    Great Spys

I played a mulyiplayer game recently where one guy seemed to have accessed the "spies cannot enter our borders" mission." Could it be available only in multiplayer, or maybe it was some other effect? What happened was that a 3rd player would try to send in a spy, and it would move one tile in...

The Use of Warlords (as opposed to instructors)

Awesome tips guys. Believe it or not, I've somehow been getting by without even thinking of promotions, much less using warlords! This thread is about to take me to the next level. Heh heh :mwaha:

    End of Game Scoring

Thanks for the link, cracker :goodjob: ... and to farting bob too, for trying, I guess ;) I'm not new, by the way; I just get confused by the chatter of 30,000 people :crazyeye: I actually used to post a lot, back when I could recognize all contributing members by name! GMB

    End of Game Scoring

Hi guys, It's been a while since I visited, but I just got back to the game recently, and I have a question that, as far as I know, isn't covered in the FAQ list: What determines your final score (which is considerably higher than the one you get on the histograph before game ends)? Do...

Vote now! The chicken or the egg.

Well, since an egg is essentially a cell, and chickens are made of cells, I would propose that, in fact, chickens are eggs. Therefore I must politely abstain from this vote. :crazyeye:

Top 5 Authors ALL - TIME

No, I mean: Who wrote the King James version of the Bible. Whoever revised it, translated it--whatever you want to call it. It's one of the most well-written texts in the history of English, AND it was being written at just about the time Shakespeare was around and kicking.

    Favourite Batman Villain?

Oh dear, grampa's off his rocker again...

    Sowing your wild oats.

Just out of curiosity, Mojo, did you make up these categories or run across them somewhere?

Cavalier, with polygamous tendencies. There's just too much beauty in the world...

    Favourite Batman Villain?

My favourite Batman villain (or maybe nemesis is a better term) isn't listed. It's... Superman! But if I had to go with the ones on this list, then the Joker, hands down.

Watchmen Vs The Dark Knight Returns.

Ooooh, tough call, tough call. I'd have to go with Watchmen for sheer scope, but DK was certainly a landmark in comics publishing as well. Btw, how many DK fans were disappointed with DK II? Absolutely awful, IMHO--I couldn't even muster up the curiosity to read beyond issue #1...

Which Is the Better Distopian Book?

1984, most definitely. It's simply a better-written book. Brave New World, as sharp and satirical as it is, just doesn't match Orwell's novel in plain old craftsmanship. Nevertheless, BNW is probably more relevant today, in terms of biotech.

    Help me name my band!

Feel free to name yourselves "Goodbye Mr. Bond" I know it's a tad long, but it sounds really cool to say with a bad-guy accent.

Really good: Leonard Cohen (start by getting his "Greatest Hits" CD) Margaret Atwood ("A Handmaid's Tale" is enjoyable for SF fans) Michael Ondaatje (his poetry is beautiful and accessible) John Ralston Saul (philosophy; try "On Equilibrium" for a start) Mordecai Richler (i love the kids'...

    Help for non-native english speakers

You're a genius, Elsaak! Thank you for your brilliant and subtle example of "smugness." It's far more effective than any definition could hope to be. And as for a "loo," it's British slang for toilet. Ex: "I'm going to the loo."

    Avatars Explained

Nothing against Mickey from Natural Born Killers, but us old-time villains prefer a little more subtlety and ambiguity mixed in with our dastardliness. Nothing says, "I'll show you--I'll show you all!" quite like a fluffy white kitty on one's lap. But that's just me.

    Unbearable Movies

And, at the same time, I would recommend to my friends and yet not watch a second time? I still don't understand what you are asking. If I like a movie, it is good. Even if it's disturbing, it is good. So, I'd watch it again, gladly. I think maybe "Kids" is the most disturbing one I've...

Yeay, somebody noticed! Thanks, AoA, it's good to be back--though to be honest I'm a bit intimidated by the population around here these days. I guess there have been a few "We Love Thunderfall Days" in my absence... Nice avatar, btw. Think your puss can beat my puss? :D gmb (And now...

Things in Civ3 that would make no sense in real life

Or: The Japanese naming their large dam project after their beloved former Emperor Yoshimitsu "Hoover" Heisei; or the famous Aztec playwright Qzxakltlaqzl Shakespeare and his theatre; or that reknowned Chinese inventor Leonardo Li's Workshop; or the cathedral made famous by that Iroquois...

    Do you rename cities?

I often name them after the surrounding countryside also, but I try to find a fun description, like: Prophylacticsburg (near rubber), Blubberville (near whales), North Nukem (uranium), etc. I always name my second capital "Forbidden City" so I can find it easily--especially when I'm building the...
