TerraForm -- a map editor for CIV dos

So, I mainly use map editors because I'm somewhat of an AI enthusiast. I very much enjoy watching the AI duke it out, and seeing what sort of strategies they use. using TerraForm, I normally landscape everyone onto individual islands, or i'll give everyone their own section and web them together...

need help defeating an easy opponent

Best hints I can think of, keeping in mind that you're playing at chieftan level: #1: First turn in the game, change your tax rate to 100% science, 0 tax, 0 luxuries. Later in the game, when you have improvements sucking down your treasury, you'll be able to raise your taxes without hurting...

It's punishment for not micro-managing... At least, thats how I see it. ;)

Is there anything you can do to help get that 2nd settler at the beginning?

Okay, just did a quick test on some of the thoughts mentioned here. Started as Russians with following settings: Chieftan, Large, Temperate, Normal, 5 billion years. Chose the Russians. Started with only irrigation, mining, roads, and 50 shields, and one settler. :( My starting location wasn't...

TerraForm -- a map editor for CIV dos

Unfortunately, I can't install it to work computer because the installer wants access to system folders :( I wanted to try out the new version.

    Special resources are weird

That seems to be the case. I played several different games, many displayed strange patterns of special resources, but only when using CivMap. Running an unpatched and non-CivMap version doesn't cause this. But it IS lots of fun when you can find a spot like this where the special resources are...

    Special resources are weird

Just found some more, what a crazy map.

    Special resources are weird

So I was playing a game and decided to cheat and see what the map looks like. I was scrolling around it when I discovered this: Wow. I think I found the sacred fishing grounds... :)

    CIVMAP21 revisited

It doesn't seem to remember everything if I save and re-load. Special resources (deer, oasis, oil, etc.) disappear when I reload if they're ones I've created using CivMap.

TerraForm -- a map editor for CIV dos

Fascinating stuff. I'm trying to go through and crack the map files for Civ in an attempt to try creating another map editor. Some of the functions I'm looking to specifically implement revolve more around terrain editing, like features that allow you to add 4x4 blocks of certain terrain, and so...

TerraForm -- a map editor for CIV dos

Are you willing to say what language you used to code TerraForm? The reason I ask is at work I use a computer that's fairly locked down, and outside of common "office work" programs, I can't run executable files. Through a stroke of luck, I have an exception for DosBox, so I can run my Civ 1...

    Barbarian Isle

I love letting Barbarians have their own little island. I'd frequently find a Civ on a small(ish) island and capture their biggest city, and raze the rest, then leave it defenseless so a barb would take it. It was always fun to me to see the AI of the barbs in action, even though it's MO seems...

    Tribe names

I ran some tests since I have two Dos versions, 474.04 and 474.01. Did it three times on both, selected earth, chieftain, 7 civs, and hit escape while Americans were highlighted, and on .04, I got Americans, Germans, and Greeks, in that order. In .01, I got Romans, Babylonians, and Egyptians, in...

TerraForm -- a map editor for CIV dos

Hey Dack, my copy of TerraForm became unregistered, is it somehow connected to you updating? Either way, I'll just wait for the next before a new key request. Thanks for all the work you do on the program, I love it.

    Trading

In Civ IV, I remember when I needed to bribe a Civ, I'd give them an extra luxury resource while asking a pittance in return (1 GPT or something silly). I know this seemed, unless I remember wrong, to give me a higher bonus vs a trade that was balanced.

TerraForm -- a map editor for CIV dos

Do the terrain bonus tiles such as the deer, fish, oasis, etc., have to be randomly seeded? I love using TerraForm, and if I could have one request, it would be to be able to manually set bonus locations.

Ai blatantly cheat on Prince difficulty?????

I think the reason the AI has such a good GPT output is because, at least in my experience, they seem to spam trading posts on everything they own.

    Prince Ghandi playthrough (game #1)

Good read. Next time, play Ghandi again and go for a domination victory :)

Why does this game punishes expansionism so much?

Make sure your trade networks are connecting all your cities as well. I was having a terrible time with unhappiness until I realized my city with the most luxury resources wasn't connected to anyone else... It's worth it, too, to clear out the barb camps for some gold when you can, and use it...
