Ways to force open borders for Great Musicians?

This: If you watch the animation of the modern-era "musicians" performing, it is easy to imagine.

    More uses for artifacts

It's that whole "balance" thing. By "forcing" you to choose the artifact or monument, this compels you to work for those artifacts (you MUST build/buy enough buildings to hold them) rather than willy-nilly snatching them up and worry about the consequences later. It also "balances" in that, if...

Just won my first Prince game

Congrats. I finally went to Prince and haven't moved past it. If fact, I am enjoying the game so much, and I don't "crave" any more challenge, that I think I may stay at this level indefinitely.

    Border Expansion/growth and Staking Claims

I always considered the "automatic" tile acquisition as representative of the "natural" or "organic" evolution of my society's outward expansion (people migrating out on their own to find new spaces). In contrast, I still exercise my control as "Supreme Ruler" of my civilization by "buying" new...

[BNW] How to Get Comfortable with City-States

What leve are you playing on? I only play on Prince, so any strategy I may have will only do you any good if you don't play higher than that.

Can't get anywhere as Russia - Bankrupt and Unhappy in early game.

I did't know it was debunked. Now I'll have to try it in my next game and see. I don't usually use this strategy myself as I am a little OCD when it comes to roads: I always build them for aesthetic value first. As such, I don't always build them in the most cost-efficient manner and never pay...

Can't get anywhere as Russia - Bankrupt and Unhappy in early game.

I don't think you pay for road tiles that are not within your national borders. Start building your road from the middle (in "no-man's land") and build out from there, both directions if you like, toward your cities. This way, you only start paying for roads toward the end of the completion of...

    BNW Spies MIA on MAC?

I'm running a save game from my brother's Mac, and I think he doesn't have all the DLCs. However, he *does* have the last GaK expat, so...?

    Purchase Great Prophets with Faith

Thank you all. The answer I was looking for is "Industrial Era". And, for the record, the Great Prophet *does* still get the boost from the Mosque of Djenee (so, five uses). Also, my Holy City was (and usually is) my capitol; but I build the mosque in another city.

    Great Galleass Question

You mean the Great Galleass can range attach AND melee attack? Or is it only that it can take cities?

    Purchase Great Prophets with Faith

I know that in the early game, you cannot "manually" purchase a Great Prophet with fait (though the game will do this "automatically" for you). I also know that at "some point", the ability to manually purchase a Great Prophet with fait becomes available. My question is... when? What...

    BNW Spies MIA on MAC?

I just completed my first game of BNW and noticed that I never got spies! I noticed very late (Industrial Age - I was distracted by all the other new stuff) that I never received the "you've got a spy" message. There was not even a button for it in the interface. I thought maybe is was moved to...

Sick of people making excuses for 2000 years of peace

I am playing my first game on Warlord (I usually play on Prince, but I wanted to "take if for a spin"). In my game I started (as Zulu) on a landmass (Continents Plus map, Marathon game speed) with two other AI: Mongols and Ottoman. The other major landmass had the other five (standard size map...

    Simple questions, simple answers

My brother *is* running BNW; he is playing as Shaka (Zulu), which he could not be doing did he not have the expansion. We loaded the same initial (turn 0) save game file (from the game he started and saved on his Mac in Steam) - he on his Mac and me on my PC. We are playing two "parallel"...

    Simple questions, simple answers

Thank you! I thought I was going crazy. In my game (on the PC/Steam version of the game), my "reveals iron on the map" is at Bronze Working. However, on my brothers game (we started using the same "turn 0" save game file), his iron is at Iron Working, along with Swords. !?

    Patch incoming

I like the patch over-all, especially since my symptoms, which include pretty much everything that has been listed here, are likely due to the fact that I am playing a "pre-patch" save-game. I know, they "said" it worked with saves, but... In addition to all (literally) the symptoms others have...

    Civilization themed birthday party?

Cool idea! And my girlfriend used to play Civilization 3 and then 4 all the time. Now she's playing WoW (since about three years ago). We've been married for over 23 years now. As far as your party, I think the cake should be a stylized map, with miniature wonders on it (you should be able to...

Civ 5 problem, no one can explain

I agree. I have mine turned up to the highest quality setting, but to OP's looks cool. It looks like the "sun" is at a lower angle or something; like it is evening time.

Is it still important to improve tiles manually?

I sued to *always* have my workers on automatic in CIV IV (or at least one of the "limited auto" that is still absent from Civ V), but after the first couple of games in Civ V, I quickly learned that this does not work. In addition to the worst road-building I have EVER seen (if an obstruction...
