    Expansion v DLC

Yeah, the line between them is very blurred in these days. The delivery method is same. The expansions hardly come in disks any more. One could say that expansions are merely large DLC, and there are also medium and small DLC. Personally as a periodic and somewhat old fashioned player I still...

Has 1UPT Completely Destroyed this Franchise?

In due time. It's not in the bargain bin with all possible DLC yet.

Has 1UPT Completely Destroyed this Franchise?

Some kind of attrition system, effectiveness penalties and maintenance cost increases when stacked too high is exactly the kind of thing I suggested when reacting to 1UPT in CiV. Then there would be a few techs in the tree that increase the stack limit, better technology being able to supply...

Sigh, Another Civ that isn't Civ until the Modders fix it.

This is pretty much why I'm waiting for a year before buying. CiV taught me as much. Might actually wait for the inevitable 'complete' version bundled with expansion(s) and DLC.

Collateral damage was a better mechanic than 1UPT

Long time fans of the series that don't stop calling the idea that they perceive as bad bad even if the devs have doubled down on it. I am also one who believes that stacks with limitations would be the better way to go. Collateral damage + effectiveness penalty from being in a too large stack...

    Bring back naval transportation

I dislike the 1UPT, but getting rid of the transport unit is one change I approve. Stacks or not, that was always a layer of unnecessary micro for for a game of this scale. If we are stick with 1UPT carpeting, there is no need to make it worse.

Old timer's, what are your thoughts so far?

Started with I on Amiga. Haven't been very excited because the little info I have bothered to check seems to indicate that they are not reconciling things that were wrong in CiV. Not planning to get it on release. Will probably wait for the collection version with both expansions. Might change...

    Is Civilization forever dead?

I agree with OP. Civ4 seems to have been the pinnacle of the series. The only improvement that 5 brough to the table was hexes and that is a fairly minor thing. Everything else was worse than in 4. With 6 there was a chance to get it back to the right track but, to my complete lack of surprise...

what's the game you wish you had played?

I liked ME1 more than 2. It could at least be called an RPG with its mechanics. The Mako was decent and made the words feel like worlds, not some collections of areas. My main problem with the vehicle was that it made all of the outdoor fights trivial. I wonder who thought it a good idea to give...

Pandora First Contact, and what CIV BE can learn to do better/avoid from it.

Don't get me wrong. I think Pandora is a pretty decent game. It's just that "pretty decent" doesn't cut it. Dated looks on SMAC bother me too especially when trying to play it with modern resolution, but not so much that I'd prefer BE and Pandora over it. And shouldn't this thread go to "Other...

Pandora First Contact, and what CIV BE can learn to do better/avoid from it.

My impression of Pandora is that it has mostly good foundation in its mechanics, but the content, the "flesh around the bones" is very lacking. The tech tends to be same military or production things in 3 tiers. This also makes the otherwise interesting unit workshop blander. Victory conditions...

    Favorite Biome

By far. It's sometimes almost too good, distracting me from the game by being all dramatic.

    Expanding on Stations

Also, perhaps the Earthling settlements could act more like stations. You'd trade with them for culture. Instead of settling 20 pop worth, the goal might be to use the settlers to create a certain number of stations and then get them all to tier 3.

    PANDORA

Played it a bit last summer. It's OK. Pretty fast paced for this kind of game. Randomized tech tree, unit workshop, nice UI. Many techs and unit chassis tend to be the the same thing in 3 tiers, which is boring. The victory conditions are very nice. I think I like BE more. I haven't played the...

    1UPT - final verdict?

I'm pretty much that kind of player. I like some challenge, but not too much because I can't handle it in long term games like these. I'll end save scumming like crazy and stress too much. Nevertheless, I prefer MUPT. I usually just play 1 or 2 levels under the difficulty that would really...

Trade Routes: Tweaks, yes; Drastic changes, no

Good discussion. I have just a minor thing about the management to contribute: I think it would be much simpler to renew the previous trade route if it was always listed on the top of the list. Might not even need any kind of auto-renew or a new "keep running until I tell you to stop" interface.

    What a blase "Victory" ending!

Yes, they put all their cinematic ammo on the opening cinematics these days because those can easily double as release trailers. Not so good for us players because those are the things probably most of us skip after seeing them once or maybe twice. More would probably not always skip the ending...

Civ BE's equivelant of 'Would you like to make a trade agreement with England?'

I got that connection too. Sims speaking some language I could understand would have gotten unbearable in a very short order. Same with the CiV leaders. I can understand a few, but most I don't.

    1UPT - final verdict?

Stacks may have been a problem, but there are much better ways to deal with them. 1UPT just doesn't work on this scale like it does in the scale Panzer General and similar games usually have. Units on the average don't get enough moves and are perpetually tripping over each other. Even stricter...
