Aisonia/Terrance 888
Colour: Purple
Location: Northern Greece
Background: Aisonia is a large interior state controlling the passes into central Greece. The state was established by an ancient Greek State (called "Athens") as a buffer zone against the barbarian Migrations. They soon became half-barbarized themselves. After years of low pay and constant fighting, they turn to their rich southern brothers to do the deed they were hired to prevent.
Their society is harsh, having to deal with constant barbarian invasions from the northern passes while barely surviving on their less-than-fertile land. This led to a common spirit between the peasants and the civic folk. In war, the Civic folk would form the classic Phalanx, while a levy of peasants would form masses of skirmishers and spearmen.

nevermind...

Oh im all for killing the player

You risk revolt/civil war etc if you do too much stupid stuff. I don't kill players, but i might kill their nation.. it would require continued stupidity over several turns tho.

Yea for stupidity but not for having a monopoly on a resource.

I know it is a NES. But that doesn't have to mean big color blobs taking... Sibiria in 2000 bc. A good NES can be realistic, with realistic resource flow. Now country in the world ever had a lack of Tin because someone took control over the resource.

Maybe because no ever did so. The sources were Iberia and Britannia (and northern Germany) - not exactly the biggest empires known, mostly really just a bunch of a dirty barbarians :p

But it probably will be different in an NES. Why should players be at a disadvantage to others at the start of it?

Because they AREN'T in a disadvantage. Resource flow in the world never put the middle east in a disadvantage because of the total lack of tin for the best type of Copper. Reality check. The sources of Tin are in less populated, less cultured areas (of which only Iberia has a player) and the flow works in a way that it only encourages trade but does not encourage monopolies (if Iberia monopolies Tin, buy it from Britain, you don't even have to do it, since you don't actually control your smithies).

According to your worries, we shouldn't allow players to start at coasts or rivers since it gives them advantages of population and trade.

I for one don't want resources, they're too tedious in regards to what I expected from the OP. I joined because I wanted to play simple in something simple. And I think the work load it adds to Abaddon doesn't compensate for the gain.

Seeing as everyone is starting at a coast, it shouldn't matter. Also, resources can easily be moved unrealistically whereas coasts can't. And you keep relating it to real life but it's different than in an NES.

Not in a realism NES.

Anyway. Abbadon needs to do nothing extra. It does not extra workload. Everything should be the same as always, with just a hint of memory that trade should be encouraged in the Middle and Late Bronze Era.

Someone who uses his economy to wage a war when the whole economic sector is against it will fail, be overthrown. You can't win wars without some kind of support. I'm just saying that there is some support/confidence from the people to the ruler, and particularly from the wealthy, that needs modelling. If the wealthy don't support the ruler, the ruller has no money and can't go with his plans. Even in a NES, you can't do anything.
Plus the economy doesn't have to be micromanaged. Tin trade routes will exist because there will always be someone to make some profit out of them, they can be abstracted for the most part.

Well I guess it's just down to Abaddon, and how much workload he wants.

As above, I think Abaddon should decide whether he wants to. From the description it looks like a simpler NES (I hope it is anyway) so a lot of what you said I doubt will be included, although again it's Abby's call.

Indeed, it is his call if he want to add anything extra. Won't mind if he doesn't and I'm sure all of us will understand if he's unwilling to take a massive workload due to extra features.

Therita/Adrogans
Colour: Whatever the hell you want it to be
Location: Constantinople region
Background: A village that has risen to prominence at the center of a nation due to their ingenuity and trade skills. Therita is led by a council of elected officials. Therita is a surprisingly free society for the era and has no actual nobility, just a citizenry and slaves.

Quick, dirty, don't care.

And Tatheo begat Abel, and as time passed Abel did consumate his own marriage with the daughter of Opey who was paid seven fine rams in exchange for his loss, for his daughter did support much of the family by repairing nets for the fishermen and lo, so she did even as Abel oversaw her efforts.

And Hannibal was saddened by the way in which daughters were bought and sold, but from among his tribes it was long held practice and he did not think it a wise battle to choose. For Hannibal was wise in the way of the Tao and he knew that evils must exist and his purpose as he believed it, was only to create a place where good could flourish.

But Hannibal was practical of mind and so he said to the Carthegians, let us organize our people by their professions, and they shall elect from among their number a member to represent them and bring their concerns before me, and before the representatives of the other guilds, so that we may work together more perfectly and bring the Justice of Carthage to greater heights.

And among themselves the people did speak excitedly and fishers went among fishers and farmers among farmers, and the Eyes of the Prophet did speak among themselves and so did the diggers of ditches and builders of roads.

Abel did speak among the fishermen, for Tatheo had been a fisherman and such was the way of Abel's family, and behind him did follow the daughter of Opey. But Hannibal called out to them and asked of her, "Why do you follow with the fishermen, for you must have your own guild for weavers."

And when he heard this Abel did shout fiercely and came up to the prophet, for Hannibal did not allow his Eyes to escort him, and exclaimed "Are you here telling this daughter that she will consort with you, do you intend to steal my wife?"

And the Prophet was well known to be without seed, and many fathers had tried to offer him their daughters but he had not a use for a woman.

The Prophet laughed at these accusations and said, "You know, my child, of my problems. I simply wish to allow all of the workers of Carthage to voice their concerns."

"But I own this woman!" Abel did explain, "And Daughters are not allowed to possess property or to make decisions!"

"Selah," spoke the prophet, "For the station of women has been fixed in the stars, and it is known that they are weaker than men, but through work all may become strong, and through work all may help Carthage. But they cannot do so without a voice, or without owning their tools."

And Abel was much confused, but he did permit his wife to found her guild, and so did women begin to own property in Carthage.

Hello one an all. After a fantastic Birthday weekend in Amsterdam with my parents (Dad's 60th) and then Halloween, I am now back and will be focus'd on this again.

It will be a simple NES. I want to be able to run this, I do not write long detailed updates, but hopefully that will be OK.

Stories are ALWAYS welcome, and will be rewarded (If you like, put in brackets after a story what benefit for your nation you are thinking?)

I'll be tinkering as the week progresses with Update 0 hopefully this weekend..

I just wrote my stories to give background and try to work out how I plan to design bronze age Communism and Prophetic Taoism. To kind of explain that the people are organized according to profession, to for a foundation of Union-Based civic involvement, and how high-minded the Carthegians here are, and so that later I can begin to work out a board of advisers and later a parliament in order to curb the power of the future prophets. Kind of like what Iran's constitution looks like, except instead of being a Shi'ite constitutional democratic theocracy Carthage is going to be a Civic Involvement-based Theocracy where political roles are tied to professional standing and the religion is something called Prophetic Taoism that holds on to a lot of perspectives of Taoism without really being Taoism (being somewhat westernized with the emphasis on prophecy and centralized doctrine), and also incorporating the doctrine of Karma and Reincarnation from RL Hindu.

As far as my thoughts, I can't really think of what sort of a bonus would be had from that, I just thought it seemed like a tasty flavor.

Sounds good Abaddon. :)

Nice pictures as well. Seems like you really enjoyed Halloween!

I think thanks should go to the amazing photographer ;)

Naked Stats are up.

This is to say I have not yet edited them in any way to be unique.. be that your army/navy/economy/whatever. However they are tabled and excelled etc. I have linked to your post that has your location and background.. some of you need to expand on this!

Or I should say in the process of going up, so fugging annoying to get the coding right!
