Option Z:
Downlaod Alcohol 120% and create a virtual disk drive then load the Civ3 CD content to this. I'm almost certain this doesn't violate the EULA because you are simply backing up your data and already own the game.
You no longer need the CD to play the game. =)
I had a similar situation years ago with my mom's boyfriend and Ultima Online. Ultimately it all comes down to control. Parents sometimes feel the need to control their kids and this is especially true in regards to things like video games because they often don't understand them and feel them...
Its like a completely different game. I don't use it because it changes the whole nature of the game and I think it takes more skill to micromanage without it.
I was really confused when I first started. Basically I didn't have a clue for quit awhile until I came online and learned what it was I should be doing. Then I was hooked. =)
I have a 3.2 ghz P4 and 2 gigs of Ram. The computer can play the huge maps fine but I see no point... that would just take forever to actually play out with that many civs.
If you want to upgrade get a AMD 64 over an Intel. =)
You actually aren't doing too bad. The island isn't actually set up very good. I don't like the lack of bonus resources for food at all. Plus lots of tundra and desert..
You are very far behind the AI. You have 4 cities at 1400 BC which is not good at all. Very early in the game I just plop cities like so:
C x x C
This way all cities will have 8+ workable tiles. This is more than enough until way later in the game when the population reaches 12 or higher...
Unless the city has a wonder or a good location (which usually isn't the case) I'll raze it for workers and replant some loyal cities in the most useful locations. I hate flips they are highly annoying and I'm willing to take a rep hit usually.
If I'm blizting through a whole continent...
I'd fit probably 50-70% more cities on that island. I build like this:
CxxC wheverever possible, but never closer.
I usually build libraries, maybe temples, courthouses
I think its coincidence. But good play by the AI. =)
off topic:
This is a really fun campaign. When I played it I settled all the area between Macedonia/Russia/Germany and used it to pump out troops. I like how Carthage tends to send troops up through Europe/Gaul into northern Italy just...
