It is sometimes hard for people to adjust to new systems such as the promotion system. Try using the anti mounted promotion and you will be surprised how even non spearmen can defeat mounted units.

Your kidding right? It's a mobile airbase that allows you to take fighters across the ocean to attack your enemy. You can use it to flank your enemy and destroy resources that your main force can't get to yet. Cities are easier to conquer when the defending forces are already damaged.
