The Europe map has a lot of land, it's sort of like a Pangaea map with low sea level. Having more city states with more civs will definitely help. Just keep adding civs till you feel it is no longer barren.

I do hope they eventually increase the maximum number of civilizations in games. Computers are continuing to get more powerful, eventually there will be machines able to handle all 33 (or, in the future, more) civilizations on a map size even larger than the current "Huge" size.

I want to see the Ancient and Classical Eras made longer with more potential for warfare, trade etc. Mighty empires rose and fell in the Ancient and Classical Eras ... in civ V you don't get any decent territory until the medieval era, usually.

If artillery are really that imbalanced, just take away all sight range from them except for one tile in either direction. This way they MUST HAVE a spotter ... just like real artillery.
