AI won't build cities! Names missing!

Wait a moment, I had understood that it was just the units from green civs, that didn't show their hometown. But if the cities as such are shown as nameless, it might be the city.txt file that has some errors (though why these should be in all the green civs beats me). Try taking a look at that...

AI won't build cities! Names missing!

I have a suspicion. I notice you have changed the terrain rules, so that the AI will not irrigate anything except tundras untill it reaches Republic. Now, the AI generally seems to regard settlers/engineers as being primarily there to work the land - the founding of new cities is kind of an...

    Gotm 133

OK, in the future I'll submit if I have at least made myself Master of the World by the end of the game , even if I reach that point too late to develop it much (which is what happened in those games, I didn't submit). Anyway, it needs some games I feel ready to play. I've only just started...

    Gotm 133

First and so far only one. I've played 2 or 3 other GOTM, but with results that I didn't find worth submitting (I don't HAVE to score a star every try, but I should feel at least somewhat satisfied with the result)

    color options

There is an even simpler solution: Open rules.txt and scroll down till you reach the part called LEADERS. The second of the numbers between the names of the leaders and the name of the people determine the colour, with 1 being white - so if you change the number of the Americans to 1, they will...

    Eurogamer article/interview with Sid Meier

"We still remember that it's important to get the player's total brain engaged and not just the tips of their fingers." That's why I have always vastly preferred turn-based games to real-timers - I want games to challenge my brain, not my speed of reaction. I got Age of Empires for free with...

Airports making game crash - why?

@the Duke: Ah, so that's it! And, yes, I had quite a number of towns with long names in that game. But if I read the old thread right, shortening the names will make it work again, even if the airport was built while the city had a longer name, right?

Airports making game crash - why?

Oh, but I weren't using them all. I only had two or three freights I wanted to airlift, but the game crashed the moment I tried doing it.

Airports making game crash - why?

@Valka D’Ur: A misunderstanding here, it seems. I didn’t build all those airports in one turn – that took more than a century, but it was only when I had built no. 243 that the game start crashing. And sure, I didn’t need them for transport purposes - the reason for giving every city an airport...

Airports making game crash - why?

@Ndrju: I had plenty of trouble getting the game into my (Windows7)-machine in the first case – I’d try a reinstall only if the whole game or a key part of it stopped working. And that is hardly the case here – at the most the raised bonuses from the last 12 towns might have...

Airports making game crash - why?

Has anyone else experienced this – and found out why it happens? (I’ve tried to make a forum search, but can’t think up a word combination that doesn’t bring up far too many results). What happened is, that in my last game the game started crashing, every time I wanted to airlift a unit...

n00b question - Why are cities not growing?

Have you built a sewer system? Without that, it cannot grow beyond size 12

    civ editing problem

Well, on my old computer I couldn't go beyond 30. I don't know what version that was, - the sleeve on the CD I bought it on said ToT, but I've since realized it definitely wasn't. I've got MGE now, but haven't tried putting more than 30 names in, believing it to be an inherent limitation, like...

    civ editing problem

Did you remember to put '@STOP' at the end of the city list? That might be the problem. 'Adding a buttload' won't help, on the other hand - I have tried putting 50 names in the list, but after no. 30 it still jumped to the extras.

    Welcome New Members

Hello everybody I came across this forum while looking for a way to make Civ2 install and work on Windows 7, and after looking around the place for some time I've decided to join. I got good old No. 2 some five or six years ago and played it heavily for a time. Then my computer grew too...
