although that may have applied to bombers only. Maybe somebody can correct me if I'm mistaken.

Answer to people who wondered why 2K use Steam even for retail...

10 years ago? Pshaw, remember 20 years ago when the original Sim City came with that too-dark-for-photocopiers-of-the-time paper with 4 obtuse symbols paired with a city name. And they gave you these 4 symbols and you had to search the whole list of annoying symbols (all boxes with some...

Is Civ 5 really "being dumbed down"?

This is a new and interesting topic that has not been asked, opined upon, brought up and generally beaten to death 5 times a week for the last month.
