This makes me wonder if my old mod, Goldfladh's Altered Tech Tree Mod, still lives out there somewhere. Probably not. It wasn't very good and I had no idea what I was doing and I don't think anybody ever played it, but it was there.

I would say start with up to the time of the Norman Conquest, and then do 1492 as an expansion. Focus on the core of the mod first, and make it solid. That way the people who don't want to do...
I too agree that the game needs more units. Units are fun.
Unfortunately, they're very hard to create, seeing as you have to make a model and rig animations. It take time and specialized skills. Not to mention that we don't have actual modding tools yet.

During 2012 the Marines came to Ceveland and launched an amphibious assault from Lake Erie to "capture" Burke Lakefront Airport. It was only one LCAV and a few Amtracks, but it was still amazing to watch! And they had ample air support, too.
Units are awesome.
