I personally play on Small (or smaller) maps with anyway from 3 to 16 civs. Games typically take me 1 to 4 hours. Multiplayer games at this level typically take 3 to 6 hours.
Phungus recommended that I ask this question here as he says you guys have a better handle on Civ4's interface than anyone else.
Currently I want to make a very small mod (for a map/scenario) which does two small things: adds +1 :commerce: to a tile when a road is built (like in Civ2) and...
I'm talking about when: I select a worker, and lets say I want to build a farm. So I highlight farm on the action bar at the bottom. Then in the bottom left a pop-up text with transparent background pops up and says +1:food: and -1:hammers:
Now I want +1:commerce: to pop up when a person...
Wow, awesome replies guys! Tholish and The_J - your stuff hit it right on the head!
Jaroth I see what you mean about railroads; mines, lumbermills, and quarries would get an additional +1 hammers. I'll edit them out (just change those values to 0).
Next question is somewhat related to this...
Wow, I tried doing that and Civ freaked out (testing via custom XML).
Here is the code I used.

Thanks, its actually in:
\Assets\XML\Misc\Civ4RouteInfos.xml
Can I actually just add this:
<YieldChanges>
<iYieldChange>0</iYieldChange>
<iYieldChange>0</iYieldChange>
<iYieldChange>1</iYieldChange>
</YieldChanges>
And it will work?
So I've made my own tiny earth map with 16 civs. Problem is the starting points are not balanced at all. America, India, China, and Mongolia starting points always seem to dominate.
To lessen their dominance I want to do the following:
- Make the Road Improvement provide one additional...
I wonder if it also assigns the human player a personality so that in a multiplayer game; when a human player leaves it already has a personality to start running in his/her place.
I have found that Nukes are best used for two purposes:
1. Preliminary bombardment for military invasion.
2. Destruction of production capabilities of a city in relation to space race (ie keep or delay them from building a part of the space ship).
One of my only few gripes about this map is that there isn't any god damn fish off the western coast of South America. I mean, WTF, its like the biggest fishing area in the entire world, it should have like five fish resources.
The scenario itself isn't particularly balanced as it is trying...
Yeah, if you're Rome. I find these are the most common types of wins for me as well. But then again I am a warmonger. (I've never actually won a culture victory, I've always thought it was the hardest to get).
Our main man Zubbus has the right idea here. Do not try to be friends with everyone. Pick a few civs that have positive reactions and keep them as friends. That means sometimes giving them some cash or a tech.
Damn, this did not work for me, I still have not been able to get a new intro screen to load even after uninstalling Blue Marble (although the ones that came with BtS and Warlords still work).
Hello all,
I was wondering if someone could point to (or tell me) a step by step guide for making and implementing a new intro screen.
I did a little searching on the forums and could not find a good guide, from what I gathered you can just change some of the "Assets/Art/Interface/Main...
Don't know what you are talking about I haven't had any problems - corporations work fine, the marathon poison bug is nitpicking, graphics look good even better with the new blue marble, and I haven't noticed anything with the AI.
This is the best expansion for any game I've ever played.
Wow, I like that idea - those kind of random events are pretty cool. The crap about improvements being destroyed and the like is just bad game design and the team of the original Civ 4 game knew it.
I have to say you have to at least chop the forests adjacent to your cities for security reasons - I once used Jungle Fighting Praetorians to pin in a city in a multiplayer game until I finally moved in some catapults.
