    Rome 2 - Impressions

Yep. Aside from the ones you mentioned, two other ones that pretty much killed the game til patch/mods came in were AI's inability to do naval invasion (in age of sails? :crazyeye:) and that one nasty bug where if any faction, including the Ottomans, held surrounding territories around the...

    Rome 2 - Impressions

That's why you don't upgrade castles, ever. Then it's pretty easy to hit 10+ surplus food early on and then the snowballing starts to get ridiculous from there. Also new provinces don't need to add to the surplus food. As long as they don't take away from the surplus food, they are welcome...

    Rome 2 - Impressions

You are really misunderstanding it by big margin, because with the farm trick you don't want to delay expansions. You want to expand as much as possible because every province compounds to this growth aspect.

    Rome 2 - Impressions

I think the design decision is pretty clear, they don't want small raiding party at all (which makes the AI extra ironic and idiotic since that's all the AI tries to do with their tiny mini armies that just melt at your doomstack). And this is an example of why I think current state of AI is a...

    Rome 2 - Impressions

Most of your gold in Shogun 2 came from the ridiculous effect of global surplus food adding to each province wealth. So if you upgraded your castle to improve tax income, it actually hurt you both in the short term (cost of the castle) and in the long term (losing out of ridiculous global...

    Rome 2 - Impressions

Hmm that's an interesting way of looking at it. I thought of it as design oversight because 1. it punishes anyone from developing their towns beyond 2 to 4 that will be used for army/agent recruitment purposes (hard to imagine them intending for much of their in-game assets to be actively...

    Rome 2 - Impressions

Hmm, you mean in terms of singleplayer? Because Shogun 2 campaign had a major problem in that the campaign wasn't well balanced so it boiled down to 3+ weapon ashigaru spam with building nothing but farms. Throw in ninjas to lock down armies for more lulzy-ness. But man, I'm having such major...

    Rome 2 - Impressions

After checking out steam forum (why do I keep going there...), I was half expecting complete trainwreck of a game. Turns out it's pretty much how I originally expected it to be. Fun, bit of improvements and questionable changes here and there, with lot of bugs. Province system looks good...

Seriously Civ 5! Desert and Tundra

Best thread I have read in a while. Googling all the names being mentioned has shown me a lot of really beautiful places :D

When did you first start playing Civilization?

Civ 2. Got Civ 3 but didn't play it much for some reason. Then got into cIV and ciV.

    Is BNW anti warmongering?

Kind of off topic, but every legit historical study enthusiasts I've seen cringe at the level of realism/authenticity of TW games... I suppose it's more realistic than say, Warcraft series. But on its own it's pretty atrocious. It's so atrocious that your view of TW games, IMO is hurting your...

    How important are Wonders?

What I did to escape the wonder obsession was to play ICS-esque strat. It's about as anti wonder as it can get, and a couple of successful games without building much wonders (I only built wonders when I got Great Engineers) helped me see the light of what proper infrastructure can do vs wonder...

Most beautiful city that ever flipped to you

Yeah what does "preferred" status mean? Because in my last game a city sharing border with my empire flipped but instead went to Catherine who was on the other side of my empire. Not that I was too focused on tourism that particular game but it did look rather strange.

Anybody Else Moving Up a Difficulty Level w/BNW?

I moved up from prince/king (did well on prince but didn't quite master king) to emperor, but I think it has more to do with stick with a strat (wide with liberty-piety combo). Before I just sort of... played without any benchmarks or overarching plan than to just do stuff.

No Gold on Rivers and Ocean - I'm stuck -80 GPT - Help!

Ehh early trade routes are not nothing. Even the basic early ones can get 3 ~ 4 GPT, more if you get some nice placements and neighbors. Then there is the religion. With both gold on river/ocean and religion back in G&K, the game was just bit too face-roll-esque. Nothing really "wrong"...

Is BNW a success? The true test.

I've finished couple of marathon games with BNW so yes, it's been a massive success with me :D

Civ V no longer a 4x or am I missing something?

Well the global aspect is still very abstract. Until mass communications technologies are developed over time (printing press, radio, tv), most problems would be very local in nature. But given how much global effects existed in Civ series, I personally don't see this as the sore thumb, but...

Opening Honor in our Brave New World

It's 1 happiness and 2 culture for having a military unit sitting in a city instead of fighting. Liberty tree can provide 1 happiness and 1 culture per connected city without forcing you to station a unit in your cities. "ur large army that u have" should be killing civs to earn the...
