Just a couple of game mechanics points:
I believe in the latest patch that "failure cash" was amended to be 1 gold per actual hammer used to build the wonder, not hammers completed towards the wonder. In other words, having the production multiplier or being Industrious does not yield a...
A couple of things to consider from this lurker's perspective:
If you're going to change leaders, why not Lincoln (Phi/Cha)? He tends to be my choice when I'm playing OCC-conquest. An extra 2 early happy is very useful (and allows you to delay the GA-spawning Globe) and it doesn't take much...
Well ... Rifles are +25% vs. Mounted, so the MG may be the first defender anyway. More likely than not while on defensive terrain.
Can you still build Grens? I had mentioned this earlier in the thread, but Grens can take a lot of useful promotions and then be upgraded to MGs to work around...
I've shadowed this game unsuccessfully, and can say you are a little ahead of where I was at this point in time. I know my strategy didn't work (I could almost assuredly avoid losing, but I couldn't win), and if I played it all over again I'm not at all sure what would be a successful strategy...
When you (or, I guess all of the AI) research Alphabet, you will see the techs they have that you don't and what they can research. All you'll have to do see when it is possible for someone else to research Liberalism.
You have to do a little math to figure out what you have that others don't...
Heh. I figure you want the Pyramids before the Monument, starting the Pyramids the turn you discover Masonry. But the tech pace may allow for a Monument first. It's not like you'll have anything better to do with the hammers.
OR is less useful for an Industrious civ, you only net a 1/6th bonus when building Wonders (175% vs. 150%). So taking CD's numbers it would save ~6 turns of 50.
Production actually isn't too bad despite the dearth of Hills. Plains Horses (4H) + 2 x Grass Hill (6H) + Silver Hill (2H) +...
Haven't looked at the save, but ... The joke might have been the oil (invisible in the first location) that has been world-built onto the island ... and likely on land given the grousing that came in the last game when whoever added the oil put it off-shore.
Even if you don't leave any...
Isn't the Espionage slider available from turn 0? ;)
Yeah, I know. Only the AI is dumb enough to run an espionage tax in the early game ...
edit: Actually, it's available from the first turn you meet another player. Mea Culpa. :hammer2:
Not necessarily. Since nothing can be upgraded to a Musket/Oromo, you would still have a large advantage over the rest of Zara's troops. If he doesn't have Gunpowder for long, he won't be able to build many Oromos and you can still make some hay.
Since you would be catching either civ with...
Re-name your Custom Assets folder (generally under c:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's ... ) to something like Custom Assets.bug
All of the BUG content is contained in that folder. When Civ4 starts after the re-name, it will generate a new Custom Assets...
I have no idea what Legal(?) civic we're in but Caste + Free Speech + Mercantilism + Sistine = 1 turn border pop in new cities with a forced artist (+1 free one). So I wouldn't bother accepting Justinian's capitulation, just build some settlers and we'll back-fill his lands to reach the...
LoTR 24
Should be a fairly boring round. Locate the oil, build a Well. Raze the AP city. Just business as usual.
1730 AD (1)
Make a few trades to bring in an extra 35 gpt and some extra resources. Only sent out Health and Stone, so nobody is really gonna benefit besides us. :)
1732...
I got it.
The problem with the AP is that we can't defy a diplo victory and once we have a city with Buddhism the diplo victory becomes possible. I have no trust in how the AP obsoletes with the UN as I've had games where we're voting in both at the same time.
Destroyers will be a little...
Heh. If we want to wait for Panzers we should be able to get Panzer vs. Redcoat with Justinian and minions. With the level of promotions we'll have, that means "siege optional" for inland cities and boat bombing along the coast to get things started. That really speeds things up. ;)
