LizNES6: Fortune Favors The Brutal

In terms of the update, schoolwork and real life have kept me busy, and will, at least through tonight. Best case scenario, it's updated tomorrow, worst case tomorrow.

Yep. 5char.

President Dan Wyatt breathed, his temper was notorious and his aides trembled slightly, afraid of what will happen next. Wyatt, clenched his hands and released them, "You mean to tell me that Galveston is unable to expand their ports? I personally visited Galveston when I thought of my future for Texas and saw that half of their harbor facilities were off line and in disrepair! I aim to bring them back online and repaired or rebuilt so they can accommodate our modern ships! So you go back to Galveston and tell those engineers to get off their behinds and make it work or I will find someone who will!"
The Aides sighed, his full fury was not released, shouting they could work with, but he refrained from swearing and due to that fact the aides knew Wyatt had calmed down a bit for the next bit of news. "Sir, the engineers building the first high speed train section from Dallas to Houston reports they are ahead of schedule and have already dispatched half of their team to begin work on the Houston-Galveston section. The head engineer reports that the barring acts of God, such as Tornadoes or Hurricanes, they entire project should be done in 3 years, maybe 2. The engineers have already completed the San Antonio-Houston section ahead of schedule much to the relief of the chief project administrator who kept an eye on the approaching Hurricane Season."
The Aide paused, before President Wyatt responded, "What about Galveston?"
The Aide, seeming unsure of how to advance, finally said, "The team that was sent ahead reports that rising sea levels means their projected completion time would be delayed, it appears Hurricane Season has arrived much quicker than meteorologists anticipated." The aide stood stoically as Wyatt surprisingly took the message a simple shrug.
"Well, nothing we can do about Mother Nature. As long as the Dallas-Houston Project completes quickly and the link to connect Dallas and San Antonio via Austin completes in relatively quick time the Galveston project can wait. The new lines cannot really do anything until the harbors are upgraded anyways. Dismissed."

The Aides scurried out, each heading to their desks to call the project heads and inform them of the situation. Wyatt simply sat down in his desk and turned his chair around to see Dallas, further ahead is Fort-Worth with Arlington right next to it and together the three metropolis makes this megalopolis one of the largest population centers in North America with close to 10 million people crammed into an area no larger than Rhode Island and Connecticut together. Which was why he wanted the high speed rail system, it would not only relieve congestion on the interstates from Dallas-Fort Worth to other cities but would also be linked to the inter-city transportation system, thus relieving congestion even more. Alas the inter-city transportation systems haven't begun construction yet, they are still in the planning stages as engineers study each city in Texas and designs an efficient system unique to each city that works to the cities advantages. But in Wyatts mind he can see Texas already poised to dominate the Gulf and become one of the most technologically efficient nations in the world, and hopefully the envy of other nations when it comes to Transportation networks.

Wyatt smiled, perhaps in 4-5 years he would see for himself just how his dream would come to fruition. He glanced down at the Paper he had in his hand, the Dallas Times, he chuckled as he noticed that the Austin Longhorns crushed their opponents, the Dallas Stars 66-23 and looked across the city to the monstrosity that is the Stars home. "Only in Texas, will they build buildings that big." He chuckled, of course the building in question is very old and is in need of major overhauls and it is already in the works that a new stadium will be built and will be in tune with the architect of Dallas, no longer sticking out like a sore thumb. Wyatt chuckled, Dallas is nothing like Austin but Dallas has its charms, most notably it is home to the only sports league that stays in one area, baseball. Started in Arlington with 2 teams it has since seen 2 teams from Fort Worth and 2 teams from Dallas and appears to be gaining quite a following. Wyatt could never really understand the game, he knew it was a favorite pastime of the old America, but since it fell apart baseball seems to have stopped. At least in Texas, until a wealthy billionaire whose ancestors owned a baseball team called the Texas Rangers in Arlington. If the billionaire was to be believed two of his ancestors were also Presidents of the old USA.

Wyatt believed this billionaire, William Bush, cannot be a Texan, he supports Baseball not Football, he refused to drink beer and for reasons he cannot understand, the man does not enjoy barbeque! Wyatt finds Bush an odd creature and hates having the billionaire in his office in Dallas and tries to avoid him whenever possible, his family on the other hand are real Texans, his 2 sons own the Austin Longhorns and he frequents the Owners box several times to watch the games with them and discuss football with beer in hand and barbeque grilling behind them. The female Bush's support football just as much as their brothers but seem to have gained their father's refusal to drink alcohol, but despite this strange trait, one is currently Secretary of the Treasury for Texas and the other is the Governor of San Antonio and Wyatt keeps in contact with both women. Despite this Wyatt must admit that the senior Bush, William seems to know the people, baseball is gaining success in the Megalopolis and he feels stadiums could spring up all over Texas in a short time. He just hopes football will continue to stand strong and remain in the hearts of all Texans. Wyatt sighed, "What am I talking about, of course football will still be in the hearts of Texans." Chuckling Wyatt grabbed his briefcase and overcoat and headed for the doors before laughing over his ridiculous thought that baseball would overcome football in Texas.

TREMBLAY DEAD!!

An emergency meeting of Parliament prepares to choose the new Prime Minister

Québec City, Capitale-Nationale - Tragedy struck our great nation yesterday with the passing of le Très Honorable Jean Tremblay, Prime Minister of Quèbec, at the age of 68. Tremblay was rushed to the hospital in Amos after being found, huddled and hypothermic, on the shore near his cabin on the Belcher Islands. Always an avid fisherman, Prime Minister Tremblay is believed to have fallen out of his boat and into the frigid waters of the Hudson Bay, where he was forced to swim back to shore. He was found by his bodyguards and evacuated to the closest hospital, the Centre hospitalier Hotel-Dieu d'Amos, nearly 1000km away. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Parliament was notified of his passing immediately, and a national day of mourning was declared. Jean Tremblay is survived by his wife, Annette, and his two sons, Claude and Jean-Sebastien.

In order to keep government running smoothly, parliament scrambled to determine Tremblay's successor as the head of state and government. An emergency session was called so a vote could be made. After an unusually short deliberation, Bernard Géroux, a young representative from Laval, was chosen with overwhelming support from nearly all the represented parties. Géroux, a conservative with le Parti de l'Unité, was the mastermind behind the Sagamie-Nord Métamorphose, the industrialization program which has made Québec an economic power and a player on the world stage, which is credited as a core reason for his popularity amongst members of parliament. Bernard Géroux, in his first address as Prime Minister, stated quite frankly that "late Prime Minister Tremblay and the present government's efforts will make Québec stronger and more successful than she has ever been" and that "today heralds a new era of strength, prosperity, and solidarity".

Spoiler :

Northern Frontier Bears Fruit

A new copper ore processing facility running near Rivière aux Feuilles

Kuujjuaq, Nord-du-Québec - Policy makers have begun to revel in the capital after seeing the successes of industrial stimulation projects enacted last year. The Sagamie-Nord Métamorphose, a project that aims to industrialize the northern territories and tap into its undisturbed mineral resources, has, after healthy investment, created new jobs for Québecois (including most of the immigrants from Europe), brought significant revenue to the national government and private corporations, and took long strides in diversifying the nation's economy. Members of parliament were pleasantly surprised to see the benefits coming so early, especially since projected benefits were believed to be lesser and were only to show up after three years of investment. These results have served as a green-light for increased investment planned for the next few years.

Economic benefits are not the only things being found from the project. New towns have begun to spring up and grow in the previously sparsely populated interior of the Nord-du-Québec region as well as the other northern territories. French settlements erected by both the Continentaux and the Européen have been seen on the outskirts and just outside the mining areas. Despite their small sizes, these towns are expected to play a massive role in how the region will develop, serving as hubs for transportation and infrastructure networks as well as promoting deeper penetration into wilderness areas.

Scandinavian War of Unification is Over!
Copenhagen, United Commonwealth of Scandinavia

After several long years of war that spread from Finland to Madagascar, the War of Scandinavian Unification (or the War of Norse Aggression, depending on where you live) is finally over, with what was ideally a North Sea victory. The Norse Imperium, seceded by the United Commonwealth of Scandinavia has successfully united the entirety of Scandinavia and the Nordic world, as it’s known, while England has succeeded in establishing itself as one of Europe’s pre-eminent powers.

The war officially ended on January 12th, with the signing of the treaty of La Haya and victory celebrations swept throughout the member states of the North Sea alliance, while members of the Coalition Against Norse Aggression looked back at what could be best described as a very bloody mess. The war guaranteed the independence of Dutch Republic, while the Franco-Germanic Empire was given the scraps of the Lowland’s Union (without their actual consent). Spain left the conquered colonies of the UCS and England, in what was basically the agreement that they would be given a free hand in dealing with Morocco, who was previously an ally of the North Sea alliance. All of what had been the territory of the Norse Imperium was also given back to the United Commonwealth of Scandinavia, to the chagrin of Poland, who had also been notably rather left out of the treaty. And while critics may cite La Haya as simply being a bandage for a large issue, no one was quite ready to toss the prospect of peace, however shaky, aside.

A trade embargo, issued by Ireland at the start of the war was declared over, as Irish merchants made their way into English and Scandinavian ports for the first time in 4 years, while English and Scandinavian ships returned to their colonies in Africa to relieve the Spanish garrisons there. Demobilization occurred in many of the nation’s almost immediately, but for anyone who managed to visit the UCS at the time found something a bit more sinister going on. The Nordism that had come to define the rule of Henric III quickly found itself to be described best as ultra-nationalism, in a similar vein as to what had happened in the United States of the Atlantic. Fatherland Volunteers, groups of Nordist activists opened up chapters across Scandinavia, and even received a slight following in Northumbria, with a chapter opening up in Nottingham. These Volunteers were the first to help the reconstruction of Jutland, site of some of the most brutal fighting in the war.

English soldiers maintained order in the new Dutch Republic, which attempted to organize a reliable democratic government, with a very strong Prime Minister. The English soldiers are expected to leave next year.

Spain, meanwhile has continued to celebrate its relative economic success, due in large part to their relative lack of involvement in the northern theater of the war, and it’s successes against Morocco. The governments of Padania and Brittany have fallen under some fairly harsh criticism for getting involved in the war in the first place, with the government of Padania attempting to make amend for its decision by distancing itself from its Franco-Germanic allies. Without Polish and German support, the rebels in Finland too, disbanded and returned home, fearing the repercussions the Nordists might enact upon them, if their ‘insolence’ was to continue. And after 6 years of fighting for them specifically, who could blame them?

Red Crescent Founded
Jerusalem, the Free-City of Jerusalem

The Red Cross, relocated into the Free-City of Jerusalem last year, has finally allowed for a branch that helped strictly Muslim nations, known as the Red Crescent, similar to the pre-Collapse organization. The Red Crescent was founded largely on the hefty donation it received from Mesopotamia, which, according to some analysts, was larger than the total amount of donations the Red Cross received in the past year, though no party refused to further comment. Regardless, smaller donations from both Mysore and Egypt were sent to the Red Crescent, and all the money immediately went towards Red Crescent aid towards casualties in the Fars War. While Kurdish officials were more than happy to let the Red Crescent take care of their wounded, the Persians proved a bit more hesitant. However, the effect was felt, and it’s steady and quality work in the war has proven to many Mesopotamians that their government made a fairly good choice in supporting such a noble cause.

Moon-landing!
Basra, The Mesopotamian Empire

The whole world watched as Mesopotamia became the first nation to successfully land men on the moon since the ‘old-times’. Two Mesopotamian cosmonauts, Endrew Dinije and Danillo Ahmet landed on the lunar surface, and planted the Mesopotamian flag in the ground, claiming the entirety of Mare Imbrium for Mesopotamia ‘for research purposes’. While few are actually legitimately recognizing such a vast claim, the point has been made. The Mesopotamian Air Aeronautics and Space Administration is the best space-program in the world, and it’s impossible to deny that fact. Dinije and Ahmet have themselves become heros, not just for their own Mesopotamia (and Siam, by extension) but for the Muslim world as a whole.

Iron Compact Forms
Stockholm, The United Commonwealth of Scandinavia

In one stroke of a pen, the nations of England, Northumbria, Scotland, the Dutch Republic, South Island, and the United Commonwealth of Scandinavia formed a fairly large alliance block dubbed by Henric III as the ‘Iron Compact’. It’s structure was largely based out of the organization the North Sea Alliance had created, with the addition of the Dutch Republic and South Island. The organization has set up it’s headquarters in Stockholm, and though the extent and involvement of the alliance hasn’t really been revealed, they have made their world presence known.

Greater Caucasia Economic League Established
Tbilisi, Georgia

Established in Tbilisi, Georgia, the GCEL was created to hopefully increase the industry and economies of the Caucas countries involved, many of which are still struggling to recover from two Russian invasions in the past 30 years. Ossetia, Daghestan and Armenia were quick to throw their lot in with the GCEL, while Transcaucasia and Azerbaijan have applied for a membership with the organization. The phrase of the day seems to be economic integration, as trade barriers between the nations already involved have been lifted, or at least minimized. Military cooperation and mutual defense between the nations has so far not been referenced in the charter, though many are hoping to see the league grow to include that, with the growth of both Chernorussiya and Persia.

Quebecois Prime Minister Dies!
Montreal, Quebec

Quebecois Prime Minister, Jean Tremblay died while ice fishing in the Hudson Bay. Tremblay seems to of fallen out of his boat, and froze to death soon thereafter. While the nation mourned the loss of one of their best Prime Ministers as of yet, the Quebecois Parliament managed to find a most worthy successor to Prime Minister Tremblay, Bernard Géroux. Géroux was the mastermind behind the Sagamie-Nord Métamorphose project, and became quite the fixture in Quebecois politics in the following time. A member of the Parti de l'Unité, many expect him to continue, if not better Tremblay’s legacy, and lead his nation, which is quickly becoming a world power, to greater heights.

The Glory of the Texan Military
Austin, The Republic of Texas

An announcement by the Texan military this year has led to the establishment of a West-Point styled military academy in Austin, which has attracted many hundreds of young prospects which are hoping to become greater assets to their country’s military power. The growing threat of war with the Hudsonists in Mexico and California has also been particularly encouraging, and many thousands of young men are volunteering to fight for their country.

Texan Transportation Revolution
Dallas, The Republic of Texas

Similar to their Communist neighbors, the Republic of Texas has begun investing in its transportation infrastructure, particularly in the high-speed trains’ technology. High-speed train routes between the major cities in the Republic were built fairly quickly, particularly between Dallas, Austin and Houston. While many Texans claim that their trains are the ‘fastest in the world’ many are simply chalking it up to their own bravado, as California’s high-speed monorail system still retains that title. Plans for a revamped port and harbor system were also looked over, and are expected to go into effect within the next few years.

Embassy Riots in Cascadia
Olympia, Cascadia
The recent Californian police action in Mexico has led to several bloody protests enveloping the Californian embassy in Olympia, as ever growing crowds violently assembled outside of the embassy’s gates. While rowdy, the crowd had largely maintained a peaceful composure, until one Californian staffer attempted to command the crowd to disperse. The staffer found himself under assault from a variety of projectile objects, before a glass bottle struck him in the head, and knocked him out. Before the situation could be fully made out, it was clear that he was stoned to death by the crowd. The Cascadian police force has attempted to disperse the crowds, but only seemed to feed into their fire. Meanwhile, more Californian guards have been flown into the embassy, with Comrade Hudson’s apparent refusal to acknowledge to ‘barbarian horde’.

Quebec, who has had increasingly large business interests in the area has been prying the Cascadian President for more details, and assurances Quebecois businesses aren’t being damaged, though not much has come from that.

War In Panama
Panama City, The Republic of Alaska

In a move that shocked the world, the Alaskan military attempted to stage some form of a coup in Panama early this year, with a large portion of their navy moving towards Panama City in an attempt to capture the Panamanian president, with the goal of threatening the small Central American nation into falling ajar from their Californian friends to the north. The attempted landings were bloodier affairs than expected, as Alaskan landings on other beaches across Panama’s Pacific coast tipped off the city’s defense force. Hugo Varela, the Panamanian president managed to escape the city before the Alaskans could truly land in force, and was helicoptered off into the Californian controlled Canal Zone.

Though they fought valiantly, the Panamanian defenders were wildly outnumbered by the Alaskan soldiers, who cut through the jungle with relative ease, and captured the southern part of the nation in its entirety. The advance however stalled, at the marked line between the Californian Canal Zone and what had been Panama. With orders from the higher-ups in both nations being rather indecisive, Alaskan and Californian soldiers stared at each other across the border, with guns at the ready. Pot-shots are night weren’t uncommon, with several Alaskan and Californian soldiers feeling the effect of the tension. Extra Californian forces were shipped in, and are expected to do their best to maintain any Alaskan offensive, should one occur.

Sale of Arctic Islands
Iqaluit, Quebec

For a relatively cheap price, Quebec managed to buy off the previously Russian islands, along with the English colonies in the Canadian Arctic Island archipelago. Quebec had been eying the entirety of Baffin Island for quite a few decades, and when Bernard Géroux received a message with an offer to buy the entirety of the English possessions, he practically jumped at the chance. Before the end of the year came, the deal was finalized, and English transport ships took away what few citizens were actually present in the islands. Quebec meanwhile, has solidified its status as an Arctic nation, with a viable opinion when it comes to Arctic matters.

With the continuation of the Sagamie-Nord Métamorphose project, the new lands have already received a lot of attention from Quebecois economists and industrialists.

Many Quebecois view this as a good first move in what is expected to be a long ‘reign’ by Géroux. But with moves like this, you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone complaining.

The Mexican Civil War
Mexico City, Mexico

A surprise offensive by the Hudsonist rebels in Northern Mexico left the Imperial Mexican forces unable to effectively counter the growing offensive, with the war front moving further and further south towards the capitol for the first time in the war. By the time the Hudsonist rebels were within three-hundred miles of the capitol, a rally by the Imperial Army gave Emperor Juan enough time to garner international capital and supplies so that an effective defense of Central Mexico could be made. This all being despite the Socialist Parliament in Mexico fighting the Emperor at every step possible. It soon became so bad that the Emperor found himself in a position where the need to abolish the Parliament was fairly clear, if he wished to continue running an effective war. The abolishment, while met with criticism, was understood to be a necessary evil by large segments of the loyal Imperial population, who viewed the parliament as little more than a proxy for Californian rule.

Regardless, those who viewed the parliament as being the first step towards a true democracy found themselves aligning more and more to the Hudsonist camp, with many moving towards the Hudsonists lines, to help overthrow the Emperor. It also seemed to be the cue that California was waiting for, as obvious support began pouring into the Hudsonist camp, with actual Californian regiments taking place in the fighting. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back, as the sight of many true Californian soldiers sent what Imperial forces remained reeling into a retreat, or outright surrender. A small corridor existed between Vera Cruz and Mexico City, as international supplies continued to help the Imperial Army. This too, however, was severed by the joint Mexican and Californian forces, and the death of the Republic became obvious. After several days of hard fighting, the Hudsonists managed to take what was left of Mexico City, with Emperor Juan being captured and summarily shot by the Mexican Hudsonists, despite Californian demands that he be brought to justice in a ‘less barbaric’ manner. A mass exodus of Mexican citizens fearing the new regime also tried to make it into the Yucatan, who was fairly hesitant to accept the refugees, on account of the class problems they were already experiencing.

Rocket Launch In Dixie!
Miami, The Dixie Republic

While the Mesopotamian landing on the moon had managed to get most of the world’s media attention, if you lived in the Dixie Republic, your focus would lay within your own space program, which had very successfully launched a manned rocket into the Earth’s orbit, becoming the second nation since the ‘old-times’ to do so, besides Mesopotamia. The incredibly handsome crew found themselves to be teenage heart-throbs overnight, with a wide variety of media supporting their likenesses, from posters to lunch-boxes. While the hope that a Dixie national would be the first to re-walk on the moon is dashed, the fact they were so close is something to be proud of in itself.

The Missouri Compromise of 2180 Under Review
St. Louis, The United States of the Atlantic

Next year, both the United States of the Atlantic and the Dixie Republic must send delegates to review the Missouri Compromise of 2180, which established the border between the two nations in Missouri on the Missouri river, while giving the United States of the Atlantic the entirety of the city of St. Louis and the surrounding area. That partition is the point coming under review, as approved by delegates from both nations 25 years. So far, the affair has been more of a sudden occurrence, with both sides not really taking any steps towards resolving who gets St. Louis and the surrounding area indefinitely. Minute men militia groups from the Atlantic States have threatened to do hold the city ‘at all costs’ while some Dixie activists are hoping that the government will fix get them the city, which, they view as being stolen from them. Many are interested in going toe-to-toe with the ultra-nationalists with the aim of achieving the annexation of St. Louis.

Where this meeting will take place hasn’t been worked out, and neither has the time or date.

A Brazilian made dam burst surprisingly this year in Guyana, killing several hundred people who lived beneath it, while destroying a large amount of property. The real cause for the burst is unknown as of now, with the Guyanese government claiming it was faulty Brazilian design, while the Brazilian government has cited improper management of the dam. Calls from Guyana for reparations have fallen on deaf ears, though they are fairly powerless in terms of ability to force Brazil into dealing.

Franco-Germanic Civil War
Paris, The French Liberation Front

While the rest of Europe celebrated peace after the War of Scandinavian Unification, the Franco-Germanic Empire continued to suffer alone in a growing civil war. After almost 100 years, the various oppressed ethnic and cultural groups within the Franco-Germanic Empire saw the opportunity for freedom, and took the initiative, with more than a little prying from the occupying North Sea forces. Frenchmen under the rule of what they viewed to be a very ‘German’ Empire were the first to rise up, with large amounts of direct support coming from the North Sea forces as they advanced south toward Paris. As the successes continued, the momentum grew, and even after the North Sea military’s left continental Europe, the revolution remained in full swing. Even more volunteers began joining the ranks of the French Liberation Front forces, with the taste freedom so close. Yet, the end of the War of Scandinavian Unification also allowed for German military units initially pressed with withholding English advances down the Rhine to move into the rebelling areas. But keeping true to their promises, the government of Occitania formally declared war upon the Reich and launched a massive assault pushing into what had been France. Several pitched battles occurred, in which ‘the spirit of Jeanne d'Arc' seemed to guide the Occitanians to smashing victories.

But the Occitanians also had more than just the Maiden from Orleans to thank. Marginilized Magistric Catholics began revolting in Italy, in the hopes that they could join an expanded Vatican. Pope Magistris I has given no word on the issue, though the Vatican hasn't rule out the possibility that they'd be willing to expand their domain. Italians based out of Taranto also staged smaller local coups in Franco-Germanic military posts, as Italian rebels struck out at unsuspecting German soldiers. Requests for Padanian assistance fell on deaf ears, as they refused to aid the ailing Reich with it's 'domestic' issues. King Luigi from Naples called the rebellion quite a 'splendid' ordeal, as his plans for an eventually united Italy seems all the more possible, if the Germans could be evicted from the peninsula.

The civil war has caused quite a few economic issues in the Reich, with attempted rebuilding efforts stalled due to the increased military action. Irish investments have been notably large, yet given no return because of the fighting.

Spanish Unionists in Andalusia
Granada, Andalusia

Talks of political union with the Kingdom of Spain have once again arisen in Andalusia. After some serious discussion about such unification 10 years ago, the thought had all but disappeared. But a Spanish cultural blitz and increased reliance on the state seems to make a union between the two nations make much more sense. After all, Andalusia is still almost culturally identical to Spain, and many of the residents still view themselves as being Spanish.
The Iberian Unionist Party was founded in Madrid this year, with chapters opening up in Andalusia and Portugal. While the Portuguese chapters are for better or worse non-entities in Portuguese politics as a whole, the ones in Andalusia have actually picked up quite a lot of steam, with some reports claiming that membership has grown to over 40,000 within the span of a few weeks.

England's Post-War Dream
Liverpool, England

Fearful of a post-war recession, the English government has made strides to make sure that their veterans can come home to a life better than the one they left behind. The first step in this direction was the Veterans Education Act, which has been noted as being similar to the old American GI bill after World War 2. Hoping to gain a well-educated workforce, the Act encouraged veterans to attend a university, or some type of skill school, by making the rates cheaper, and generally more affordable.

Significant amounts of capital were also put into English industry, which was received quite a large amount of government funding before the war. Promises of new programs and actual investments have helped England avoid the recession it feared, at least for now.

Basque Elections
Bilbao, The Basque Republic

It was an election year in the Basque Republic, which made the attempts of the Iberian Union Party to establish a support base even more interesting. The Basques, who have proven to be fairly anti-Spanish the past few decades have all put banned the IUP from electing any type of officials in the election. That is assuming, of course, that the IUP would be able to gather enough support for such a move. The president elect of the republic, Iñaki Urkullu had publically claimed that any notion of union with Spain, or any other nation is ridiculous, and that he would 'rather die, then see such a mistake'. He plans on moving the Basque Republic further away from Spain through any means possible, and has even made an inquiry into the Iron Pact about possible membership, though it could also just be more of a political move on his part.

Russian Revolt Continues
Smolensk, Chernorussiya

The Russian revolt against Chernorussiya continued this year, albeit with a smaller amount of determined warriors than last year. The Chernorussiyans, while outnumbered, maintained a heavily barrage of drone attacks and special forces raids against Russian rebels, and used the highly advanced GLOSNASS global positioning system to better coordinate its forces in the fighting. Russian general Kustodiev is still believed to be alive, though his forces are even more scattered than before.

Though the fighting has dropped by a bit, the movement still threatens the complete control of Northern Asia by Chernorussiya, with many Russians hoping for some sort of international support. Random loyalty tests have also made it difficult for Russian sympathizers to organize themselves in any meaningful manner, and many experts are placing the ending date of the revolt to come within the next 2 years at best.

Meanwhile, Chernorussiyan attempts at rebuilding have been successful by and large, with new hospitals and schools being built throughout the region, and damaged infrastructure previously built being either fixed or upgraded completely. The fighting has prevented very much trade, or direct gains from being netted by the Chernorussiyans, but the Russian people have taken notice of the attempted olive branch.

Norway Already Ready For Integration
Oslo, The United Commonwealth of Scandinavia

Just a short while after conquest, the entirety of Norway has been given the essential green-light to go ahead and be given representation in the Scandinavian congress, analysts say. Norway has exhibited some of the prime examples of a truly 'subdued' region, and as for why it has happened to quickly, few can guess. The sense of a return to some form of normalcy has to play some part in it, but other than that, it's anyone’s guess. Representatives from some Norwegian political subdivisions have already apparently entered Copenhagen in the hopes of lobbying Emperor Henric III into allowing them more directly entry into the Commonwealth. Assuming such an action was to occur, Finland would remain the only region not officially represented in the new Scandinavian congress.

Scottish Elections
Glasgow, Scotland

The British Unionist party, mirroring their Iberian brothers to the south, managed to gain quite a bit of political power this year, with the growth of English power and industrialization beckoning the nation more and more towards some form of a political union with England that harkens memories of the old United Kingdom. The British Unionist Party has actually gained enough seats in the Scottish Parliament to push forward a very obviously pro-English agenda, with a lowering of tariffs between the two nations being first and foremost, followed closely by increased integration of industrial sectors and closer military activity.

The historical connections between the two nations have also been a recurring theme in the rhetoric the party has been throwing around, and as more Scottish veterans come home from the fighting in France, the fond memories of their English allies have also encouraged British Unionist support.

Discontent in Poland
Warsaw, Poland

The Treaty of La Haya had a lot of holes in it, with two of the most prominent being the complete exclusion of the French Liberation Front from the text, and the fact that Poland was all but ignored in the final draft of the treaty. Poland, who had been a key nation in the Coalition Against Norse Aggression had managed to conquer the entirety of Pomerania, with a fairly large amount of casualties. Having to return the entirety of Pomerania to the UCS without so much as a single reparation being given to the Polish state from the Coalition, or its North Sea counterparts has led to wide-spread discontent among the Polish public. Many viewed the entirety of the war as having no real point to it, and Poland gained absolutely nothing from the 'fair' peace treaty the Spanish had been pushing.

Questions have arisen in different political groups as to the validity of the Polish involvement in the actual war, and whether or not King Wojciech had any legal right to dedicate the Polish military to the fighting without the consent of the Democratic Council. Reports of threats against the Polish monarch, and specific members of the Democratic Council have been published in many major papers throughout Poland, as many seek to uncover the truth behind what many have begun calling 'the Great Lie'.

Galician Elections
Lviv, Galicia

The Socialist Party of Galicia managed to win the majority of seats in the Galician Congress, with the promise for education reform essentially winning the election for them. The old, decrepit education system has been under constant criticism, with many Galician children failing to get an education of any type of comparison to those received in Kiev. The new model is supposed directly based off of other successful models, such as that from Kiev, and new schools to accommodate the changes have already began being built.

Economic Gains in Naples
Naples, Naples

With the Tripolitan War two years over, Neapolitan investments in both Sardinia and Sicily have led to some rather large economic returns this year, giving King Luigi an almost God-like stance among his people. Many had thought that Luigi had swapped his country’s economic future for the sake of gaining control of the cultural legacy that had been Italy, but now those critics have largely been silenced, as an economic miracle has led to a large growth of jobs and industry in the Italian nation.

Refugees No More
Kiev, Republic of Kiev

During the Great Russian War, many Russians escaped into the Republic of Kiev to avoid the fighting and destruction that occurred across the vast expanse of land that had been the Russian Republic of Russia. These refugees had found a home in camps outside of Poltava, and despite initial thoughts that many would return home after the war, it has been made clear that they would rather make a new life in Kiev, then return to Chernorussiya. And after two years of what had been relative squatting, the Kievan government was happy to assist in the transformation into official Kievan citizens, offering lower citizenship demands of the refugees, than normal immigrants. Many thousand Russians have eagerly joined the work force, and Kiev is already seeing some extra bonuses.

Spanish-Moroccan War
El Jadida, the Kingdom of Spain

The Spanish Moroccan War, if it could be called that, continued for a few weeks this year, but was quickly locked up at a clear Spanish victory. The complete blockade of the Moroccan coast and the Spanish control of the sky meant starvation for most Moroccans, who had already essentially given up all hope of fighting off the Spanish invader with the signing of the Treaty of La Haya. The mostly cleaning up action ended by spring, and Moroccan Emperor Mohammed Fassi was captured by a Spanish armored brigade, and was sent back to Spain, where he is awaiting trial by a Spanish War Tribunal.

On his flight into Spain, Fassi signed a peace treaty, which ceded the entirety of Morocco to Spain, unconditionally, and the Moroccan people had little choice but to go with it. Reports from Spanish army units say that political prisoner camps have been found within some of the sparsely populated regions of the Sahara, and evidence seems to point to the fact that Fassi had been systematically ostracizing and killing political enemies, or anyone he deemed to be a threat to the state, which seemed to have some very generalized criteria. This evidence will assuredly weigh in heavily on Spanish minds, as Fassi's trial is scheduled to begin next year.

Meanwhile, projects with the goal of closer uniting the new region with Spain have begun in earnest.

Irish Economic Rule
Mao, Union of Chad

Continued Irish investment and military action in the new Union of Chad and Confederation of Niger have greatly aided in the stabilization of the region. Irish forces have done such a clean-cut job in ridding the organized militias fighting the centralized government powers from their camps that Irish soldiers have already began to return home, with much fewer losses than expected. And the safer the countries are as a whole, has allowed for greater and safer overall investments in the nations by Ireland. All 3 parties seem to be profiting off of the relationship, and many Nigeriens and Chadians view Ireland as a saving grace.

Nigerian Re-education Continues
Abuja, Grand Senegambia

The re-education of the Nigerian people has continued in full this year, with greater degrees of efficiency than what had been experienced last year. Senegambian teachers and authorities have been closely monitoring the situation, and improving the system so thoroughly that re-education, and loyalty success rates have gone up by a large margin since last year. While many suspect that the Nigerians are merely faking the whole thing, work is at least being done and fake or not, a working citizen is a working citizen.

The Norse Church's Burden
Mayumba, The United Commonwealth of Scandinavia

The first boats from the UCS that appeared off the coast of the Scandinavian Congo after the War of Scandinavian Unification carried more than just soldiers of occupation. Hundreds of excited Nordist missionaries came to the colony to spread the word of the Norse Church to the 'uncivilized' Congolese who reside in the colony. The Congolese have taken up the nickname of 'Tomt Kärl', or 'empty vessel' from the Nordists, as the beliefs of the Church have been forced down the throats of those who find themselves to be within the reach of any of the missionaries.

Emigrants from UCS have been encouraged to come and take up a stake in the colony, with more missionaries making the voyage to the colony, in the hopes of converting one of the 'savages' to more proper ways.

The Horn of Africa Is Taken!
Mogadishu, Somalian Islamists Alliance

Funds from like-minded Islamic nations have been given to the Somalian Islamists Alliance, along with a couple thousand more weapons, and even a few more warm bodies. The increased aid was all the SIA needed to break what resistance the Somaliland government could manage to throw at it, and SIA forces found themselves planning attacks on Mogadishu from Eyl by the spring. And by the summer, attacks against remaining Somalian forces in Nairobi were being planned from Mogadishu. The war had been fought for several years, yet not a single nation had offered any aid to the beleaguered nations of Somalia and Somaliland, and now the Horn of Africa is in the hands of an Islamist nation.

Representatives from Somalia are meeting in the old capitol of Mogadishu to discuss peace terms next year.

Peace in Eritrea
Asmara, Eritrea

Sudanese militias have finally accepted Asmara's rule this year, after a series of well-organized military campaigns by the Eritrean military. The peace agreement was made, in a hope to forego future militia movements, with the regions the militias originally had under control being allowed local rule, so long as they ascend to Asmara's rule if the certain situations arise. Government funding, however small has begun to trickle in to the regions, and the militias have been promised the ability to police themselves. Critics of the move claim that this just gives the militias a free-hand in building up forces for a counter attack in future years, but it seems to be a risk that Eritrea is willing to take.

Aggressive Expansion In South Africa
Lusaka, England

The English military, now free to use its military in its preferred colonial endeavors, sent large numbers of soldiers into Africa to claim the final bits of land left alone by the nation-states around it. English regiments and armored units moved through the land, and by proclamation declared rule over anyone who was within earshot. The people of the land, long impoverished and forgotten by the world couldn't do much but let it happen, with most of the warlords in the region being dutifully taken care of by English fire power. Reports later appeared suggesting that the Congolese and East African militaries have been fighting off the militias for the past few years, thus the simplicity of the English take over. The large amounts of land, while pretty on the map don't necessarily have very much economic viability as of yet, and have proven to be more of a liability than anything.

The Horde Diversity Act
Karamy, The People's Republic of Mongolia

Peace has been made, after the fairly quick East Turkic-Mongolian War, and the People's Republic of Mongolia found themselves governing a rather large, ethnically diverse portion of land, with an already small, stretched out military. The Mongolian government has begun what is essentially a recruitment drive, in the hopes of attracting some East Turkic and Uygur volunteers into the People's military. The drive has so far been relatively successful, with a few thousand volunteers stepping forwards, in the hopes of making some sort of decent pay, or getting out of the areas they're stuck in, but more ironically, a large number of volunteers are coming from the fringe western regions of China, where a growing Communist movement has made Mongolia a popular destination.

Chinese Communist Usurpers
Yumen, The Chinese Empire

Propaganda has begun to spread across western China, citing the corruption that capitalism has brought to the nation. Wild claims, hard to prove, yet harder to disprove have been a prevalent fixture on these propaganda pamphlets, though the obviously pro-Communist stance has attracted the attention of both those reading the pamphlets, and those trying to stop the production of them. The brush fire, if you could call it that, has begun, and protestors against the loss of industrial jobs to other member nations of the UUPSCPA have been reportedly rooting for a return to a People's Republic, and officials from Beijing are struggling to find the correct way of dealing with this recent rise in Communist detractors.

Siber Protests
Bratsk, The Siber Confederacy

The ineptitude of the Siber Confederacy has continued to show this year, as food shortages began occurring in the northern half of the nation. After a few weeks of relative starvation, food shipments from Chernorussiya via the Maglev railroad managed to make it to the communities almost just on time, and certainly embarrassed the weakened government in Tomsk. Delegates from the northern communities seem to of had it with the weak government out of Tomsk, and seem to be looking towards some form of annexation by Chernorussiya as being less of a bad thing, and more of a necessity.

Japanese Auto-Industry
Osaka, The Japanese Empire

In a broad move, the Japanese government has begun subsidizing Japanese car companies in an effort to mimic the success that Japan had in the auto industry 200 years ago. The government funds have allowed for a large number of almost bankrupt auto-makers to begin producing vehicles again, and large shipments of Japanese cars have already began making their way around the UUPSCPA.

All Hail Emperor Hisahito!
Tokyo, The Japanese Empire

The cult of personality that has begun to grow around Japanese Emperor Hisahito has continued this year, with his name and presence being felt across various media outlets, and an almost mythical spirit engulfing him. With that, his word and opinions weigh heavily upon any loyal Japanese citizen and his word this year is fairly clear: Mongolians are evil. Whether or not this is just another step in his crusade against Communism, or a general personal dislike the Mongolians is unknown. But when Emperor Hisahito says it, it must be true. Mongolia has responded by telling its people that the Japanese Blood-Quest has awoken once more, and a similar fervor soon developed by followers of Khan Altai.

The Fars War
Tabriz, Kurdistan

The Holy Army of Persia continued to batter Kurdish forces this year, with a renewed fervor. Reinforcement regiments from the Emirate in Bokhara have made themselves obvious on the field of battle, and the war is becoming more of a Jihad against the concept of Liberalized Islam. As the Kurdish army, or what remains of it gathers in a tight defensive ring around Tabriz, many international spectators are considering it to be a complete Persian victory, as absolutely no foreign help seems to be going towards the Kurds. Despite that, the Kurdish government remains steadfast, and has been lobbying the international community for more aid, though if trends hold, that aid is non-existent. Mesopotamia has been eerily quiet about the entire situation, considering that the Holy Army is now less than 100 miles away from its capitol in Baghdad.

Turkey Attacks The Hellenistic Empire!
Ordu, Turkey

Two years of rebellion has led to Turkey directly aiding the Hellenistic Turks that had besieged the port city. A diplomatic breakdown last year almost cemented the fact that the two countries were going to war. Oddly enough, however, the Hellenistic Empire was not prepared for the attack in the least bit, being taken very off guard by the barrage of both Turkish planes and armored brigades that rolled in, to aid the rebels. Ordu fell after a relatively short battle, when it became obvious that all the Turkish rebels needed was some fire power and encouragement. A duel assault was also directed towards the Bosporus, in the hopes that a victory there, so close to Constantinople, would drive the Hellenistic’s to a quick and easy peace. But a rally by the Imperial Armored Corp stopped the Turkish assault miles from the straits, while the superior Hellenistic navy marauded the Turkish coast. Yet, by mid-year, both sides seemed at a loss as to what to do next. Calls from General Abdullah Gökçek for a Turkish revolution have been fairly unfruitful, though then again, the Hellenistic Empire has proven itself to be quite good at crushing ethnic revolts.

Islamist Coup In Sumatra
Jakarta, The Revolutionary State of Sumatra

A quick but bloody coup occurred in Sumatra this year, as Islamist revolutionaries seized the capitol of Jakarta. For the past two years, the entire nation of Sumatra has been struggling to rebuild after a particularly harmful series of storms that struck many nations in the Indian Ocean. Sumatra, being one of the hardest hit, received very little aid from any nation whatsoever, and were woefully unprepared to handle a natural disaster of that size. Government corruption, and supposed hoarding of materials and supplies led to a growing movement among the people to establish a truly honest, Islamic government in power. Fauzi Ali led the forces, and established himself as the temporary 'Generalissimo' of the island nation, until a more appropriate government can be put in place. His first order of business was to remove Sumatra from both the UUPSMSA and the UUPSCPA, and expel all non-approved foreign nationals from the nation.

Noted Japanese Reporter Taken To Ryukyu Prison Camp
Amami, The Japanese Empire

Takayoshi Tojiki, a noted reporter from the Tokyo Daily Paper, and a critic of the recent government policy of shipping Communist sympathizers to camps in the Ryukyu islands found himself arrested, detained, accused of supporting Communism, and shipped off to a camp, after a particularly scathing article written about policy was written and published this year. While response from the Japanese government and people have been non-existent at best, criticism of the arrest has been very loud in many East Asian and Oceanic nations, with some even comparing it to a tactic used by a Communist Totalitarian dictator. The sympathy that Japan had gained last year, with the death of the Emperor and the assassination attempt has quickly seems to of left as quickly as it appeared.

Death in the Grand Papua
Port Moseby, Grand Papua

Papauan King Jusuf Abal I died in his sleep this summer, leaving his son Jusuf Abal II to accede to the throne. Abal I made his country a very powerful, yet isolated fixture in the politics of Southeast Asia and Oceania, and have left fairly large shoes for his son to fill. Thus far, Abal II has continued to support the ideals of his father’s relative isolationism, though has made references to wanting to maintain peace in Oceania, especially in regards to the ever growing tensions between South Island and the Pacific Commonwealth. His ability to do so, however, is something else entirely.

Tensions Continue To Rise
Christchurch, South Island

Tensions have continued to rise between the 'Southers' in South Island, and the Pacific Commonwealth. Relations between the two nations have taken a turn for the worst in recent years, and this year seems to be no exception, as several South Island nationals were caught in Port VIlla with the apparent intention of staging some sort of terror plot. The national's hotel was raided by the Port Villa Police Department, and documents containing references to such an attack, and even detailed plans were evidentially found, though the South Island government is calling foul, as to why their national's apartment was illegally (or so they say) raided in the middle of the night, with no reason given. Adam Key has been very staunch in his support for the freedom of the South Islander, claiming that the Pacific Commonwealth's only evidence that such a plot was planned was illegally obtained, and circumstantial.

THE "HUMAN INTEREST MAGAZINE" PERSON OF THE YEAR
Spoiler :

Description
Comrade Hudson
-written by John Artlack

No other person has been as internationally polarizing as Comrade Hudson from the Californian Union. Hated by many internationally, and beloved by many closer to home, Comrade Hudson has proven herself to not only be gutsy and intelligent, but a charismatic leader that made California not only a world player, but a world power. Her economy (among other things) is the largest in the world, and she has used that (among other things) to secure Californian quite the position of power in North America. Her special brand of Communism, Hudsonism has spread across North America, and it's influence has even been felt in as far off places as Eastern Europe.

Comrade Hudson has the fate of not just California in her hands this year, but that of North America. She has more than a few massive decisions to make this year that could cause the death or success of millions.

RUNNER UPS

2. Prime Minister Bernard Géroux of Quebec
He has taken the Quebecois industry and economy, and revamped it, in a matter of years. And that was before he was Prime Minister. Quebec is a dark-horse in world affairs. Perhaps with the help of Géroux some lights will be turned on.

3. The Norse Church
Short of the military, no other force has helped spread Nordism more than the Norse Church. Northumbria, the Dutch Republic and more than a few people in Eastern Europe and Africa have dedicated their lives to the Norse Church, and through an odd extension, Scandinavia itself.

4. Cosmonauts Endrew Dinije and Danillo Ahmet
Few (actually, no one) have had the ability to distinguish themselves as the Muslim Buzz Aldren and Neil Armstrong until now. In a single action, many have hailed them, not just as Mesopotamian heroes, but international heroes.

7. King Alfonso XII, The Kingdom of Spain
8. Sükhbaataryn Altai Khan, The People's Republic of Mongolia

Everyone: For better or worse, my trip this week has been cancelled, so expect to have an update around Easter. Also, keep the stories coming, I like it. And sorry for the delay, I blame a mixture of late orders, and my social life. Stats are coming soon. And for this next update, a hard deadline will appear much quicker than last time.

Seon hasn’t sent orders, or posted, for two updates now. The United States of the Atlantic is now open, and I will handle all diplomacy.

arya126: You said you wanted the canal to fall into Alaskan demands after you captured the Panamian leader. Aside from the fact you didn't capture the leader, the canal is in Californian hands. Even had you captured the actual president of Panama, he would be relatively powerless in taking the canal from California.

merciary: I made Longbow cost 15, though that price might lower a bit if you can describe to me in a little more detail with what you hope to do with it.

germanicus12: Your infrastructure project was a bit too large to be covered by the EP you delegated to it, so I had your people focus on building the railroads, so you can get returns this year. If you invest more money, you can get more returns for the harbors, and such.

DarthNader: You've milked the Sagamie-Nord Métamorphose relatively dry. The lands you have now are pretty much covered, so short of expanding and getting more lands, I'd recommend against investing in it again, at least with such a large amount of capital.

Kozmos: I have to question some of the technology you've put forward, in reference to the ПгС particularly. If you want this to happen, I have to say that not everyone will be afforded it, as you said in your orders. I have to be fairly vague here, so send me a PM for further elaboration at some point.

Lovely jubbly update. Glad to see the world hasnt gone completely tits up yet. Making that PM.

The California Union has hereby decided that, with their restoration of the government by the people for the people, the former SAZ of Sonora will hereby be reunited with Mexico. Glory to the Revolution

Beautiful as always, Liz. I hope the consistent praise for your updates doesn't reap diminishing returns for compliments!

Glad you enjoyed it Dread ;) I prefer praise over complaints.

The stats should be updated, but I'm having a rather off day, so double check and make sure that they're correct for me. In the meantime, I'll be updating the front page a bit more.

Also, I've updated the front stories section. I'm looking to get orders by this next Thursday or Friday coming up, so I can hopefully update by or on Easter.

Looking forward to some diplomacy!

And be on the look out for some players that may want to join up. I have a lot of empty nations, many of which have some serious potential and/or interesting back stories.

The Hudsonist Republic of Mexico accepts the wonderful Californian proposal.

Updated all aspects of the front page, please check for faulty information, or forgotten information. Specifically the Space Program section.

To: Republic of Occitania
From: Kingdom of Spain

Please, cease in your attempts to destroy the French-led Franco-Germanic Empire, or we will be forced to intervene.

To: Basque Republic
From: Kingdom of Spain

To this day, we have yet to understand what has warranted so much hatred from the Basque government towards Spain. As far as we can recall, at no time in the democratic history of Spain has any Basque have to fear about Spain.

Did we harm you? No. In fact, we healed you.

Did we take things from you? No. In fact, we brought things to you.

Did we, perhaps, showed animosity towards you? No, and in fact we welcomed you as equals within Spain. The only animosity was shown towards those that used your foolish desire to be separated from Spain, a desire based on a mythological past that never existed, as an excuse to kill, maim and destroy the lives of the innocent.

Why won't you contemplate the possibility of returning to Spain? You would be stronger within Spain than what you would be on your own. If you join the Iron Pact, you would be submitted to the desires of the Norse tyrant, but, if you became part of Spain, you would have an equal voice in the running of the Spanish nation.

If the King thought it would help to make Spain strong once more, he would readily abdicate for the formation of a republic, that great is his love for the Spanish nation and its people.

For the good of all the great people of the Iberian Peninsula, we want to ask you, why? Why so much hatred for those that are good with and for you? Why so unwilling to rejoin your mother country? Why?

It is quite sad that you prefer being small and inconsequential rather than being part of a great nation.

To: Andalusia, Portugal
From: Kingdom of Spain

This is but the first stepping stone towards the reunification of all of Iberia under one flag, where all people are equal and have nothing to fear from each other! Let all Iberian people advance together, joined by their hands and their hearts, towards a greater future!

EDIT: I should have 1 Satellite!
