I spent over $100 getting Civ 4 completed by the expansions. I'm not going to do that again, and it's clear this is even more unfinished than Civ 4 was at release. I've been fooled twice now. I'm not paid to beta-test or design 2K's games.
I will find more interesting ways to spend my...
Installed Civ IV and BTS flawlessly. I updated via patches downloaded from CFC with no issues. I had already installed the downloadable DirectX from Microsoft prior to installing Civ.
I've been playing on my new operating system for a month without any crashes or freezes.
Try 1920 x 1080. That's your displays native resolution. The example I pasted is the text from the developers notes; it's a generic example.
ScreenHeight = 1080
ScreenWidth = 1920
Try manually setting your display's native resolution in the My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\CivilizationIV.ini file. (your path may vary) These are the lines in the file:
; Custom Screen Height, minimum: 768 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when set to 0...
Make sure you have installed 2 things:
1. The most recent drivers for your graphics chipset from Acer or SiS.
2. The most recent DirectX at Microsoft's site, even though you're sporting DirectX 10.
Ratchet down the options for graphics to as low as they'll go in the game's Options menus. Let...
This is a driver issue that can sometimes be avoided by doing a rather aggressive driver update. I say aggressive because the nvidia fansites recommend an uninstall, a boot to safe mode, a 3rd party driver cleaner, etc., and finally the new driver install.
I saw this happen yesterday on my rig...
Mine are in \\Users\<user name>\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword. It's a CivilizationIV.ini located in the BtS folder in My Document > My Games. A backup of it is also created with a .bak extension. You can delete both to create a fresh copy and reselect your options from there.
My hidden...
Have you done a complete uninstall, reboot, reinstall? I'd try that.
I've never had that issue myself but if you google your error, it's repeated in a range of titles and all fault the games' safedisc copy protection. Why'd it'd suddenly appear after SP1 I can't say. Some "false" emulator...
It doesn't "overwrite" so much as it supplements or completes your rig's DirectX components. You are offered the option to install DX with the Civ4 and patch installs, but I think sometimes those are skipped in error.
Microsoft began updating DirectX 9.0c several years ago, pretty much every...
Are you saying you went to microsoft.com and installed the most recent DirectX? This is necessary, as Vista's native DirectX 10 is not a complete "backward compatible" solution.
