Archers - only in emergencies Longbowmen - very rarely Chariots - never ... expect the Egypt UU when I need a GA Musketmen and Riflemen** - often have them through upgrades, but unless absolutely necessary, will rarely build them. Never research the Riflemen tech until I trade for it...

    What level are people playing???

I'm a deity man myself. I've played this level so often now, that i just can't get my mind around the mathematics of the other levels (warriors per city to maintain order etc). It's probably easier to stick to one level at a time. I haven't played a lot recently, but I beat it plenty of...

Maybe in the intervening period, Spanish historians will be able to dig up a Newton or a Darwin or an Adam Smith ... :D ... or at least someone of significance would didn't wield a bloody sword.

    Christ ... you'd think I have something against Spain ... which I don't.

    What is the best civ?

This was not in response to you pal. This is an old thread going back over a year. You started the argument by refering to me, I never referred to you. You mentioned painters specifically, not me. And as with all painters, we get the normal reduction of art to painting, as if there's never been...

    What is the best civ?

The argument is all before pal ... Spain cannot compete. I'm sorry if that somehow hurts your ego. But it's a plain fact. The effects of the British Empire (for good or ill) still reverberate today ... and in more than just a few place names and Spanish speaking countries. Spain merely ruled...

Don't be ridiculous, he was Greek. Just because he lived and worked in Spain doesn't make him Spanish ... that's called clutching at straws. You brought it up first ... in your very first response. Yes. Spain can't compete with China, Greece, Rome and Britain. Bottom line.

    What is the best civ?

I never said Britain were as prominant as France or Italy. But you said that there was not a single prominant painter who came from Britain, which from a "semi-pro painter", is quite a startling over-sight. I understand your prejudices, and your desire to talk up your own history. But this...

    What is the best civ?

Shows how much you know. Constable and Turner (as well as that whole generation of British painters) changed the face of art. The FRench basically copied everything from them. Their naturalistic style came to dominate, and was the major factor in the shift away from the French romanticism of the...

    What is the best civ?

Well Constable and Turner for a start. They fit right in the middle of the historical period in question. I could write about achievements in literature, poetry, science, technology, industry, music, politics, philosophy, warfare ... but they're so well documented, I don't want to waste my time...

    What is the best civ?

I think the timescale says very little. If you draw a graph of historical progress, and chart science, culture, military achievement, power, lasting influence, you'll find that graph takes a steep climb with the beginning of the British Empire. The industrial revolution is probably the single...

    What is the best civ?

Yeah ... this thread has been dredged up from the grave. Still stick to my original belief that it's the Greeks, the British and the Chinese. All European culture (even stretching to modern day USA) come from the Greeks. The British had an Empire (miltitary, commercial, scientic cultural) that...

Ra Mesh Strategy Guide: Conquering Abroad

Ultimately ... I think the best way to wage warfare is to wait for opportunites to arise then take advantage of your opponents. Always look to attack the strongest nation by forming alliances with other smaller nations. Then you can attack from more than one side. Take out the major centres of...
