I've read all this before, and I do not suffer the same problems. I truly believe, (although I get really hacked off when a tank loses to a pikeman) that the whole process is generalized, that's the point maybe of having an army before attacking. I used to have the same annoyance but I realised...
I'd say random is random.. I always play a random civ.. and yes I love it when I get babylon. I get it about as often as randomness would dictate this should happen... I honestly think the random civ thing is just a random choice on your computers part.
As a computer programmer I could argue...
if winning is the key, and it doesn't matter *how* you win.. I'd say Babylon is the easiest by far.
Cultural or histographic (score based) victories are still fairly easy even on harder levels with this civ.
I believe the attack/defense values of fighters determine the outcome of an "air superioty" battle when a fighter bombs a city and is intercepted.. the "hit points" of the fighter go down sometimes even when victorious, just like any other battle.
The stealth compenent with an aircraft simply...
I've seen the AI use jet fighters extensively, when I was bombing at about 170 bombing runs a turn, after several turns they would take out 5-6 a turn, after 20 turns they were averaging about 7-8 a turn obviously bringing reinforcements and building more.
Jet fighters *do* have a use in...
hrmm yeah.. I was really annoyed when I wrote that.. :) but seriously it was completely spoiling an otherwide enthralling game. I reloaded that game and asked for an RoP, which they willingly accepted at 11 gpt... so you were spot on, that was the problem.
I've played Civ since it's first incarnation... I've been a lurker in this thread since page 1 too!
In all my years, this has been one of the most epic games I've seen described. Terrific turnaround.. congratulations, zerksees, I think you've inspired a few of us to increase our potential.
I've seen the same thing.. if I have an army of mech inf and they only have tanks, and I am fortified on a hill next to their capital.. they just don't touch it.. you can run around pillaging whatever you want!
I had exactly the same problem... I loved Civ II, and I put off really giving Civ III a go because I found nothing quite worked as it used to.
I used to be a peaceful player on Civ II... I would get fussed if I didn't get the pyramids, etc, I had a set plan to each game. I would reload on a...
Otherwise I upgrade, upgrade... when a unit becomes obselete and has finished it's upgrade path, I use them to simply quell resisters in catured cities... and pick off some opposition units (cavalry are great for this). I wouldn't generally disband any unit with an upgrade path (except...
Not all UU'sa are good for attacking.. when I play Aztec I stockpile a few Jaguar Warriors so I can control when my Golden Age happens, by picking off a Horseman or a Knight who has redlined damage.
ok this has to be a bug... still playing my game, babylon is not in my interests to take over right now as I have more pressuring wars to deal with.. this has hit 99 turns so I presume this is a bug.
This is on version 1.29f. I have documented proof of asking them 58 times in a row to move or declare war.. however the move each time then just come back. They have invaded my land 58 of the 59 turns I asked them to leave.
Am I nuts? sure I nitpick Civ III to bits sometimes, but I seriously believe, that for such a serious upgrade to the Civ incarnations that this *has* to stop. There was another post I was annoyed about this, but now it has got fully out of hand. And I am starting to suspect the latest Patch is...
Woops.. cut that post short. I am at my wits end now. Russia complies with my requests *every* turn, then simply reinvaded my territory. this has happened *10* turns in a row. I am OUTRAGED!!!!!!!! this is so annoyng it's reminiscent of Civ II... I just installed the 1.29f patch and I have never...
