oh yes, goodbye_mr_bond did. traderoutes are important, it gives you 100 lights for science + money + trade each time you make a traderoute. So it also speeds up your science.
Your capital on a 1 square island is a good place to defend it. But that's only good as long there are no ironclads. But i don't think it's a good strategy. You need to build a new palace in the city and that's expensive. + your capital is futher from tthe rest of your cities, so other cities...

Håkon, i have never had a advandged tribe in the desert as far i can remember. And i played a lot of games. btw, a city in the desert can not exist if there is no food.

The 17000 score can be beaten, but it takes a very long time. I tried, but stopped the game. It was about 1000ad and i had a score of 13000 - 14000. And i made some mistakes. If i started again i could do better. But it's so boring when you do nothing else then building caravans and move...
You never get advandged tribes on:
* desert
* ice
* mountains
* hills
In that case you get nomads.

1] Huts are not randomly placed on the map. There is a pattern in it.
2] When you start on a map and you see a hut, it's a great chance you get a unit when you take it.
3] Huts that are close to your capital give more settlers then huts that are far away from your capital.
