How I beat the Mongol Scenario on Deity

To get Khaaan! you need to actually lose by score, as well as running out of time. Load up a save near the end of your game and sell your cities to an AI. If you run out of time with the highest score, you win although not by the correct victory condition, so you don't get the win achievement...

I just realized I passed the 500 hour mark...

425 hours here - seemed like a lot until I considered that my WoW /played was almost 10x that.

Does anyone still play both Civ4 and Civ5?

I was wondering about getting CivIII as well - complete edition is £2.99 on Steam.

Does anyone still play both Civ4 and Civ5?

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to buy it - £6.85 for the game plus 2 expansions is too much of a bargain to miss out on :D

Does anyone still play both Civ4 and Civ5?

I'm wondering if there's anyone here who plays both Civ5 and Civ4 regularly. I played older Civ games (1 and 2), but missed out on Civ3 and Civ4. I really enjoy Civ5, but I'm considering buying Civ4 as so many people seem to love it. My questions are: If you've played Civ5 and enjoyed it...

    Favourite civ

I enjoy playing the Incans - it's great being able to move quickly through hilly terrain, cheaper roads never hurt, and the unique tile improvement is cool. Rome fits my play style nicely as I tend to want to build everything in all my cities, and the Roman UA is ideal for this. England are...

Wonders of the Ancient World Scenario

There wasn't a lot of food initially in the capital for my game, but I did get 2 extra citizens from ruins. I had to micro them a bit to prevent starvation - full production focus just wasn't viable at the start. IIRC I bought a granary to allow me to work a few more hammer tiles quickly.

:goodjob: Well done - glad it helped!

Civ just not made for "hardcore" players?

Maybe, just maybe, it's down to the all-pervading tone of arrogance in your posts. I played Civ 2 back in the day, took a long break, and returned to the series just before Civ 5 was released. In the meantime, I played a lot of Starcraft and WoW. Returning to Civ (and finding CFC) has been eye...

Wonders of the Ancient World Scenario

Just won on Deity as Egypt on the historical map. I moved my settler to the east and founded Memphis on a coastal silver deposit with a marble tile in the second ring. Initial build order was scout, scout, settler, settler (bought an archer for barb defence). First policy was tradition opener...

Wainy's (Cultural!) Deity LP - Persia

Agreed that PT isn't as effective in the hands of an AI as it is for a human, but still - the AI has enough advantages on Deity without adding to it. On balance, I think the PT could have still made the difference, given the number of RAs used to push through Archaeology. Having more beakers per...

Wainy's (Cultural!) Deity LP - Persia

It shows how critical (or overpowered?) the PT is for any victory condition. I think it is worth sacrificing one artist for an engineer for a few reasons: 1) To prevent an AI getting the PT 2) Given the number of RAs signed, receiving 75% median beakers rather than 50% would help reach...

Wainy's (Cultural!) Deity LP - Persia

Nice game(s) - cheers for showing an interesting strategy. Maybe taking an engineer with the liberty great person to stop Germany getting the Porcelain Tower would've slowed their science enough. Did you see if Bismark had Rationalism too? It's been a while since I saw an AI reach Future...

Wainy's (Cultural!) Deity LP - Persia

Wainy: I was wondering whether or not you were planning to settle a coastal city at any point, although I guess not, given your comments above. How important do you think Sydney Opera House, and to a lesser extent Cristo Redentor are in a game of this nature, and is it worth settling a mediocre...

    Korea Scenario

FWIW I'm glad it's scenario-only as it makes no sense as an 'achievement' in a standard game. It's pretty funny that it's easier to win the scenario on deity than to lose. It's also somewhat amusing that your ally fails at helping you win, as well as 'sabotaging' a deliberate loss (hordes of...

Best Civ for Island/Archipelago and why ?

I wouldn't choose Korea on an archipelago map as having a caravel replacement that can't enter deep ocean would be too much of a pain.

    Korea Scenario

Thanks for the tip! Edit: Can anyone else verify that it's possible to get this achievement in a normal game? I tried twice - one game where I deleted my initial settler and got my warrior killed, and another where I got my warrior killed and my settler captured... no Taekwon-DOH.

    MadDjinn's Deity LP - Korea

My thoughts exactly - it was really interesting, not to mention educational, to see such a tense game involving a different set of strategies to those used in most of the lps. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

    Guarded, Hostile, Afraid, Emotionless?

I've seen 'emotionless' a few times but only immediately after liberating a conquered civ. The newly liberated leader shows as emotionless initially.
