I just attempted to make a quick custom mod. Nothing fancy, just a custom tech quote and Civilopedia entry.
I dropped it in the Beyond the Swords Mod folder and started the game up. The mod appeared, loaded, and played. But the custom quotes didn't load with it.
It looks like the XML never...
If not, I would be surprised if no one will. I'd love to see the paintings, musical themes and literary quotes back to back in a video.
...this post is one gigantic "HINT HINT"
Has anyone figured out all of the tunes used as bases? I'm still trying to place Venice's. (I'm upset about the lack of Vivaldi, too)
Looking at the thread, here's the list so far:
Assyria: ?
Brazil: Chega de saudade
Indonesia: Udan Mas
Morocco: ?
Poland: Bóg Się Rodzi
Portugal: ...
My theory is that Venice will be the only city in the Venetian Empire. I vaguely recall that one of the civs will be a "pro-level" civ, and having an empire designed for a one-city challenge seems like a tough but fascinating idea. Its Ability, Unit and Building would all serve to make your lone...
For music, I'm guessing these would be included:
Bach - The Brandenburg Concertos
Mozart - Don Giovanni
Wagner - Das Nibelungenleid
Gershwin - Rhapsody in Blue
Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Allegri - Miserere
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club...
It might not be so bad. The civs in the game have two colors in their color scheme. The Polynesians are orange and yellow, the Dutch are orange and white.
William of Orange's picture is interesting to me
His general look appears to be accurate...
And the background seems derived from the paintings of Johannes Vermeer:
Which I find very artistically neat. It's like how Civ 5's George Washington is visually based on Gilbert...
Honestly, it might be neat to have an in-game civ editor. You know, something along the lines of the character creation tools in most MMORPGs.
Most of it would be mix-and-match; Mongolia's color scheme with America's flag and Siam's city list with Englands UA, and so on. Leader figures would...
As someone who spent a good deal of time creating custom leaderheads in Civilization IV, I'd love a feature in a Civ game that aided modders with a customizable civilization creator.
My idea would work somewhat like the character creator engine in MMORPGs, like the very customizable ones in...
As someone who spent a good deal of time creating custom leaderheads in Civilization IV, I'd love a feature in a Civ game that aided modders with a customizable leader portrait creator.
My idea would work somewhat like the costume creator engine in Champions Online. There would be a set of...
I'm not sure I'd want to see the Celts in Civ V, if only because Firaxis seems to be pushing Civ into a less Eurocentric direction with the inclusion of Songhai, Siam, Polynesia and other new civs to the series.
For DLC after this I'd like to see either more American civs or African ones. For...
One thing I love about the game is the music - specifically how the composers show off their research and use culturally relevant melodies to base their themes on.
We already know plenty about the main civilization's musical themes, but has anyone tracked down the musical stings for the city...
I'd like to throw my moral support behind this. Unfortunately I don't have the time to throw myself behind the project anymore, and I'd love to see someone else pick it up.
I like the idea for the Dutch Unique Power. For the name, what if we call it Gezelligheid? It would fit the definition, and it's a very strong component of Dutch culture.
