Try forceware 71.89 before you give up on Civ!

Rolling back helped me as well. Still issues every now and then but I think they may be due to other matters now.

    dual monitor

I have a dual monitor setup too. I don't know of any way to constrain the mouse. I find the game is somewhat better behaved when I simply disable the extra monitor and just use one for playing. If you move the mouse over to the edge of the screen without crossing in to the other monitor...

My GeForce FX 5200 will not play Civ 4!

Dropped my FX 5200 like a bad habit for a 6600GT. Game went from molasses to 'holy crap, that's faster than CivII on a Dual Athlon 64'. When it runs. It still crashes every five or so minutes. Not due to graphics card issues anymore though.

    Future-era forest/irrigation "Biopods"

Wait, you replaced forests alltogether or you added a new terrain/improvement? How did you do that? I have been trying to figure out how to do that for a mod for months now and nobody seems to know.

Good News for the Future of Civ!

Models for the new game would almost certainly be polygon-reduced, with no NURBs or subdivision surfaces. It wouldn't be the same models that you are using to render right now. Which is why I hope they have an generic .obj/whatever import editor, so that things that get messed up in import...

Request help and suggestions with my scenario!

Justinian and Justin I are best known for codifying law in the modern sense. Narsus and Flavius Belisarius should be some great leaders. It was about that time that the modern Vatican was being built by the Goths. Belisarius is sometimes credited with the first military use of pontoon...

Good News for the Future of Civ!

I havn't used poser in about 8 years. Does it do polygon decimation and export animation now? (edit -- I just looked it up, poser has .obj export now, probably has for some time, so there ya go) There is huge amount of overhead involved in just importing 3d models; scaling, textures, polygon...

Good News for the Future of Civ!

Well, if they made 3d terrain and billboarded units that only simulated 3d, that could work out well. You would have the relative ease of 2d unit creation in a 3d game. If they made the units all 3d like RoN, then you will probably need a professional animation package, or to brave to the...

Good News for the Future of Civ!

Hear hear, I want the 3d scaling but an improved AI and relatively streamlined and stable network code would be all I ever needed.

Good News for the Future of Civ!

Where do you get that from? The article doesn't say word one about backward compatibility. Only ease of use of the new system...

Any world map generator help available?

A cursory search turned up these two threads, there seems to be some ideas: http://www.idevgames.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-5136.html http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=562379&messageID=2769190 The image to map utilities...

Any world map generator help available?

If by shortcuts you mean an existing CivIII 'random' map generator that you can look at, then no, I don't know of any. The only map utilities I have seen are for converting maps from images.

    Great Generals of History needed!

Flavius Belisarius for swordsmen. He was the general of several expeditions sent by Emperor Justin I to the west to try to resurrect the western Roman Empire. He also outmanuvered and defeated Persian forces in the fertile crescent repeatedly. He was probably the finest foot infantry commander...

Any world map generator help available?

For my civ-clone I have decided to avoid fractals for anything involved with generating the overall form and climates of the world. Why? because they have little to do with that. I will use fractals extensively for things like detailing coastlines, mountain ranges, or forest distribution, but...

    Nuclear Artillery

Well, film or book, then the solution is likely all the same, make a nuclear grenade unit not unlike a cruise missile, and give the Mobile Infantry transport slots to carry it. In the book there was another alien faction, the skinnys, who Johnny and his unit hit in the first chaper as a...

    Nuclear Artillery

That's not true at all. The 175mm and 208mm Tubes could lob the nuclear shells the better part of 20 miles, and the fallout would make any counterbattery radar useless upon detonation. There is no reason that popping a tactical nuke would mean the battery was immediately destroyed. It...

    Custom terrain improvements

Then this really isn't going to work at all. I can't find a way to make 'pollution' benefit a civ, and only one civ, so I either wait for CivIV for this idea or get back to work on my Civ Clone. :D Thanks for all the input.

    Custom terrain improvements

Well, that would work, if it does work - I would be all over doing something like eliminating the annoying and mostly useless 'build radar tower' slot to replace it with an alternate form of irrigation; is that doable? I was already planning on giving the aliens a single tech track of their...

    Custom terrain improvements

I was considering that strongly, and it might work, but there are two problems; one is spreading the new kind of pollution (maybe there is a way to make a unit creat pollution? I havn't seen one) and setting it so that "infestation areas" benefit the Chtorran 'civ' and nobody else. It would work...

    Custom terrain improvements

I'm investigating the possibility of making a "War against the Chtorr" mod, and one thing I need to do is provide a way that the Chtorran infestation changes the countryside into something that only it can use. The best way to do this would seem to be to use customized terrain improvements, but...
