TerraNES: The Civil Experiment

Still working on Vahlshallah and Valyria, will make posts on the Faith and the belief eventually.

A hundred weddings

Let us begin with the story of this begins. It begins in Thebes where god-king Rezzemus the New Word of Thebes sends many messengers far into the hostile north. It was an amazing feat in itself to arrange such a messenger exodus from Thebes.

Each messenger carried a single papyrus scroll requesting the receiver for a daughter to marry. Rezzemus had a need to gather more wives, and he had a large family looking for fine strong wives. What could be better than uniting the Libyan tribes and in the way stabilizing the royal family? And let us not forgot of the wives Rezzemus the New World of Thebes could add to his Harmon.

The road to Libya was hard but each messenger arrived at a tribe. The tribal chiefs answered the messages and sent a daughter south to Thebes, to marry an Egyptian Elite member, and some of the highest chiefs have been chosen to marry their daughter to royalty, to king Rezzemus himself.

In Thebes the preparations were going hastily. Priests from all corners of Egypt arrived. One priest arrived to honor each of the numerous Egyptian gods. All of the omens were collected and the presents of the King were all collected in a huge specially built structure. Thousands arrived from all corners of Egypt, some diplomats arrived from as far as Axume, rich traders were allowed in the wedding as well. The entire peasantry stood outside the walls of the wedding mansion.

The wives begun to enter the mansion after a month since the messengers went out. Each went to a small room made especially for her in the passing few months. The ceremony was soon to begin, as the priests of Osiris prepared the cursing of Dameitta ceremony at the bedside of the Nile, right at the center of the wedding mansion.

The ceremony went quickly, a snake's head was taken and a few words of magic were spoken. The high priest of Osiris drank the Snake's blood and spit it in a bowl, later thrown into the Nile. 10 snakes were each beheaded as lower Osiris priests were each given a cup of their blood to do the same. At the end of the first ceremony the god-king himself arrived and beheaded a snake by himself. The cursing was done and now the wedding could begin.

The first week went on as nearly half the wives were married to different husbands of the royal family, some were wed to rich merchants who paid the god-king to be included, and such huge honor can be gained from such a feat after all.

The next month most of the other wives were wed to very high ranking generals and elites, as well as to close family members of the god-king himself. In the last few wedding the king himself joined the priests and honored the wedding with his presence.

Than came the second month. From now the celebrations would go on for an entire year. The king wed ten new wives and each of the months in the rest of the year he spent only with that wife alone in a room while the entire court of the king was celebrating his weddings. Each wife was quickly impregnated and at the end of the year the god-king promised himself ten new children.

Yet he was still haunted by the terrible vision he had. His heir, his first born son, would have to be killed for Egypt to be united. Or so the god-king believed. He had to delay his trip to Benei-Hasan for the weddings and the unification of Libya and Egypt. Now he took on his horse, and rode north. Benei Hasan was still waiting…

What is the design of everyone's flag and emblem? I'm curious to know, since it has been bugging me for awhile now... feel free to say or contribute.

lol, and it isn't even as if I don't at least own photoshop, but screw that, I'm doing it in Paint and I'm going to pretend that the poorly copy/pasted outlines of the stars work as "texturing."

Sadly, in the Levantine League the Council does not have the power to establish a national flag, that falls strictly to the Administrator, and so those of you who concern yourself greatly with how pretty the national banners of foreign states are subject to my whims on the matter.

And, after I got the first six stars on there and they were all even looking I realized there were 12 Gods in the Kitabalist Pantheon.

The circle often seen around this symbol signifies the infinite and eternity. It also represents protection.

Flag of the Republic

ctesiphodflag.png

The Flag of the Republic [of Ctesiphod] is said to be one of the more complex flags known to Valyria. It is said that this is to reflect the government and people of the Republic versus that of other nations and kingdoms. In the Republic, the people rule, via the Rumen and the Vox Populi.

The flag of the Republic of Ctesiphod can be fairly simpily explained, however. The Black and red star at the center of a white and black background is the symbol of Ctesiphod, the founding city of the Republic, the place from which rumenholds come. The Flag of Ctesiphod sits on a background of red, which is the Ctesiphodite color, surrounded by spiraling ropes of white an grey, which represent the people's hold on the Government, and their immovability once they are intertwined, connected, and solid. The black on the border of the flag represents the non-Republic world, slowly shrinking back away from the powerful Republican ideals.

Good god(s) its 2500 BCE, the closest thing Etassians/Aramyans have to a banner is this strange three orbed symbol we sometimes carve on the side of buildings as graffiti public art. You Mediterraneans know something about textiles we Leveans don't?

Well, we Hyakkids have a symbol that is the fist of Takarzi, but it is carved into stone and clay rather than embroidered onto some banner.

Incidentally, if the Fist of Takarzi is to be portrayed on fabric, it is to be done by wrapping white cloth over a blood-soaked hand, then unfolding it and leaving it in the winds to dry.

Here is the flag of Vahlshallah; Valyria's was a thirteen pointed star for each of the gods, but we changed that.

The Heir's Heart

Finally. Benei-Hasan. It has been weeks since we left Thebes, but finally I can attend the complex for my question.

The God-King was surrounded by his royal guard, he was not a loved character in Benei-Hasan that not so long ago fell to his conquest after a mountain of human bodies blocked the river and allowed his forces to march into the starving city. The people seemed normal, their every day business have returned mostly to normal. The Royal family that once ruled Benei-Hasan was eradicated from the world, all of them were killed, even to the last tiny baby. Yet the God-king did not have it in him to also kill and murder through the temples, he allowed the priests of Anuket free reign over the religion business of the city, he allowed things to continue smoothly even without the false kings of Benei-Hasan. He put a governor of his own family at the head of the city and did not attend it for a long time.

The temple complex to Anuket was not as large as others he had seen. The God-king could finally see what the goddess would not be so happy with him. The Complex to Osiris back on Thebes was perhaps ten times as large, and at least three times as high. It was truly a humongous feat. Yet this one was much smaller. It was standing right next to the Nile and part of the Temple was actually built into the Nile. That is where the priests dealt with everyday praying and blessings to Anuket. The God-king informed the priests he would come some time before, they must have prepared by now. He entered the temple with his soldiers, and called to the high-priest, several other lesser priests quickly went away to fetch for him.

"High-Priest of the great Anuket I have an omen I need your aid to understand."
"I have been told my greatness. I will right away fetch the materials for the spell we require. Please wait in the grand room of Anuket's statue, stand in the center of the circle, I will be right there."

The God-King followed the high-priest's orders and sat in the circle waiting for the priest.

It did not take the high-priest long and he, and other 2 priests quickly arrived at the room with a small wooden table, a cup, and some sort of strange liquid. The High-king looked at the high-priest and awaited him to speak. The 3 priests stood around the king, 2 at each side and one behind. The High-priest was to his left. "Now we will circle you several times, each time one of us stops in front of you must take whatever he has offered you. First you will take the table to your right, which you will put on the floor. Second you will take the blue-colored cup and put it at the center of the table, on the signature of Anuket. Third you will take the blessed water of the Nile, which you will fill the cup with until the water spills on the sides, than the two priests will circle you faster, while I will go and light on several incenses. You are to sit in front of the table, drink from the water and mediate. Call for Anuket in the usual spell, and she will come to you, from the statue.

The God-king did as commanded. The three priests circled around him and he could already feel the spell taking hold of him. The first priest, the one that was on his left at the beginning, stood in front of him and offered him the table. The God-king thanked him and positioned the table right in front of him. The priests again circled around him at a somewhat faster speed. They again stopped and the one that before stoof behind him now stood right in front of him. "Please have this blessed cup for Anuket", the god-king complied, thanked the priest and positioned the cup at the center of the small round table. He begun to feel nervous, what will the solution be? Will he have to kill his first born son to unite Egypt? The priests again circled around him, this time very slowly. A strange smell arrived from outside, the god-king could hear many bird sounds. The High-priest stood in front of him. "Take this water, blessed by Anuket and made cleansed by me." The god-king took the water and thanked the high-priest. The two lesser priests begun to circle him faster and faster while the high-priest left the circle and begun lighting on many incenses located at various spots on the goddess's room. The God-kings filled the cup until all the water emptied from his pottery. The cup was full and water was flowing over the table and the floor. The floor was just a little bent towards the Nile and the water slowly flowed into the Nile on the side of the room, a side with no wall. A bird came in the room and sat on the head of Anuket's statue. All was prepared, the smell of incense filled the air, all that was left was to drink the water and pray, and the god-king quickly did so. He sat on the floor and begun calling for Anoket in his mind.

The god-king could see how everything around him was turning… was turning BLUE! As if he entered the Nile and was under the water! The statue again stood up in front of him, this time the god-king was not even worried.

"Great goddess! Last time we spoke you gave me an horrible omen! You requested my son's heart! I cannot bring myself to kill my son only to unite Egypt. He is my first, my only, and my most important." The god-king begged to the goddess.

"Great God-King of Egypt. Rezzemus of Thebes, The New World of all. Chosen by Osiris and Isis together, blessed by Amon. The first whom even Seth accepted to the throne. Your people have forgotten my words, you have forgotten my blessings. I asked for your son's heart, not for him to die, but for him to study my ways. Bring your heir to this temple, rebuild it in the shape you do onto all the other great gods, and I will teach your heir how to control the Nile. I will teach him my spells and my blessings as well as my curses and hatred. Than send him to invade Damietta, and I will protect him and aid him in the conquest. I will teach him how to build a dam on the Nile to make the flow move away and make it easy for an entire army to march on the Delta and bring those fools under his rule. Make him governor of the entire delta before while you are god-king and once he is god-king he will begin the most required feat of all, the irrigation of the Nile's farmlands!"

As soon as Anoket finished her speaking everything was gone. The god-king scratched his eyes and found he is alone in the room, with only his guards at the doors. The high-priest was not in the room.

Now I understand you Anuket. "Guard! Send a message to Thebes. I want my heir Tother, to come here as soon as possible to study in the temple." The guard instantly left the room. The God-King smiled. Egypt will be united within a few years. The New Empire will reign for ever. All that was left was to find a royal elite wife for his heir, and he could leave to the next world ready.

Damn, and I was making the Flag/Banner contest the next minigame too!

Anyway, this is how I will decide the winner of the minigame, I will have at least 10 criteria, of which I will randomly pick 3. I will pick the top 3 winners of each 3 criteria, and then announce the overall winner.

Critera will be as below, but more developed.
Most Unique (One-of-a-kind, showcasing "different" points of view)
Most Crazy (Simply out of this world and insane)
Most Strange (Not necessarily crazy or unique, just not exactly right in the traditional point of view)
Best Remix (<-if I get the reference)
Best Deconstruction (Like remix, but more like turning a disney princess ending upside down, with happily ever after meaning entirely different from what is expected, or the evil person winning due to breaking more rules, ect)
Most Concise (<- but still gives lots of info)
Best Narrative (See erez and Skilords-connects to their narrative)
Best Fit (Like Narrative, but more having to do with how it fits your developed culture)
Best Stretch (Like Fit, but more about which story advances or developes a culture, instead of just revisiting a culture)
Most Familiar (Complete opposite of first three- which story is the most like "normal", or, to be precise, Asian/American culture)
Most Awesome (Ahhh! My eyes! It's too awesome!)

Remember, I will pick 3 out of random, so just write!

I'd like a PM telling me whether you thought mine fit with or stretched my culture, actually. That's a nice little system imo.

I'll give this marriage stuff my best shot... but it probably will not work well.
