G&K makes some resources more powerful than others, and that should change...

This, without question. Added bonus: easier to code AI prioritization of resource acquisition based on their "personalities".

    New Resources?

And iron producing sites have extra hammers which gives you extra production...which in turn simulates the fact you have easier access to a freely available resource (both in reality and in the game). After all which resource is harder to get hold of...right now....iron/steel or uranium ...

    New Resources?

Steel uses iron as its base, it is a refinement not a resource. Is it simplified ? Yes, but would you really want to have to use iron, coal and oil (ignoring the resources not currently in the game) to produce all units beyond the ancient era ? It is, imho, a good way of simulating the...

    New Resources?

As has been mentioned for previous versions, resources go "obsolete" once you reach the technology level at which it is deemed to have been (relatively) easy to obtain in historical terms. Iron becomes less relevant.

Can't keep up with DLC, annoyed by it.

The DLC annoying ? Interesting premise. DLC has become the prevalent method of maintaining revenue stream, when combined with an active patch cycle it is certainly acceptable. Currently Civ 5 has an active patch cycle, indicating that the DLC method is functioning as it should. Ultimately...

For the concept. Against the implementation. I abstain.

Whom would you like to see as lead designer of civ 6: edited to add sulla to list

Did it ever occur that he designs according to the requirement given ? In which case the games you despise (I do as well incidentally..plus I don't understand the obsession with virtual scrap-booking. Yup that's what Facebook is) are proof of the mans ability to hit the target in game design...

What we can learn from New Vegas and Civ V?

Civ V, issues ? Yea some, many that are, however, opinion based. New Vegas issues ? Yea some..for some. But it's Fallout so who cares ? We'll fix it with Science!. Seriously the problems with NV are/were minor and mostly gone with the initial patches on PC.

CIV 5 the worst letdown in PC gaming, ever.

QFT. Been "electronic" gaming for over 30 years now. Somehow I don't think I'd play River Raid with the same intensity as I did then. Heh, floppy drives damned new fangled tech. Give me audio microcassettes. Civ V is however far from the worst letdown in PC Gaming. Not even top 20...

A theory on why ciV has been so divisive to the community.

Personal opinion: It is not really the game that has caused the backlash. Not its style or substance. I find more and more on the release of any game that it is community that has changed. It seems almost obligatory to slash and burn any new title on its relevant fansites (even moreso on...

Poll: Which Civ-style TBS game has the best unit and combat system?

Not exactly civ style.....but Age of Wonders series was quite....elegant.

Why Steam is bad for you

Nobody forced anything on you. It's a choice. Want to play the latest PC games ? you have three choices : Draconian DRM of the Ubisoft variety, Steam registration and light DRM or the Impulse no DRM,but must register to get patches, variety. What do they all have in common now ? A net...

Who else agrees that Civ 5 has been dumbed down?

Different ? most certainly. Dumber ? No, not all all. Different decision process at higher levels. More tightly focused warfare. Greater complexity in governmental style. You actually get a better feel of "Guns or Butter" than in any previous incarnation. I have high hopes that by the...

How to you manage a large invasion force across the ocean?

Large invasion force ? Not always needed. Napoleon learned to fear the English in my current game as I swept in with Ships of the Line to clear his land units. Established a beachhead. kept him at bay with bombardment. THEN moved in the main force. There is always more than one way to...

Civ 5: Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?

    Huge map and marathon play

key phrase here "is going to be". Until you try you won't know. Embarkation does change the equation. Plus no city is truly unguarded anymore. Hello bombardment........ Incidentally with the way units are handled now...taking cities on other landmasses is no longer a cakewalk either. The...

    Huge map and marathon play

Huge, Marathon, King,Archipelago, English. I have found pushing forward that maintaining happiness and culture are key in my game. Golden Ages combined with Liberty "tree" have enabled me to spread out reasonably fast to establish my powerbase. Never let happiness fall below zero. Key techs...

    Modding Tools located

Good. The water (ocean) is fantastic the terrain is reasonable (if somewhat stylized and static) but the rivers are horrible. Truthfully, I'm curious where all the graphical oomph! went, as the overhead is high, the return is 'meh'.
