Or when you use trebs/cats in a stack with gunpowder units. With your stack selected, it shows the gunpowder defense (w/o walls or castles). Selecting a treb to bombard, you see the non-gunpowder defense (including walls and castles.) Note that walls and castles can reduce the rate at which...
But best not to automate workers. The AI sucks. (Near the end of the game when there's not much left for workers to do, I may start putting them on automatically create trade network--they only build roads/railroads under that setting.)
The AP “Holy War” can only be declared on a civ that doesn’t have the AP religion. So only effective if a majority is in the AP religion, not everyone.
Another one that's map-dependent. On a multi-landmass map, Astronomy is extremely important. On a Pangea-style map, it's of little importance. (I picked it as one of mine because I like multi-landmass maps.) MT and rifling are the military breakout techs in this group, so they're very important...
That's right but I think there's a bug in the code that prevents AIs from building Privateers. And except for Archipelago style maps, by the time the Barbarian State gets to Astronomy plus Chemistry, there isn't likely to be a spot for Privateers to spawn anyways.
Some of this is map dependent. Optics is good if you're on a watery map--gets you a shot at the circumnavigation bonus and meet the AIs on other land masses. But if you're on a Pangea, you get access to whales and not otherwise interesting.
Philosophy is going to be popular for enabling...
Off the top of my head: 1) Religion. 2) How stacks work/siege works. 3) Maintenance mechanic (vs. corruption in earlier versions). 4) Attributes of leaders/different starting techs of different civs/unique buildings (unique units were introduced in Civ III; Civ III also had attributes assigned...
I mistook it for a crossbow at first as well; but it really is a maceman with its backside turned to the swordsman. "I fart in your general direction."
AP can only declare a holy war against a civ that does not have the AP religion. If the AP religion is not Buddhism, it might be a holy war, but then other civs would declare at the same time.
