Thanks Rayki. I'm so disappointed I can't play the game right now (it was an Xmas present), the problem being my PC is getting a little old now. Looks like I am far from alone with this sort of issue, though!
I will look into a graphics card upgrade. Thanks for your helpful recommendation...
I was just wondering what video card you bought? I'm reluctantly coming to the conclusion that I might need to do the same myself so am looking for some ideas.
Cheers!
I only updated my game a couple of days ago and for me the crop yield data graph is totally blank.
I first noticed it with a game started under the previous game version so I put it down, provisionally, to a compatibility glitch, but a subsequent new v2.08 game is exactly the same. If there...
Just a thought; is player 3 running a legit version of Civ? If he has an illegal copy or game crack then this might explain some things. In normal, single user games these files often limit players to just 10 turns per game (that's what rang a bell with me, when you said "10 turns or so"). I...
Unfortunately you have a rather serious problem here. You should make sure your wetware is loaded and fully initialised before attempting to play with a file you don't know the provenance of. It's not worth the hassle.
PS. This forum has a search function. You might like to use it.
It sounds to me like you have a superfluous modem active there. It's not needed if you have broadband so I suggest you get rid of it...
If it refers to a physical, external modem that you used to have attached to the PC then just remove it by uninstalling via System Properties > Hardware >...
If you have installed any MODS to the game then these could be causing the problem. The recommended procedure is to clear everything out before re-installing, to get a nice clean game back, free from 3rd party influences:
{Back up any saved games and/or .Civ4replay files first if you want to...
You obviously have your suspicions - have you tried reverting back to the previous drivers to see if matters improve? If they do then the new driver could be buggy, the latest drivers are not always the best. If the problem still persists with the old driver then something else must be causing...
ronnybiggs, if the game is otherwise stable then your lag problem is probably just a lack of RAM. With just 512MB on board you will have very little left over after Windows has grabbed it's share. You could look into your virtual memory settings, a tweak might help, but you would be better off...
I had a very similar system to this until a few months ago, when I completely rebuilt/upgraded my PC - I didn't have a problem with crashing but lagginess was a huge problem, especially with the first release of the game, which definitely had memory issues. The biggest problem seemed to be at...
Hehe. It's true that I don't like ale/beer/lager but I am in fact more or less teetotal these days - I must be getting old, drinking just gives me a headache. The only time I'll have a tipple is to see in the New Year... with a glass of champers, which doesn't give me a headache (that's my...
The Zalmans are good - I had a Cu Flower + fan on a Pentium 4 in my last PC and it worked a treat. You do need to give it a bit of a clean every six months or so, though, as the fins do get clogged up with dust and therefore cooling efficiency is reduced. I have an Athlon 64 X2 now with a...
I am not familiar with this particular AV suite but wondered if there was a setting somewhere to specify certain files or folders to exclude from the scanner. It will probably be in the advanced settings somewhere so have a poke around and see what you can find. Of the two or three AV programs...
I would add that careful attention to cooling (adequate fans & correct airflow through the case) and a good power supply unit will assist with system stability. The latter is often overlooked as it's a boring bit of kit but it must be beefy enough to reliably deliver good quality power to the...
Have you tried editing your CiviizationIV.ini file? There is an entry in there that reads:
;
ScreenHeight = 0
; Custom Screen Resolution, ex: 1200x1200 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when both values are set to 0
ScreenWidth = 0
Use at your own risk, of course...
Have you checked if your sound card drivers are up to date? It's a bit of a long shot but you have to look at anything and everything with some of these problems.
I'm puzzled, I can't find any .pcx files in my game folders. :confused: What's the name of it - I'll have a look at mine here if I can and see if it looks OK.
Do you have any mods installed at all?
At a pinch you could maybe just create a plain geen .pcx file yourself for free (or be...
If you're planning on getting the Warlords expansion pack I think all the patches, to date, are included. You could easily do a clean install then and hopefully fix this problem once and for all (and again in the future if it should happen again ;) ).
Just a thought anyway - I appreciate how...
Firstly, that sort of thing is not encouraged here (it would be considered a form of piracy which is against all the rules of these forums) so please do not pursue this line of enquiry here any further or you will be taken to task for it by an admin.
Secondly, the game disks have all sorts...
Have you tried a totally clean install? By that I mean removing all traces of Civ from your computer (back up any saved games and your replay files somewhere safe for the time being, if you want to keep them) - uninstall the game then manually delete Civ game folder & contents and ALL Civ...
