    Deity: how to do everything?

Some stuff that has helped me start winning Domination victories on Deity/Pangaea pretty consistently: 1. Using early trade routes to keep up in tech - Sure, the gold is nice, but the real advantage of these trade routes is the +4-5 bpt. This can nearly double your science in the early game and...

    Trade route strategy

I find the trade route overview menu really useful. When I have a new route available, I always check the 'available routes' tab, usually sorted by gold so I can see what would be most lucrative and makes plans to build either a caravan or a cargo boat.

Zulu Domination Guide (Deity, standard, Pangea)

Thanks glory! I am only playing on King, but I just used your guide (more or less) to win a domination game with Zulu (standard settings, fractal map) in 1605 AD. I never upgraded beyond Impis and xbows, though I'm sure that's not doable on higher difficulties. By the end I had 5 xbows with...

    Some (kind of noobish) questions

@ jon and chazzy: Very helpful, thanks so much. So for tourism, the unhappiness penalty only comes into play once ideologies get chosen? And only if mine is different from the AI that is overwhelming me?

    Some (kind of noobish) questions

Hey all. I played a ton of Civ4 but I am still kind of learning on Civ5, and BNW definitely threw me for a loop. I play King difficulty, otherwise standards settings, and I tend toward war-mongering, though I am trying to learn some of the other vic types. A few questions here in various...

    Shaka early domination strategy

There is another Zulu domination guide from a couple days ago which I based a recent game on, pretty successfully. (I only played King difficulty, and I wasn't as fast but it worked). Main difference was that he uses Liberty. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=504129 What date do...

Whats the big deal with immortal pretorians?

HAs can certainly work for a rush but they have a shorter window and are more situational, especially on higher difficulties. The AI usually doesn't build as many spears as they should but even so, you will lose a lot to them. And you better hope they don't get WEs. @OP: Six is a small number...

Whats the big deal with immortal pretorians?

^^^ This. Once your veterans start getting city raider 2 and 3 they are unstoppable.

Time to face it: I suck at Noble.

I agree the start isn't great, but perfectly workable for what we are trying to achieve (learning fundamentals of early game). @Joe: I would tech AH -> Mine -> BW. Worker first, then improve your food resources (I guess sheep first but doesn't matter much if you do rice first). Warrior roughly...

Time to face it: I suck at Noble.

@Joe: Listen to Lymond. Focus on the fundamentals. Things like city specialization and playing to a leader's traits can wait. Go ahead and move your warrior, settle in place, queue up a worker, and decide what to tech first. Then you won't have to make another decision for 10 turns or so and...

Quick and Dirty Culture Victory Guide

Thanks for this guide Kirbdog. Very helpful. I just won my first Culture victory, emperor difficulty (on my 2nd try). First try I got bogged down in a 500-year war with Elizabeth. I was fending her off with outdated tech, but she had already swallowed up two other civs and eventually she won...

Constant War: Can't sue for peace!

I had a similar situation recently on the Immortal Challenge #3 - Siam. Hiawatha DoWed on me and managed to briefly capture one of my cities. I retook the city, brought the war to his lands by taking one of his cities, and had ships and troops massing just outside another of his island cities...

Taking on two allied human players

Good stuff. Yes, I was thinking nukes. I will need to follow up with a land invasion to take their cities though right? I am definitely ahead in tech but I am concerned they will catch up using research agreements. I'm not exactly sure how those work or if that is a real threat though. I could...

Beware "Shall we go to war with..."

Seriously? So the relations make essentially no difference and any AI can DoW even at friendly?

    Diplo tutorial?

Thanks, this is helpful. Is there some way I can see what diplo modifiers I have with each Civ? Like in Civ4, you could mouse over a leader and it would say like "+4 We love our brothers and sisters of the faith" or "-2 You declared war on our friend." I get that each interaction is contributing...

Beware "Shall we go to war with..."

This mechanic makes no sense. So regardless of your answer, neither you nor the Civ that asked are obligated to go to war in 10 turns? So what are the consequences of saying no to this request?

    Diplo tutorial?

I'm sure this exists somewhere but I tried searching and the only thing I could find was a sample game that didn't really explain diplo at all. Can anybody point me to something that explains the consequences/costs/benefits of various diplo options? I really have no idea what is going on. For...

Taking on two allied human players

To begin, I should mention that I am much better at Civ4 than Civ5, but I am familiar enough with the game and I generally play and win on King difficulty level. I have not played a ton of Civ5 MP but I have mostly had success against my friends. Anyway, in my current game I am Monty and I...

    Immortal University 95 - Bismarck

1854AD Diplo-mation victory: SB teched like crazy in my game, but I was prepared to hit him with a fairly large infantry/artillery army, which I planned to supplement with a few turns of building tanks. Thanks for the game Klonoklown! Inland sea was a fun twist. [/SPOILER]
