I'm a graphics whore so after playing MTWII, I couldn't go back. Plus I don't like either of the games vanilla.... prefer to play with mods drastically changing the gameplay....
For Rome... Europa Barbaroum and Total Realism
For MTWII... Stainless Steel
Shift+Enter is your friend.
Quick Combat is your other friend.
Fast CPU is your biggest friend.
That is all.
I usually finish a Large 12ai game in just under 4 hours >_<
Though I rarely spend much time mulling over what to do next O.o
It really really depends on your computer hardware. My 12AI Epic Speed Large Map games take 3-4 hours (note: I play with battle animations off, but that's it). I remember on my older computer, the same game would probably take 7-9 hours.
The second factor, of course, would be playstyle, namely...
Your analogy comparing Civ to a sport about essentially not playing to win makes me cringe.... as a high school varsity basketball player... So I'm not supposed to take advantage of opponent's weaknesses?
My Large/epic 11AI wins are done in 3:30 hours. Granted, I don't play with animations on. It depends on your PC really.
Again, I play epic because of the feel. Normal goes by so quickly..... 2 hours max and a normal game is done. Again, the length of one's games depend on their PC (CPU mainly).
I mainly follow Snaaty's tech order in general (I have done so even before I read his thread).
For Emperor level at least.
Depending on start techs, if start with mining go BW first, if start with agriculture/hunting go Animal Husbandry. If I go for one of these and not get copper/horses, go...
Ah, my good sir, were you not browsing the forums in the many months after the release of BTS?
Has anyone here who has posted in this thread been browsing for the last few months? If not... no wonder another of these threads popped up.
And what do you mean not Poland? Poland man!
Anyways, I...
Oh my has it been that long since the last one already? Cue the horses!
:deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse:
Anyways, my bid is for Poland, and Poland, and Poland. CyberXKhan would back me up on this one.
Alright, alright, jokes my good sirs.
But seriously, Poland.
Let's all just forget the mess that is Civ III mkay?
Every iteration it's been like this.... Civ II --> Civ III: "Civ III Sucks.... Civ II > Civ III....... RAH RAH RAH RAH Down w/ Firaxis!......... That's it, back to Civ II...."
And now ladies and gentlemen..... Civ III --> Civ IV: "Civ...
It's cpu. Though it is RAM also, but there is a breakpoint in which adding more RAM than a certain amount will not yield much, or only minimal, performance gain.
I run a e6300 @ 3.0GHZ, default is 1.83GHZ.
There is quite a noticeable difference in turn wait time between the two.
Like all gaming forums I have frequented.... CivFanatics has had its share of complaints complaints complaints. Trust me, every game forum has these, any of them! I have yet to find one that does not. You shoulda seen CivFanatics on the Civ IV launch, the Warlords launch, and the BTS launch...
To those who report that their normal speed games take quite a bit of time:
How many hours does it take you to finish a normal speed game?
Is it because of the nature of your hardware specs? Or do you just take long amounts of time taking turns?
Just because it's Wikipedia doesn't mean it's not true....
When I look up an article in Wiki I usually check and usually end up going to the sources (which are the sources for the article, if it has any; it it doesn't, then obviously the article is very weak).
Don't worry about White Elk.... he has a rant thread about each installment of Civ since Civ III if I remember correctly... it's always wah wah wah wah wah (though some are valid points). So with all this discontent and complaining, one asks, why did he buy each new installment of Civ then...
The people who prefer Civ III over Civ IV is a very small minority.... do you know how many Civ II players got Civ III and were disappointed? Oh boy....
Civ III is arugably the worst of the series... probably the worst issues being corruption and the ways one could exploit the AI in war....
