Well I kinda feel stupid because this is a large error on my part. However I figured I'd share this so maybe a few other folks can benefit. Before I fixed my probs, I was experiencing extremely long turns (5+ min) and large maps would lock up my pc completely when I tried loading them...

Unfortunately the ini fix didn't work for me. When trying to load a large map late in the game (~1960s) my screen goes black. Then after awhile it looks like this till I reboot: That was taken with a digital cam since my PC is all locked up.

update: Now it crashes everytime I try to load it. I was able to get it to load by deleting cache, however after turn was done it locked up and froze for an hour+ before I gave up and rebooted pc.

Take a look in advanced>about from civ4 main menu and see if its updated.
