    K-Mod: Far Beyond the Sword

If you ever manage to do it, please post here! It would cause me to dust off my copy of Civ IV and lose countless hours of my life again.

    Gave Civ 5 another shot.

A broken AI couldn't function at all. The AI is bad, but not broken.

    Gave Civ 5 another shot.

You can argue whether or not the idea that an AI can deceive you is bad design or not, but that's besides the point. Sometimes, an AI will specifically pretend to like you, and set their status to "Friendly" while they still secretly hate you. You can tell they're doing this when previous...

    That's an interesting plane

That's a good idea. Then when a player is denounced for X, civs which don't care about X can essentially ignore the denouncement.

    Diplo AI and map size

Well, it seems to be much more of a big deal in Civ V than in Civ IV. I thought maybe this was one of the reasons people think diplomacy in Civ V is so borked - maybe it's not AS bad playing with civs more spread out.

    Diplo AI and map size

I'm wondering what the community's thoughts are specifically in relation to diplomacy AI and map size. I think that if you're like me, and want to play a game packed with civs and city-states on a smaller than recommended map size, you'll end up with lots of aggressive AIs and near-universal...

    Why does everyone hate me?

Yeah, stuff like this is very annoying. The diplo AI is already harsh, and it's not fun being punished for things out of your control.

    Civilization 5 Rants Thread

The AI does make some stupid moves with siege weapons and archers, but I've also seen them position them smartly behind infantry. When the "gather for an attack" AI functions, it's usually a coherent marching army. Sometimes, that AI block just doesn't seem to fire, and single units will wander...

AI hiding their intentions in Diplo

The bad part of the AI deception is that it gets annoying after many times. Deceptive AIs always pretend to be "Friendly" status, and there's usually several AIs like this in the game. This means that 2 or 3 civs you had always been friendly with can suddenly backstab you - and to many players...

new patch is on its way: 1.0.1.275, released April, 28th

In my game, I spent about 25-30 turns driving the barbarians off my capitol, and then campaigning against them to destroy their camp (on raging barbs). I don't know if anything changed in the patch, but for whatever reason I had a really fun and challenging time combating the barbarian menace.

new patch is on its way: 1.0.1.275, released April, 28th

The people who make DLC (artists for leaderheads and UUs) are not the people who write code for patches/games.

    Tactical Map

Having a separate tactical map is a bad idea. It would compound the player's advantage since the AI would likely be much worse than a vet human. It would also be tedious to fight every single battle, and nobody would autoresolve because they'd take more losses that way.

What Would Gandhi Do? - AI Rebalancing Mod

They do compliment you, on economy, military, and science at least. Just probably not at the high levels where they get so many bonuses. That's been in since 1.0 too.

    City state setteling

I looked in the civilizations xml file, but I couldn't find the entry for denying CS settlers. Any guesses?
  15. B

Yes, you CAN play a peaceful game (usually), even at Emperor difficulty

Keep in mind, if they program an AI to NEVER invade you, it can be exploited. As in, "Ooh, I lucked out: Gandhi's my neighbor. I'll never build any military and still be safe - stupid AI!" Of course, having Gandhi backstab you after being friends all game is a different matter.

    City state setteling

Yeah, my idea would be making a special settler unit only available to city-states, but having the cost doubled or tripled to prevent them from building too many. Also, as Erik said, is there any way to get barbarians to have cities? I'm guessing that would only be possible once we have the...

    City state setteling

Will the city states also need to have city names defined? Is it intuitive enough to figure out how to define the names?

On Nomads, City States, and Empires

If you have Civ IV, you should try the Revolutions mod. This exact behavior is modeled (Barbarian cities can settle into Minor Civilizations, which can then expand to full civilizations if they accomplish something noteworthy), and it's one of the things that makes the game really fun for me...

    PlayWithMe

Have you ever thought about limiting army size by limiting the number of units that can be built? Say, 2 units for each city you own, an extra unit if a city has a barracks, and 2 or 3 extras come with the palace? As for upgrades, I'm not a fan of taking them out but I see your reasons. Why not...
