    New to MP

This exact same problem happens with the simultaneous moves, since you are always encouraged to wait as long as you can to end your turn so that you can not be surprised by enemy action. If you are that enemy, you are still encouraged to wait so that you can attack at the end of a turn and then...

Really worried about a lack of some tech prerequisites

I won't argue that the existing requirements for Globalization make any sense, however, I would say that 'globalization' in general was not dependent on the Internet. The term may have come into general use in the 20th century but the process was already well underway before that, since it is...

    Sinking 357 ships

I've also found it helpful to declare war against a coastal City State and rack up experience bombarding their city. It's even better if you don't share a landmass with them since they won't be able to try and counterattack you. The only moderate danger they pose is later in the game when they...

The SINGLE MOST important change in the new PATCH RE: MULTIPLAYER

I apologize, I didn't realize one sentence counted as a 'rant'.

The SINGLE MOST important change in the new PATCH RE: MULTIPLAYER

The lag and lobby crashes dwarfs any other issue into insignificance, so multi-player will still be unplayable after the patch as far as I'm concerned. That said, since I only very seldom saved promotions for insta-healing, I don't see those changes or the Horseman/siege changes really making...

    Hidden Steam Achievements

Yes, but we've discovered that some achievements are still listed as 0% even when people are known to have them. For example, at the time I finished 'Ruler of the Seas' it still appeared as 0% on the global completion list.

    Some noob questions about multiplayer...

If you are looking to buy a product based solely on your desire for multi-player, I would tell you to run, not walk, away from Civ V. As has already been pointed out, the active community size is quite low. You can easily get a sense of that by just looking at how many new threads get started...

Death of Conventional Strategies? [11/18 Patch Notes]

You might be well advised to wait until more information comes out regarding the "Multiple Tech Tree tweaks to address “slingshot” tech exploits." changes.

    Here's how to stop bum-rushing multi-players

Going by my own experiences and the comments from others in this thread, this seems like a very anomalous result. The only time I've ever had a barbarian even attack a city in any game I've played was when I twiddled the game settings and my own play to get the 'He Threw Car At My Head!'...

    Stealth Bombers NEVER promote

Is it a bug? I thought there was something directly in the game that said that Stealth Bombers don't earn experience, presumably since promoting them would make them too overpowered. Which then leaves the promotable Bomber as the better choice over the long-term.

Anyone know if Civ5 has been pirated yet?

Pop over to the multiplayer forum and you can find a guy proudly mentioning that nearly 60% of their community has Steam-activated copies. I'll leave you to guess what that means regarding the other 40% of their players.

    Here's how to stop bum-rushing multi-players

It is always nice to be prepared, but don't make any assumptions about how badly barbarians will impact your (competent) opponents. I typically ignore them completely with my troops and deal with them via city-shots. It works fine since I usually don't start any kind of tile development until...

Death of Conventional Strategies? [11/18 Patch Notes]

The problem with this is easier to see if you look at the Modern Era unit types. You have Tank, Anti-Tank, Artillery, Infantry, and Anti-Air. To have a 'proper' combined-arms battle, this is 5 different units that are a pain to manage under the 1UPT format. It's not only annoying just moving...

Death of Conventional Strategies? [11/18 Patch Notes]

Yet another interesting point to refute the 'designers didn't intend policies to be saved' crowd. Effective use of the Total War policy practically demands you keep a policy saved so you can trigger it at the right time. Especially if, as another poster pointed out in a different thread, you...

Would an eary war helpin mp

In a typical game you will probably win with this. I usually pump out Warriors while I go for Horse Back Riding, after HBR I go for Iron Working. I don't try to settle more than 2 cities myself. City #2 gets placed to get me Horses and #3 goes for Iron. Build your cities right on the...

Death of Conventional Strategies? [11/18 Patch Notes]

That's what I said before when I mentioned you can prove nearly any point with realism. I think most people might agree that the world went through more societal changes in the 20th century than during any other previous 100-year period, so why is it not 'real' to have the equivalent in Civ V...

Death of Conventional Strategies? [11/18 Patch Notes]

The other problem with realism is that you can make an argument that almost anything is realistic. I think it is far easier to get agreement on what is fun than what is real. As pointed out, it's already not real by default.

    China diety strategy (culture+science focus)

I don't know why such a statement would be even remotely credible. Firstly, unless a developer comes out and makes a definitive statement nobody can claim anything was intended or not. It's all a guess no matter how plausible the guess may seem. Secondly, since the game as released allows you...
