Which Civs would you consider "top tier"

Eh, the paper maker isn't nearly as good as it used to be. I think the wat is significantly better, post-patch.

Why cant I steal Machu Pichu

I've had this happen a few times as well. Check out which civ built Machu Pichu (in the diplomacy screen) before targeting adjacent cities.

Which Civs would you consider "top tier"

Overall, I think Siam is currently the best Civ. Now that libraries have zero specialist spots, the Wat is extremely strong--probably the best UB. This synergizes with Siam's UA, which enables you to take more citizens off the land. Contrary to the OP, I don't think Japan is an especially...

Which Civs would you consider "top tier"

I agree that the Iroquois civ is volatile because its bonuses are all linked to the terrain. But, IME, the start bias is usually sufficiently strong to give you at least 2-3 cities with a significant amount of forest. This is excellent for defense, unit production, and minimization of upkeep...

    Need advice on warmonger strategy

I agree, but the window during which greece has an advantage over china is fleeting. As soon as china obtains a GG or two, things are at least evened out. This is quite sensible. The biggest problem with keshiks is their inability to take cities and lack of a blitz promotion. Horsemen with...

    Need advice on warmonger strategy

China and Mongolia are the obvious choices. I think China tends to be stronger in the long run because of its economy and the fact that its GG bonus is useful for both melee and ranged units. But Mongolia is a lot more fun to play as, I think. Healing + movement makes it very good at capturing a...

    Domination tactics

I usually prioritize by geography and strength: I'll go after the closest civ if it poses a real threat (e.g., has research lead and production capacity to screw me over). If the closest civ is comparatively weak and we have decent relations, however, I'll go after a stronger civ first.

Always crashes on turn 211 - runtime error

Has anyone else encountered something like this? I've played tons of civ 5 games to completion before this (mostly pre-patch) so I don't think it's related to my hardware. Also, I've tried loading the same save (via steam cloud) on a different computer and it crashes on exactly the same turn...

    Best Tech Tree path?

I like the top half so that I can get education, which helps establish a tech lead, and biology to unlock the order policy tree.

Any way to win on Diety without an early rush?

Sure. For some reason, the AI is incredibly bad at capitalizing on its advantages to produce a solid tech lead. Around turn 90, I'm usually about 10% behind the most literate civ. This gap stays approximately the same until I've cleared out my continent and gotten happiness under control. By...

    The Mongol DLC scenario

No, this doesn't work. When you recapture it, it doesn't give you the option to liberate.

    Soren Johnson's Blog

Precisely the opposite. The most common criticism of this game is that the AI is completely inept at combat. The only difficulty level that presents any challenge at all is deity, and it tends to be a very boring type of challenge.

    ZOMG - chess?!

I don't think chess AI is a true brute force AI. Games like chessmaster have a dictionary of opening moves that matches a high level players knowledge of chess games; in addition they use lots of heuristics to prune paths of inquiry so that the computer can move in 10-20 seconds instead of 10...

    China broken?

This does not make china broken. It tends to be much more useful for ranged units (Chu-Ko-Nus) than melee units (rifleman) because the latter often has to be repositioned, using up the movement point that would be needed for a second attack, and takes damage on attack. Nor do I think China...

    Stealth Bombers...

If they were intercepted less often, the cost of acquiring stealth bombers would have to rise dramatically--you'd be dealing with an airborne GDR. That would make for a more interesting game, though.
