Gary's Poser Unit Creation Thread and Workshop

Gary, great job on your first unit! Also, the paratrooper is looking good. Here's a few suggestions: - Try to fatten up his gun a bit. You should be able to make it taller and thicker (z and y scale) without making it longer. - I used that same parachute for my first paradrop. It looks...

    Gary's Poser Practice Question Thread

Gary, he's looking really good, I'm sure the finished unit will be well received. To make M3 shorter, play around with increasing the Yscale of the main camera. A few test renders will allow you to get something close to PDM, although it won't be as stocky as him because the two figures are...

    Poser Prop Compatibility

I downloaded the free M3 a while ago (maybe a year or more). That conversion figure should hopefully be in there.:)

If I want a unit with 200*200 setup, how to set the camera?

I made a template for a 240x240 sized frame here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=191725 Follow Plotinus' advice to make them for other frame sizes. The key is to compare the renders of PDM (or another figure) in your paint program to make sure the figures are the same size.

magenta pixels screw up my unit, but only in flicster

If it always happens in the same location, in the same frame, in the same direction, then I believe it is the missing pixel problem. Even if your palette was bad, why would the civ-blue pixels be replaced by magenta?

    Poser Prop Compatibility

Gary, I'm telling you, you can use M1 & 2 clothes on M3. Don't waste the money on old figures.

magenta pixels screw up my unit, but only in flicster

Ruby, take a look at this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=234264 It should explain what's happening, as well as how to fix it. It's a glitch with Flicster, your palette looks like it should be OK. If you want to see how the green "food" pixels can be applied, look at...

    Modern Infantry Collection

Are you talking about the tutorial by Utahjazz? I strongly recommend following this step by step for your first unit. @ SoG, sorry, my to-do list is too long right now to add anything new.

    Poser Prop Compatibility

Actually, there is a figure in the Michael 3 download named "Mike 3 to Mike 2" which handles M2 and even some M1 figures well. For example, my WWII paratrooper was made with the US paratrooper clothing located here with this M3 figure. A good rule of thumb when using clothing (for any...

I certainly do have a sizeable library of clothing, etc... for M3. He also has more body parts (especially in the arms, like his collars), which makes it easier for me to animate a wider range of motions. Overall, it's just a preference thing, although I do like PDM.

    Modern Infantry Collection

All the units in this thread have been made with Michael 3. I have also used the Paperdoll, Apollo, and Poser people for other units. Different figures have their strengths and weaknesses. I suggest you start with making a few Paperdoll units, and branch out from there, if you want. Good...

    Modern Infantry Collection

I know the Russian infantry is more of a Cold War unit than a "today" unit. I guess modern is a relative term, considering that Civ III is an epic game. I do plan on making another Russian in the future, whcih will have a more modern flavor.

Law and Order Pack - 3/10/2008

Thanks for all of the comments. Hopefully the car and boat can be used, in spite of the size. It was hard, actually. It's funny how little everyday things (like getting in and out of a car) can be hard to animate.

    Space Opera

@ Redwall, Godd catch, I'll make it so that there is not tech required for entertainers. @ thievingliar, I have not personally made any alternate maps. Perhaps you'd like to give one a shot? The next version will be for C3C.

Law and Order Pack - 3/10/2008

Here's a collection of modern day police units. Note on scaling: I know the car and boat are larger than normal. I did not want to make them any smaller because the human figures would look silly if they're tiny. Also, I made these for an urban scenario that I'm working on, and the scale was...
