I never get bothered by barbs; I usually follow a "Worker/Work Boat if food techs/Warrior if none, then Worker; military until happy cap; spam settlers/workers" strategy, it never led me wrong so far, and I have plenty of military to whack those pesky barbs away. ;) And yeah, if barbs come by...
