I've decided to try a GOTM to learn about BtS since I just got back into Civilization. I picked up BOTM6 and started playing it, but like a moron, didn't save the file along the way and exited out of the game after playing 40 or so turns. I have an autosave file from the turn before I exited...
Yeah, I'm waiting too, mostly because I am unsure if I can run it on my desktop with the nice size monitor. I am also waiting because I saw all the bug-filled releases of Civ3 and have no reason to expect any better. Unlike a lot of people, I don't feel I should buy a game that has a good chance...
wow, only a 800 Mhz processor, does it run slow anywhere? I have a P3 733, lots of ram, I wonder if it would run well? Anyone out there with a slower processor?
Yeah, it would be a bummer to have those hard-coded limits. I was very sad the first time I found the city limit, and then shortly after, the game crashed because of the unit limit in Civ3. :(
Yeah, I can't get my wife into Civ3 because even a small world just takes too long for her. I'm hoping Civ4 will have fast and furious games that don't take longer than a few hours and still be fun. Then I won't have to give her my credit card to go shopping while I play Civ3 anymore. :)
Actually, they recently revamped it to play more like the computer version. http://www.boardgames.com/civilization.html if anyone is interested. I hear it takes like 5 hours to play a game, and you need to play a few before you can get some strategy down. I might it for a friend for Christmas...
Everquest and FFXI played just as well on the console as the PC. If WOW were on the console, I would certainly get it so I can use my new big TV. :)
(Oh, and I figure only 500,000 copies of vanilla)
Yeah, that definately lowers the likelihood that the game will be polished (relatively big free) when it is released. How many horror stories about PC games that are rushed out to meet some absurd publisher date have we all heard? I would seriously bet money now that the game will be bug-ridden...
What no one (in this thread at least) has mentioned is that it looks like they have pretty much already announced an expansion (or two). Multiplayer pit boss, or (more likely), the developer pack. I am assuming that these will be part of some sort of expansion pack, and not just an update...
By the way, I will be buying Civ4 because I think its a great series, I'll just wait until its a little more polished (At least a week or two) incase the gameplay turns out to be a big disappointment.
You're kidding right? Am I the only one who thinks this paragraph is dripping with sarcasm? For those of you who don't remember vanilla Civ, PTW (especially), and C3C, they were terrible initial releases of the game that took months of patches just to make it reasonable. I'm not just talking...
Anyone else notice how already Firaxis is going back on their early promises in the game? I am concerned.
1. (Minor point) The tech tree is still as stiff as before, it wasn't too long ago they said you would be able to follow a war-mongering tech path, a culture-one, etc. From what I see on...
Even if multiplayer is only 8 people, if they are going to have this persistent server, they need to have it so you can plan moves in advance without having to log on. It'll need to at least be an option (I know they have a hatred against cluttering the screne with buttons and commands)...
I have a feeling the rock/paper/scissors aspect will leave the AI hopelessly crippled and gameplay unbalanced, especially in light of their attempt to make the AI truly intelligent, and not just a cheater. I think exploits in the new system will arise much faster than even with Civ3.
From what I'm hearing, everyone is pretty much agreed there is a good chance that Civ4 will be buggy when it comes out.
Why? Because of Civ3 Vanilla and it's associated expansions.
What difference will this make? Absolutely none. The majority of Civ fans will still get excited, pre-order...
One of the things I really like about C3C is that there really are very rare cases when things are black and white. I find that I sometimes research ironclads, and sometimes I don't. I typically play pangea maps on emperor or higher, and I have found in C3C v1.22 the AI typically skips over...
I have stolen probably upwards of 20 or so techs in the industrial and modern age using democracy, and if I do them "safely" I have never failed yet. I was using diplomats to do it too.
