It doesn't really do anything other than getting the access to each other's territory.
International trade route doesn't worth investment because Civ V's AI loves to DOW and it's very difficult to maintain a stable foreign relation.

For this game, probably not.
But when start over, check your advance game setting. Make sure you do not check the "turn limit" option. that will force the game to end i guess, but i never try it in a real game.

this AI sounds like a multi-players game to me. No Human player will be your buddy forever and can change their side instantly when the time is right unless preset teams is in place.
I almost always use a Great Engineer for wonder rush build. it's very useful in this sense.

Turn speed does not relate to the graphic effect or detail level. it's on the AI complexity. the more civ or CS you have on the same map, the longer you will have to wait.
I am using a laptop with very marginal hardware spec to play Civ 5, i got 30 to 90 seconds waiting time per turn as well...
I couldn't agree more. Civ is a board game, rules are set to make it playable, and everybody follows the same rule, not a reality simulation game. And the best part, if you don't like the rule, you can mod it. this is a great platform to play around.
In fact, i like Civ5 better on this. Land grabbing oriented gameplay style is not my taste. I prefer a more resource dependant oriented gameplay style. Bigger is not the only way out anymore.

I got it on the 2nd day in two games...... early game wonders are about options. If I chooses stone hinge as the first wonder to build, i need to spend turns on tech and production of the wonder. Chances are when i am at it, some of the other AI civs will get to wonders other than stone hinge...
The key difference between mara/epic vs standard mode is the value of what you can do in one turn. The value of getting extra gold or extra units in one turn has more impact to the game in mara/epic mode than in standard mode. Therefore keeping your unit alive every turn becomes more valuable...
