I finally broke down and upgraded the 8800GT to a GTX 460. What a difference! It idles around 30.C and gets up to around 58.C under load. Love it!

I just did a thorough clean on my system two weeks ago when I put in my new CPU, so I don't think it's a dirty or cluttered case issue. In the reading that I've been doing it does seem like the 8800 family is prone to overheating, but since 2K Games made a sticky out of the overheating issue...

Played again in DX9 mode - GPU got up to 96.C and crashed my whole system. Looks like they've got this on a sticky at the Take2 forums: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88710

I ran it on DX9 for a while and it didn't make any difference in temperature, but the graphics were absolutely terrible. Every time the camera would move I'd be presented with a gray screen and the map would gradually be put up in layers. I hope this gets fixed fast because I want to play more!

Literally. I've never seen the temps on my CPU and GPU go this high. Q9550 gets up to 60.C 8800 GT gets up to 80.C Anyone else having this problem? I'm falling in love with this game, but might have to go back to IV for a while until this gets patched so I don't fry my machine...

Agreed. GFX need improvement, but game is fun so far!

Scholarship America has (IMHO) the best looking stats on Charity Navigator, so that's who I'm going to pick. Couldn't even find Building Schools for Africa in their database.

Where does one find benchmarks for specific games? I know Tom's Hardware, but don't they tend to just do benchmarks on FPS kinda games? And do they do a best card for a certain game and CPU chart?
