    New and not ;-)

My spies tell me that in Civ V the pyramids will allow player who builds them to see either (for male leaders) shaven portraits or unshaven ones -- thanks to the mystical power of the pyramids to keep razor blades sharp forever! Okay, so whenever any form of "pyramid power" has been tested it...

    Help - Spies!

@auldian: Ah, I need a shovel to dig my poor manual out from under all the programming books and magazines and, quite possibly, moldering proto-mammalian skeletons... Would you be kind and spare me the trouble? Are you saying that the manual confirms that military units are useful for guarding...

    Remove obsolete units

As far as I know that's not possible using the stock game. You could mod it if sufficiently motivated, but it'd be a lot of effort for so little return. If I'm wrong about this, I'll be glad to learn it. :-)

    Help - Spies!

Concerning military units on sabotage target tiles, I've seen people say one way and the other. I don't know, haven't bothered to run a test on it. I've certainly never dissuaded a spy using military units, and rarely caught one using my own spy. P.S.: Vixens are okay, but skunkettes are...

A modifier "you broke the balance of power" could help AI to become a better rival

A couple decades ago there was an illustrated text adventure based on Roger Zelazny's "Nine Princes in Amber" and related stories. You were one of the nine "princes," and had to deal with your eight brothers and sisters. To win (which I never did) you had to be powerful enough... but not so...

    Help - Spies!

Putting a spy of your own on the mine gives you a chance (or increases a standard very low chance? I'm not sure) of detecting a saboteur. But it's never a sure thing. In my games the enemy spies succeed most of the time even so. AFAIK military units do absolutely no good against spies... though...

There are so many -- mostly easier -- ways to get smileys already. I'm comfortable with the pyramids as they are now, though I preferred the Civ III version (rationale or not).

    why hatty and not cleopatra??

Yuppers, that's about the size of it. Cleo was in Civ III though.

mtu: Oh, I'm glad that wasn't in one of my games.

    Is this thread set to Epic or Marathon? :-}

    Civ 4 Story Help

Another vote for OpenOffice.org -- it's an excellent suite of software, powerful and professional. (And I contributed money toward its creation. =^_^=)

    How to Rotate the view?

I use Ctrl-arrow keys as Ozzy describes. For the full fly-around mode you'll want to search for "flying camera" mode in the forum. I don't know how, my cheap graphics chipset would wilt under the strain.

And now comes another thread in which the poster was given Democracy as a gift. =@.@=

    New and not ;-)

Civ IV uses history as a rough outline, but it DOES NOT "make a copy of history." If it did, every game would be exactly the same. But as a thought experiment, to be authentic, what would you suggest should be the effect of the pyramids, in Civ IV terms?
  15. Meffy

    New and not ;-)

Far as I'm able to tell there's no rationale for this one, it's arbitrary. Some of the other wonders' effects make perfectly good sense but the pyramids just get a bonus "'cos they deserve one." :-)

Wow -- useless or not, that is nice. Did you celebrate with a couple of cigars from his headgear? :-)
  17. Meffy

    New and not ;-)

That might apply if pyramids were hollow storage vessels, but they're nothing like that. They seem to be almost solid stone, with verrrry narrow passages leading to comparatively tiny burial chambers. :-} Why do the pyramids have a given effect in this game? For the same reason passing "GO"...

    RNG Getting Confused

Okay, long as you do understand that asking someone else will just provide an additional anecdote. Anyone sufficiently motivated (I'm not) could perform definitive tests using the SDK. I suspect the devs already tested the RNG but might be wrong. In any case, I've seen just the sort of runs I'd...

    ugliest leader

No contest. It's gotta be Isabel. I dedicate this little song to her: "What's the ugliest part of your body? What's the ugliest part of your body? Some say your nose, Some say your toes, But I think it's your mind..." -- Frank Zappa

    Inflation - what is it?

Think of inflation as a nagging mother, always saying "Shouldn't you have conquered Russia and the Aztecs by now, found a nice mate, settled down and started raising some grandchildren?" And saying it more the longer the game goes on. ;-)
