I use the Jags as tough scouts. Pump a few of them out and have them go exploring. You can get a ton of those goody huts with them. Also cover a lot of territory quickly.

It may not matter. If the Island is "100%" occupied..you will not be able to build the city within his Zone of Control. It isn't Possible. You, obviously, want to take the island. So Take it.:)

Yeah..the AI can be goofy at times. Once the Persians actually built roads for me. Hooked me up to dyes..pretty nice of them. It didn't take them to long for them to figure it out..but it was kinda funny to watch them.

The only deterrent truly is a huge military. I find it if I keep Military production going..the AI rarely attacks me.

The only thing I do that is nasty (except early genocide) is raze big cities to cut their AI's production/culture down. I am usually at a point where I don't want to defend the city..just knock them down a peg. That being said..I only do this if THEY start the war. Serves them right. Other...

I sometimes sign MPPs if the civ that is offering is way ahead of me. Just so they won't come after me..more than likely. SOmetimes..you can use them to play catchup.:)

Moving your Palace is good if you are playing to conquer/dominate. If I am just being peaceful..I don;t bother..other times it is just worth it...like the two continent/island scenario.
