TerraNES: The Civil Experiment

On Jin/Ulyan Chariots

Chariots were brought to the Nanbu Shanqu region by the fleeing Jin horde and the number of Xiong ethnicity soldiers among them. Always having had an eye for the innovative and original, the Dawar admired the fine workmanship of the Xiong chariots as compared to the already existing, but somewhat crude, Arbat variety. It would not be long before Dawar craftsmen and armourers, teamed with the Xiong ethnics, began work on updating the antique chariots to a more modern and effective form.

As is, chariots are the sole reserve of the Xiong. In future, however, as chariots become commonplace, Jin-Dawar generals are expected to make them an integral part of their army, for use by the most skilled of troops, the fastest learners - and perhaps even a few Silent Guard.

Now that the matter of peace has been decided, I will be sending orders imminently-ish. :p

Apparently Terrance's PM box is full, so good luck. :p

A Brief Overview of Changes in the Faith

With the rise and the inevitable decline of the Iron Lances in recent years and the betrayal of their order against the Faithful of Beurtgang, Ostava, and Vahlshallah, the Faith has splintered even further and fractured into more pieces, forming and coalescing into new identities and groups, eager to carry out the doctrine and power of the Faith. Sweeping out of the hills of Vahlshallah are the Spotted Faith, from the river flows the Stone Faith, and from the alleyways and dark corners of cities comes the Shadow Faith, all mixing and jostling with the current Faith members currently in Vahlshallah already. With the peace agreement shoved into the faces of the Eastern Faithful nations, and the Iron Lances shattered and standing aside and Vahlshallah cutting off all tithes and funding to the Iron Lances, new militant organizations have been rising and sprouting like weeds amongst the barren wasteland of rubble that was the strong foundation of the Iron Lances.

The Forsworn:
Primarily composed of members of the highly militant Shadow Faith (which makes the Grey Faith pale in comparison in terms of militancy), the Forsworn are a highly organized and disciplined body of soldiers, marching in tune to a different drum. Polar opposites of the Iron Lances in terms of dress, weaponry, and nature, the Forsworn are nicknamed "Dark Angels" in the backstreet alleyways of the Vahlshallahn cities, known for their peculiar dark armor, fanged and spiked. Using cruelly sharpened swords and curved, half moon blades, they are infamous in their brutality and vengeance. Prospective members of the Forsworn swear no allegiance to the main body of the Faith, to the Faelinkriser, or anyone else but the order of the Forsworn itself, and to all true Faithful nations.

Their primary backbone is made up of the Tal-Sha, or shadow knights. The Tal-Sha use the atypical heavy armor in order to ward off blows by spear, arrow, or sword, and typically wear helms carved in the images of animals, such as lions, wolves, birds of prey, and others of the sort. Tal-Sha are fearsome warriors, and would rather die than break under pressure from enemy soldiers, and are trained excessively well in order to foster brutality and viciousness amongst themselves, to prepare for battle and for war. Underneath them are the Vrangur, or knights of the long shields; more lightly armed and armored, but wielding larger shields and the sort to ward off arrows and form their infamous Steel Scale formation, the Vrangur are no less vicious or bloody despite having about two thirds of the training and knowledge that the Tal-Sha do, and should not be taken lightly.

Another branch of the Forsworn are the Aowlands, the shadow assassins that prowl the dark. Wearing hooded robes dyed black and red, they stalk through the shadows before striking down their target. Those marked for death are warned against their actions by a red nine pointed star painted on a piece of papyrus or on a door, or other such things. The Aowlands know no mercy, having been raised as an assassin since birth, to carry out the directive of the Arch-Crowns, the leaders of their order. The Aowlands and the Tal-Sha and Vrangur work closely together when it suits them, and watch each other's backs when able to; it is not uncommon to find a Vrangur force backed up by Tal-Sha warriors on one side, and Aowlands prowling through the foliage and scenery in order to strike down those that would oppose the Forsworn.

A third and final branch of the order is made up of the reclusive and secluded Hurin monks, warrior priests trained in martial arts and hand to hand combat. It is said that a master Hurin can crush a man's windpipe with two fingers in a pincer formation, and use his staff to impale a plate and bronze warrior upon it before slinging him off. Hurin monks additionally use the winged spear, and other such things in order to keep their enemies at long reach, before closing in to deal a crushing blow to them in hand to hand combat before finishing them off. Typically living in a hermetic lifestyle in the hills and caves around Vahlshallah, the Hurin are scholars and keepers of books and scripts due to the current predicament with the Violet Faith. Hurin scriptmakers pride themselves upon this and are willing kill in order to preserve these valuable papers and manuscripts, as well as copy and illuminate those that were brought from the ashes of Old Valyria, hundreds of years before. Many consider the documents more valuable than their lives, and anyone threatening them can consider signing their own death warrant to try and even the odds.

The Shadow Faith:
Already a bloody and militant force appearing on the scene of Vahlshallah, the Shadow Faith leaders have formed their own splinter of the Faith in response to the Iron Lances decree against the Mandate of Masgard, passed down by the Faelinkriser of the Faith. Clashing with many of the other splinters of the Faith, the Shadow Faith has already made a name for itself in terms of brutality, ambition, and hunger for conquest and glory. Already throwing their support behind the people standing against the Iron Lances and the Iron Faith, the Shadow Faith is supportive and unyielding to the demands of the Iron Prophet Fellip, calling him a heathen and a traitor to his kind. In response to the Iron Prophet's actions, the Shadow Faith has raised their own prophet, Shrike of the Nine Dragons as the Shadow Prophet and leader of the Forsworn.

Spotted Faith:
Men and women of the river waters and farms, descended from a bizarre blend of the Martyr and Grey Faith, have formed a Faith solely dedicated to hunting and killing in guerrilla warfare and such things. Spreading their visionary word of the huntress god vowing to turn the promised land of Vahlshallah to ash if they do not spread the word of the Faith. Clashing with the Shadow Faith and forming their own militant group of the Warriors of Night, the Spotted Faith has become popular in the western fishing hamlets and villages, people incensed by bloody defeats in the west by the Druids and others, vowing revenge. Crewing the third of the Vahlshallahn fleet that was uncaptured after the Betrayal of Nessos, the Spotted Faith live up to their forebearers path in bloody want for war and conflict to exact a painful price of suffering on those that stand against them.

Stone Faith:

Primarily made of the masons and laborers of the Vahlshallahn kingdom, the Stone Faith has found solace in the doctrines of the god of the forge, and have created their own militant group as the others come into conflict with each other over what to do. Worn down by the bloody assaults in the west, and with no less than thirty thousand Vahlshallahn soldiers dead and captured in the Druidic campaigns, the Stone Faith has taken perhaps the harshest stance against the Iron Lances, decrying their betrayal of the other Faithful nations when so many were lost and when so much had been given to them and supported them. The sack of the Grand Temple in Vahlshallah by the Stone Faith members and the slaughter of Iron Lances loyal to Fellip of Nessos only proved that the beer halls and pot shops of the Spire that the Stone Faith frequent are filled with simmering resentment for the Iron Lances and Iron Faith, waiting to boil over and explode in a fury from whatever catalyst there is.

The Knights of Ash:

Backed by the blood and fire of the Grey Faith, the Knights of Ash are seen as silent sentinels, in heavy armor wielding spears reminiscent of the Iron Lances. Disciplined, strong, and indoctrinated into powerful legions, the Knights of Ash are instructed and trained to not break cohesion without first sacrificing everything else, and to hold the line until the very end. Though some would call it foolishness and idiocy, the Knights of Ash are fearsome and perhaps the biggest contender with the Iron Lances and the Forsworn for the dominant Faithful militant organization in the East, with the Iron Lances slowly losing their grip with the sack of the Grand Temple turned over to be used by the Grey Faith and the Shadow Faith. Cruel and vicious, the Knights of Ash are primarily made up of veterans from the border lands with the Teutons, having fought against them for many years and being descended from those that fought that Buggerites and other barbarians, instilling a powerful hatred and xenophobic attitude to those that attempt harm against their order and their nation.

Warriors of Night:
Trained in the art of guerrilla warfare, having been forced to learn against both the Buggerites and the Dragon Horde, the Warriors are perhaps one of the fiercest groups. Having no essential headquarters and being primarily nomadic, they set up camps easily one day, and disappear the next on horseback or on foot, stalking away in the early morning hours in their animal skins and other prizes and trophies of the hunt. Seen as heroes along the western border of Vahlshallah for opposing the Dragon Horde and some periodic incursions into sovereign Vahlshallahn land by small warbands, the Warriors of Night strike quickly and silently like the Aowlands, cunningly destroying the weakest men and army groups that attempt invasions against Vahlshallah.

The Order of Nine Dragons:
New arrivals on the militant scene, and worshipping the newest addition to the Faithful pantheon in the Dragon God, the Order of Nine Dragons or simply Nine Dragons is based around utter bloodshed and viciousness, believing that life and history is just cycles of turmoil and bloodshed, and that if they cause enough it will break the cycle and cause the Songbird and the Dragon God to come forth and bring about a new age. Worshipping him fanatically, they down dragon skull shaped helms and padded leather and metal armor and go into battle seeking to do as their order believes in fully. Though a black sheep compared to the Forsworn, the Knights of Ash, and others, they have shown clear support for the cause of destruction of the Iron Lances in Vahlshallah and assisted in the Sack of the Great Temple and the purge of Iron Lances that stood against the Vahlshallahn kingdom. Deployed to the Teutonland, the Nine Dragons are vicious and not at all saddened with a clear enemy in front of them to fight while they bide their time and simmer with hatred for Nessos and the western Keltians and druids.

I have seen it as such, that no organization or order that believes that the people of Beurtgang and Vahlshallah are not of the "true Faith", and would side with our enemies and condone the slaughter of Faithful brothers and sisters in Beurtgang if we do not comply with their demands, is worthy of our respect or our tithes, donations, support, or assistance, no matter how deeply rooted they are in our culture, in our people, and our hearts and minds. They have turned their backs on us, and we will turn our backs on them. Twenty five thousand Vahlshallahn soldiers have been killed, and a fleet burned at anchor while the survivors trickle back towards Hamburg and Pommerania, Danyria and Kentus, fleeing from the scourge of the druidic demons that all were supposed to stand against. We will not tolerate this, and nay, we shall not; henceforth, the Iron Lances within our lands are disbanded!

-King Sirius at the Spire

Mark my words and mark them well, when the Dragons try to sweep over our lands and the Teutons rise in rebellion and try to overthrow our border, it's going to be bloody. And when that happens, we'll be first in line to slice them open, and see if those petty little Lancers are made out of tough stuff, or if they've become as soft and weak as their heads.

-Unknown Red Faith Commander, before the Eve of Ash

Funny thing, I was told tonight by the leader of the Violet Faith that they would be leaving to Ildaris to find sanctuary there. They asked for safe conduct and passage out of the nation. I laughed at him and told him that I couldn't help them at this point; that perhaps they ought to send a bird to Condate or Nessos asking their friends to help them in their plight. He visibly blanched and backpedaled sputtering, muttering how the Faelinkriser and how Fellip would hear of this. He was about to leave when a quartet of Forsworn dragged him out to the balcony overlooking the Palace square, above the screaming mob of Faithful; Stone, Grey, Shadow, Martyr, Fanatic, Valarian, so many different ones allied together in one moment. The Forsworn picked the screaming man up and hurled him into the crowd, and they descended upon him like crows, like ravens, screaming "Collaborator! Collaborator! How does it feel to save your own hide!" Somebody picked up a stone brick and bashed his face in with it, so much that it was hard to tell who he was when we sorted out the whole mess, and by that point, Spire was wrapped in riots as the White Faith and the Violet Faith were taken into custody to protect them from the mobs that were sweeping through the city. More than a few Ildarian men and women who moved to the city were killed as well, poor bastards; never meant any harm at all, and it wasn't their fault about any of it, but the mobs weren't in a caring mood.

Gentlemen, the time has come. You have your orders, your doctrines, your tactics, your plans. This is merely a formality.

Execute Directive 696.

-Vahlshallahn Military Order, penned at Three Bridges.

Execute Order 66 much? :p

I don't understand the apparent reverence for Order 66, unless it's entirely facetious. It was an absolutely awful deus ex machina for the purging of the Jedi.

Nah, just like using the number 696 and it's inverse, 969 in stuff that I write. :)

It must have sounded good on paper, but having it act out with no warning or hint that it was going to happen before hand was a letdown.

On Hyakkid Governance

The High-King of Hyak, as it is commonly understood, wields supreme authority over the High-Kingdom of Hyak. This authority is both material, as the leader of a large political entity, and ecumenical, as the physical manifestation of the will of Takarzi, the Hyakkid name for Tarias, the Aramyan God of War. Hyakkid mythology maintains that Takarzi is the King of Heaven, and master of all gods- similarly, the Avatar must be the King of Hyak, master of all Kings.

However, theoretical ideals and grand, cosmic metaphors do not always match up perfectly with the truth. In reality, Hyak's growth has been predicated not just on the divinely-inspired military leadership of the High-Kings, but on a series of shrewd political maneuvers, compromises and temporary solutions, which over time began to threaten the very functionality of the Hyakkid State.

The modern structure of Hyak is due primarily to the reforms of Kargash-sar. The full extent of the High-King's reforms is novel in and of itself, but more relevant to our present discussion is how these reforms have affected the modern political entity of Hyak.

At the core of this edifice is the system of Kings and High-Kings. The modern incarnation of Hyak originates from Baragan-sar's campaign against the falling Empire of Aramya. Baragan, at the head of a small army, won the allegiance of Kings the last two independent Hyakkid cities, Khurzel of Alamhadat (New City, named with reference to the Old City, Curgash, the traditional capital of Hyak that had been destroyed during the war which led to the fall of the Zargashid Dynasty) and Hazerel of Merion. Baragan promised the Kings of these two cities continued domestic rule, if they recognized him as their High-King. Soon thereafter, Baragan repeated this feat by winning the loyalty of Laren of Ortun. These three Kings each maintained independent domains within the Hyakkid High-Kingdom, with Baragan commanding the rest of the nation directly, and leading their combined armies in times of war. Of course, Baragan did not command every area directly- he established many intermediaries to rule on his behalf, all the while maintaining the ability to exercise his full authority in these regions if necessary.

This distribution of power would last through the reigns of Baragan, Naran and Sarrukan. It was during the reign of Durgal, the Fourth High-King and son of Sarrukan, that the first Lordship was established. The Hurrian Chieftains who had aided Durgal and Sarrukan in the War of Heaven were granted Lordships, as was Khurtali-bel, Sarrukan's half-brother and the mastermind behind Hyak's actions in the war. Thus were established the Lordship of Shamammu, in the recently conquered northern realm, and the Hurrian Lordships, seventeen small and semi-independent areas ruled by the Hurrians who had possessed the foresight to side with Hyak.

The Lordships lay a step below the Three Kingdoms, but above the lands ruled directly by the High-King. Essentially, they functioned just the same as a Kingdom, but while a King could act with impunity within the geographical confines of his realm, a Lord remained a direct subjects answerable to the High-King in domestic matters.

This iteration of the Hyakkid system lasted through the reigns of Durgal, Nirnur, Curugan and Bardar (well, all five seconds of it). The eighth High-King, Kargash, restructured the Lordships to bring an end to the chronic infighting between the Hurrians, and established a meritocratic system across the lands under his direct control. This system could be broken down into two subsystems- the core regions, where the primary concerns were peaceful affairs, and the marches, where expansion, settlement and military government predominated. In these regions, non-hereditary titles were granted to individuals who had provided significant services to the High-King. While naturally this was a source of alarm for many petty hereditary nobles, the power of the High-King was enough to force the reform through, and within a generation the new order was quite well established.

Thus, modern Hyak possesses three major types of government:

Kingdoms, inherited regions which possess their own armies and possess full domestic autonomy. The two remaining kingdoms, following the extinction of the Hazerelid Dynasty of Merion, are Ortun and Alamhadat.

Lordships, inherited regions which possess limited domestic autonomy. The two remaining Lordships are Hurria and Shamammu.

Marches, uninherited regions subdivided into many small parcels of land, serving the High-King directly and serving as a means of social elevation for competent individuals. The two border Marches are Ruku and Zagartu, while the present Province of Siria has been a march in the past, and the Province of Hyak (though it is not referred to as a March) is effectively governed in the same meritocratic manner as a March.

Just a heads up Terrance, please delete previous orders, and I'll send in some revised ones.

Apparently Terrance's PM box is full, so good luck. :p

In light of this I will be writing up orders once Terrance has confirmed that he does indeed have room for them.

Terrance your PM box is full. So for now I'll post my orders here. Don't peek anyone ;)
I'm kidding, anyone can look, even Axume. Just remember it will be metagaming to use it against me :p, not that I'm doing anything... And not that anyone can stop me ;)

Clearing out box within 25 minutes. I will edit this post when it is done.

EDIT DONE:

The Fall of the Grand Temple of the Iron Faith

"Lance Point Koren, the mob is agitating" reported a young recruit of the Iron Lancers. Sweat dotted his brow as he inched forward towards the heavily armored Captain of the Lance which supposedly guards the Grand Temple. "What shall we do?"

"They are not the Red Faith, of that I am completely certain" mused Lance Point, or Captain of a Company, Koren. "Their speech and demands are completely different. It seems that people who wanted organization and blood have found a compromise."

The rioting grew louder.

"No killing."

"But sir!" stammered the young Lancer.

"No Killing!" shouted the old Lancer.

The young lancer blanched. Then a determined look crossed his face "I want to join them!" he cried, sprinting towards his former mentor. With butt of his lance Koren knocked the wind out of the youth, then smacked the poisoned dagger out of his lands. Grabbing the fallen Lancer by the scruff of his neck, he walked, step by step to the gates, and heaved the struggling rebel over the gates.

"Wait! Wait! I'm One of you! I want to j" the cries of the struggling Lancer was cut short as the mob smashed his armor in with blocks and chisels, made of or for working stones.

They then turned with hatred towards the Lance Point standing before them.

Koren cut off the point of his lance, and turned the Iron Bar towards the crowd and blew his whistle. The Iron Lancers assembled, most copying his actions.

"You shall not pass onto the holy demesne of the Iron Faith" intoned the Lance Point. "I will knock sense into you, but reserve death for the Red Faith. Men of the True Faith! There is no need for conflict between us."

"Death to the Iron Lancers! Death to the Iron Faith!" came the cry again. The Gate was torn down as the Stone Faith and a myraid of others finished gathering. Only half of the Iron Lancers have entered the formation. It was a nightmare of heaved stone, whirling steel, and bodies both bashed in by rocks, and unconscious from the skillful tap of a iron-bound staff. It grew worse as more of the Iron Faith threw off their sacred vows and stabbed the formation from behind with still-lethal lances. Every single Red Faith member in the crowd, however, was singled out and killed by dwindling members within the formation.

They lasted only for two hours before they finally fell. "No... they are not the Red Faith" mused Koren as he laid on the ground with a busted knee, still whirling his staff around him as a giant of a man walked toward him, with a tombstone-shaped block. "They might even be worse."

Thump.

United Egyptian Empire

The Empire is built from several territories, three of which are directly controlled by the king of the empire, and the rest controlled by a master of a territory. Each of the territories in itself is separated to countless Nomes each ruled by what is now called a Nome Governor (changed from Nome King in Wajetosaphir times).

The Three Crowns
Eons ago the Egyptian Empires were separated into two crowns, that of Upper Egypt and that of Lower Egypt. Since the Judeo-Egyptian takeover of the Egyptian throne the Upper and Lower crowns were fully united into a single crown of Egypt, crown of Horus. The Egyptian crown is simply the most honorable of the three and in times when the three crowns are not all under the king, the crown of Egypt decides the ruler of the country. Before the takeover of Judeo-Egyptians the Crown of Canaan was controlled by the Judeo-Egyptians while the crown of Egypt was controlled by the kings of the empire. The takeover united the two crowns for the first time under a single king, and the fall of the Nubian monarchy brought the third crown both under the same single king, and under direct rule of Egypt.

The Crown of Canaan was formed when the royal family split into two parts, and the old dynasty wanted to keep the rightful kings of Egypt away from the throne. The Egyptians conquered Canaan and created the crown given to the ruler of Jerusalem, Egyptians of the second line of the family (that have by now became the only line). The territory is separated into Canaan Major, which is the true territories of Canaan, and Canaan Minor, Arabian lands annexed into the Canaanite crown by the power of the king.

The Crown of Nubia was once a free kingdom, an ally of the Egyptians, but the Kushiite invasion and the murder of the entire royal line of Nubia forced the Egyptian King to send its forces to stabilize the land and a Nubian council crowned him the King of Nubia. Since then that crown has remained under the King of Egypt, but there has been ideas of recreating the Nubian Kingdom under a free king who would be a vassal of Egypt. No candidates have been found as of yet. Nubia is separated into Nubia Major, the ancient lands of the Nubian Kingdom, and Nubia Minor, an annexed land from the Kushiite territory, a punishment by the king to the Kushiites.

The Four Territories
The Territory of Sinai is one of the oldest territories not under direct control of the king. Even since Thebes created colonies in the peninsula and southern Canaan the king created the office of The Master of Sinai Territory. The land is mostly an empty desert but southern Canaan and Sinai have formidable mines of copper and other precious metals. The territory produces much of the weapons of the Egyptian army and the Masters of the territory have always been excellent rulers of the territory, only few uprising have ever needed to be handled directly by the king.

The Territory of Libya is actually different from the others as it is not controlled by a master of territory but by the Libyan tribal council. Ever since the Libyans separated into those who support Egypt and those who are opposed those who accepted Egyptian rule received an extremely high king of autonomy over their lands and since the latest war against Libyan forces the territory has been expanded and more land given to the supporting Libyan tribes.

The Territory of Arabia is simply territories beyond Canaan that has not been annexed by the Crown of Canaan but remained under Egyptian rule when the Arabian kingdom of Bekke appeared. The population is sparse in stable but in cases of uprisings there are plans by the royal house to leave the mostly useless territory.

The last territory to be added under the kingdom is the Territory of Kush. Under other circumstances the Kushiite kingdom would have become a crown territory, perhaps even an autonomous one but the Kushiites chose war against the king of Egypt and by the orders of the gods he was sent to teach them a lesson they will never forget about the order of the world and their place within it. The Kushiite kingdom was annexed as a territory under a Master of Territory who is also a general, which technically puts the entire land under military rule. Many Kushiites were killed in the war, and are being killed right now by the military to create a territory that is easier to control and to make room to Nubian settlers. Already Nubia Minor was annexed to Nubia as Nubian settlers were plenty enough and plans are to recreate Nubian borders, annexing lower Nubia into the Egyptian Crown and giving the Nubian crown the entire territory of Kush.

The Two Expanses
The two expanses are territories under enemy control that is not a full-fledged high kingdom. Tribal lands in Libya or mindless rebel populations as in Kush form the two expanses that are considered military action territories and claimed by the Empire. Any other nation expanding into this territories without consent from the king of the empire will find themselves at war with the empire.

Nice job everybody in making our world a richer, more detailed place! :D. Don't forget the Wiki though! I am going to do what N3S does; i.e. add the wikipage to the stats.

Now, what I am here is specifically for the Keltia Players. I would want final orders by Tuesday, and I would want you to tell me whether you want to vassalize or annex your sections of Ostava.

Also, for your plans, here is the current situation as it unfolds. This is assuming Vahlshallah signed the peace (they didn't yet).

Additionally, Danyaria and Pommerania are maintained as vassals of Buertgang and Vahlshallah respectively. Hamburg is no longer vassal of Vahlshallah, but continues to accept the status quo; i.e. they give Vahlshallah lower rates, send troops to help Vahlshallah for their barbarian problems, and share the militia system with Vahlshallah for now. If only because of the dangerous situation. Kentus is now considered "Protectorate" by both Armorica and Buertgang, favoring the latter. The same is for the reconstruction of Dumonos, favoring the former.

The Forsworn has been formed and all funding in Vahlshallah specifically, and various parts of Buertgang more generally goes to the Forsworn Capital at the Spire. This organization is tied directly to the Vahlshallah state, unlike the Iron Lancers. Within Buertgang itself turf wars between the two organizations do occur, but sparingly as they are both more concerned with the Dragon Horde. However, more inquisitorial Iron Lancers always end up dead and replaced by more barbarian-fighting ones.

The Red Faith are too busy killing barbarians (and having the time of their life) to grumble much, but others do.

The funding the Iron Lancers currently receives is going towards rebuilding the lands it currently occupies and chartering new Faithful units, especially from Danyaria and the Faithful Buggerites, as well as the local Faithful Frenks. It has formed a partnership with the Sufrenkish druidic tribe in Arlens and has reestablished contact with Sardinia.

Domestically, both Buertgang and Vahlshallah see declining populations, which is slowly regrowing only by the end of the next update (within areas not affected by the Barbarians.)

Armorica is also heavily damaged, but people from her heartlands, and also some from the comparably prosperous Alfrenks help repopulate slowly.

As a broad, but minor question, I thought that Pommerania and Danyria were both of my duchies, as well as Hamburg (which split it seems)? Additionally, will spending on domestic economic opportunities increase my population as well?

Danyaria was the Beurtgang Empire's vassal. Hamburg split off and became their own country.

1) Danyaria is related to your culture, but Buertgang's Vassal
2) Hamburg basically had enough, but seeing the atmosphere in your country decided to not push the matter right now. They are their own country but upholds old agreements in a mix of fear and revulsion.
3) What your country need is a) more breeding and b) more men. Your economic situation is actually pretty good (war does wonders for a manufacturing nation) other than food production and other mass industries, since many of them are off fighting some war or another. Buertgang, Kentus, Armorica and Ostava all suffer this to some extent. Best thing to do is time, or maybe a fertility cult.
