chosing tech at beginning of new age

In civ III when playing a scientific civ you sometimes got to choose an advance before you got your free tech. If this happened I choose the tech I don't want and then I get as my free tech one of the other 2 entry level techs. You get to choose your tech 1st depending on how you got the tech...

Advanced tribes from goodie huts - is there anyway to stop geting them?

I have only played PTW on the UK.BIC scenario that comes with it. It supposedly has standard rules, but also has may more resources and goodie huts. In my 3 games celts, japanese and vikings I got a total of 5 advanced tribes all in the middle ore end of the goodie hut pillaging phase.

Advanced tribes from goodie huts - is there anyway to stop geting them?

I have just swapped from Civ III to PTW. I have found when pillaging goodie huts sometimes I get an Adavanced tribe (city). Usually I get them just when I am exploring the otherside of the contient of pangea, and usually I end up giving them away as they are just to far from my capitol...

Q about settler factory and granary

I always build a granary (unless building the Pryamids) in cities next to fresh water. These cities can reach a pop of 12 before you have the ability to build aquaducts. In my current game as Cathalage I built granaries in every city because there was not much else I could build as I was...

How do you time your wars?

Except when playing the Aztecs (where I go to war immediately) I hold off going to war with my UU until out of despotism. Then if out of despotism and the UU is available I go to war to trigger my GA. Even when at war I still build. I have my 2 most productive cities concentrating on wonder...

    Questions on luxuries

Lux produce one happy face each until you have a market then the first 2-4 lux (I can't remember the exact number) produce 1 happy face then rest produce 2. I think I have seen 3 happy faces next to some lux. This is due either to the effect of the market on the 8+ lux (about 8 I think) or...

    best civs

Russians - at high level or OCC, good for keeping up in techs. Iroquoi - if I want to dominate a contient early in the game (the Persians are also good). Aztecs - good for war from the very start. Egyptians - peaceful builder

    Resoureses

I like expansionist civs but to find resources you need to have the right techs. Expansionist are good for getting techs, but to know where horses are you need the wheel. The Japanese are an excent civ to spot those horses and once they are hooked up to horses they can build lots of chariots to...

    Technology Trading Strategies

Never take the first offer. Lets say I want Invention, I will ask the AI civ what they want for it. They might reply - Printing Press and Education Then I ask them what they will give for Printing Press and Education. Often they add sometiming to the pot like ivory, gold and/or a...

    Corruption - tips needed

Both the FP and Palace support set of cities in which corruption is not that bad. Ideally these 2 sets should not overlap otherwise you have fewer productive cities. I find that forestry is a good way of adding city improvements very corrupt cities.

    Keeping the Peace

quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wilbill: Oh, the Germans ! Why didn't you say so? I don't think you can keep the Germans (or the Zulus and often the Aztecs) from attacking at least once if they're near you early in the game...

How can I get ahead of the AI in technology by lightyears, and have a large military?

Contact between civs is the key to techological developement. When civs contact each other they trade techs between each other and can quickly catch up any tech lead. I have had games where I have started on the largest contient beat up and surpressed my neighbours. Gone on to build the...

    Thoughts

Razvan_Rosu Here is why I like the Russians At higher levels and in the OCC I find it hard to keep up with techs - a Scientific Civ helps. Expansionist gives an early tech lead, early contact with other civs for trading, a great map for trading and knowledge about resource distribution...

    Thoughts

All levels can give a good game The Russians are the best civilisation, the Aztecs the most fun. Peace is the easiest tactic. War is only necessary when you are losing, but can be fun anytime. Conquering is a must if you are the Aztecs

sorry. Where to go 4 OCC strategy

Anarres Thanks for the link, there looks link a lot of good stuff there. But I can not see any good arguments against Expanionist or for Military, Religous, Industrial or Commercial civs These are good attributes to have if you have more than one city but in the OCC Commercial gives one...

when to switch up from despotism and to what? (kinda long)

I normally go Despotism -> Monarchy -> Democracy or Despotism -> Republic -> Democracy I don't care what goverment I get as long as I am out of depotism as fast as possible. If I am going for a culture win I often go for monarchy as you get the ability to build a temple and Oracle...

sorry. Where to go 4 OCC strategy

Padma Your post has persuaded me that the religious trait is more useful than Industrious, Military and Commercial but I don' t think it matches expansionist. I will however try your suggestion and give the Babylonians a go. Normally it takes about 20 turns to build a temple, as a...

    Research forever! literally...

If you co-operate with other civs then all of you reach the modern age faster. This does not help you win the game but it does help you build the UN or spaceship faster (plus it results in a peaceful game). A backward civ makes no contribution to scientific progress. If I want a quick...
