I doubt it is people having issues with "porn" or spyware on their systems. Although that is something to consider...
You having an older machine is probably what actually helps you. I've ran Civ IV on multiple machines and it always seems to run better on the older ones. Which is kind of...
Well it's not a total loss... it will eventually work, just sucks right now. I feel your pain, I spent the whole last week trying to get it to work on my girlfriends comp, finally figured it out (shader effects) but stuff like this should be worked out before release. Soon enough there will be...
Pallaeon if you don't mind not having the wonder videos playing, you can cut them out to where they do not play. You can also skip the intro screens too. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\&Username&\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
Choose the .ini file there and tweak away...
Life, if you were getting black terrain with the newest drivers installed you most likely still will. I went ahead and installed the omega drivers on this machine, and it worked fine except it was slow. When I applied the shader settings I still received slow performance.
I went back to the...
btw, if it doesn't work the first time also check the option
OVERRIDE SHADER SETTINGS.
If that doesn't do it, if you installed the OMEGA drivers they are actually older than the new Nvidia ones. Go to their site and install the latest drivers from nvidia 81.94.
Then redo the shader...
My girlfriend had similiar problems such as yourselves. It came down to tweaking the video card settings. I suggest checking those out and disabling certain features, like trilinear buffering, AA and such. Also move your sliders to performance instead of quality.

hehe it's ok. Yes it will work fine. And if you don't like the results you can simply return the values to their original settings. The program doesn't actually install anything on your system. Just tweaks your settings.
It's a tweak utility to configure the advanced features of your video card. I myself ran it and it worked perfectly. There are a multitude of options to choose from.
Ah.. not sure what they are talking about but I have not heard anything come out of their mouths. Installed on two machines and they haven't said a peep.
The units on the map however do talk if you zoom in close to them. Click on them and they speak in their correct language. Nifty.
IF you are having issues with the wonder movies and the intro screens you can turn them off by accessing the .ini file civ uses.

Go to this thread for slow performance fix.

I don't know if this will help but I posted a fix (link below) for geforce cards for slow performance. But I don't think you are having this problem, still worth a shot though...
