America: Write Your Own History

Yeah, the only reason I'm against Bruce is his Imperialist policy. I'm okay with his other policies.

The imperialism will screw us.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. I vote for Long Johns Silvers for a reason. But, now we can say:

"Crickey! Look over there! A wild Australian-American president, in its natural habitat!"

Croikey that's a chomper!

Let me translate:

"Hello there, gentlemen! You rascals may think you are quite intelligent, but I am a smashing politician. Try out 'National Labor' and you might be astonished by the results!"

Hopefully that's right, I've only taken two years of Australian.

And with that furphy of Lucky Country strine, it's time to Harold Holt O.S. a cooee away to Washington.

Tenenbaum, while you are away at Oz, be sure to tell Dorothy, the Wizard, and the Wicked Witch of the West that I said Hi.

1924-1928: Age of Appeasement Ends

Tonight it is again my duty to announce to the country on behalf of the Government the policy which we propose to carry out should the people continue their confidence in us.

Nearly four years ago the Government came into office as a result of a working arrangement between the Socialist and Democratic Parties. This arrangement has continued ever since and as a result of the co-operation and loyal support accorded to the Government by the members of both parties it has been possible to carry out a constructive and continuous policy which has been of great benefit to the country. In making the policy speech one year ago, I stated that in view of the importance of the issues that faced the nation the utmost candour and honesty were demanded from our political leaders. Anyone who endeavoured to mislead the people in order to obtain a political or party advantage would be recreant to the great responsibilities of his position, and would be justly condemned as one who had failed in a great and sacred trust.

I would repeat now what I then said, and in placing before you the policy of the Government I propose to tell you in clear and unmistakable language what the Government believes to be the position of America today; what are the problems which face us, and the course which we must pursue if they are to be solved.

Over six years ago I became a Representative of the Australian Territory, and ever since then I have devoted myself exclusively to the study of the great issues that face this nation.

Is it too much to ask every individual citizen to devote one hour of his or her time to reading and weighing what I have to say?

I would also ask the people to read the policy speech of the Leader of the Opposition, and with a due regard to the past actions of both parties, form their own opinion between the policies submitted in an impartial spirit free from all prejudice. If all our citizens will do this, recognising their responsibilities in exercising the franchise which they are privileged to enjoy, our ideal of an educated democracy determining who shall be entrusted with the reins of government will be realised. -Stanley Bruce, 1924
President Bruce then continued to list off his policies, ideologies, and plans.

Spoiler :

Giving one of the most neutral and bipartisan electoral speeches in American history, Stanley Bruce, whose parents were naturalized citizens after the capture of Melbourne during the Great War, vowed to improve the economy, bring America back to a seat of influence, increase the military, and alleviate partisan disputes.

Disagreeing with Debs' alliance with the Congo, instead opting for a stronger military in Africa to protect itself from foreign attacks, Bruce dissolved the Congolese-American alliance.
Spoiler :

Bruce then set his gaze on Argentina. A nation whose political stability had been deteriorating from decades of war with Brazil, the region of Uruguay (Montevideo) was a center of constant rioting. A nation without sufficient oil reserves, their navy was still dated to the mid-1850's. Bruce found this a great opportunity for American expansionism, seeing as both American businesses and Argentine rioters pushed for intervention.
Spoiler :

With troops once again manning transports heading for Argentina, Bruce concealed the planned war from the public until a better case could be made for declaration of war. The army simply received orders that they were to be stationed in the Southern Hemisphere after accounts of terrorist plans.
Spoiler :

The alliance signed with Brazil roused the media to begin speculating the real cause of departure for the army, navy, and air force. Bruce, despising liars but not willing to create a premature war nor cause war unhappiness within the States, refused to answer these claims.
Spoiler :

Bruce actively worked to reform the military, giving greater focus on the navy. Ordering production of naval ships in nearly all coastal major cities that did not need domestic stimulus, Bruce had hopes to have not only an excellent defense, but a surplus of ships able to blockade enemy ports without risking fishing businesses at home. His reform of military also reduced taxes.
Spoiler :

His military cabinet then pushed him to order construction of guided missiles which could be stationed on the newly upgraded ships.
Spoiler :

In 1926, Bruce's policies were heavily focused on the economy and public welfare. Cutting espionage funding, while increasing the cultural rate to 60, greatly increased happiness around the nation and only lowered espionage from 1900 to 1450. Synonymous with the "Roaring 20's", the rise in American culture gave the inter-war era a sense of national unity. Stars such as Al Bowly, Charlie Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, and Langston Hughes gave a warmth and national brotherhood to the United States.

By July 1927, after nearly 26 months of war preparation and domestic affairs, the military announced the discovery of composites; this discovery promised to out-date Great War-Era tanks and replace them with much more powerful armors. Although too late to upgrade tanks already stationed near Argentina, South Africa was given large amounts of money to renovate the tank divisions.
Spoiler :

This was following the first tested atomic weapon, Trinity, created by the Manhattan Project stationed in Winnipeg, Canada. Following this test, Bruce began ordering the construction of ICBMs: Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. Fully acknowledging that these weapons were only to be used for disastrous, catastrophic emergencies, he hoped the military advantage would convince more anti-American nations to negotiate.

Spoiler :

At Sioux Falls, a project called SDI was begun to counter any enemy nuclear weapons.
Spoiler :

In January 1928, war was declared on Argentina after "sufficient preparation" with an official declaration of war due to "Human rights violations, corruption, and a pursuit against liberty and democracy within the Argentine Empire." Within an hour of the telegram reaching the Argentine capital, missiles began pelting the Montevideo coasts. Bombers and jet fighters stationed on carriers and on the Brazilian border destroyed key military buildings and ruined entire military shelters. Argentine navy, recently renovated after rumors of a war with America, skirmished with the American navy but the navy proved too advanced.

Spoiler :

Capturing Easter Island and northern Chile within a week of the war, Bruce's approval rating was very high among those who supported the war. The war led to a defeat of the majority party at the polls in Sri Lanka, with Pro-Argentine losing to American sympathizers. The election led to a crackdown by the majority party, refusing to let go of office; eventually, Sri Lanka collapsed into anarchy. Pakistan, the second and last ally of Argentina, also began steady collapse.

Spoiler :

With marines storming the Uruguayan beaches, Argentine infantry fortified behind crumbled walls shooting at the oncoming amphibious attack. After days of close combat and inner-city fighting, Bruce announced to the nation that American troops had captured Montevideo and brought law and order to the large, South American metropolis.

Spoiler :

The war, like all wars in recent American history, began temporarily turning sour after the initial attack. A brave Argentine transport managed to slip by the American navy, faster and lighter armed, and stormed an American carrier. The untrained Argentine sailors ambushed the carrier and took the ship, burning the three jet fighters aboard. Bruce's failure to save the carrier, and the loss of millions of dollars in military technology, was the headline of the papers for weeks. Bruce addressed the fiasco honestly and took all the blame. The Naval Act of 1928 was consequently signed, mandating that all carriers and transports need to be accompanied at all times by at least one warship at all times.
Spoiler :

War broke out with half the world after officials met in Rome to discuss an Italian offense on Brazil. Bruce demanded that Italy stay out of the war, stating that the fields of Spain would be liberated without a stress on the American side. China, the quickly rising nation in Asia, then backed Italy. Bruce again stood his ground and stated he would continue the war with Argentina until democracy and liberty was restored. By April, world leaders were meeting in Rome to create a military-pact against the United States' attack on Argentina. Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Italy, England, Indonesia, Holland, Turkey, Mongolia, and China were all present during the meeting and unanimously voted to declare war on the United States. Subsequent attacks by Mexico and Peru ended disastrously, with American troops annihilating the offensives.

At home, with anti-war protests developing, President Bruce then had to deal with a natural disaster in New York where the dam broke, flooding the streets. Giving compensation to the families and personally meeting with victims, Bruce received both applause and criticism during his stay in the Big Apple.
Spoiler :

Germany approached the United States during the war, dubbed the Polly War (after the Australian slang for politician), and offered an open trade agreement. German-American relations strengthened due to a mutual military conflict.
Spoiler :

By late in his first term, Argentina signed a surrender to the United States; being annexed as a territory and renouncing sovereignty. The first annexation of a nation since the Golden Age of Manifest Destiny, Bruce became a controversial figure for American expansion following an era of self-determination. Bruce enacted several bills in condition to their surrender, including a supply of Argentine corn to America to feed the troops.
Spoiler :

Spoiler :

Above: President Torcuato de Alvear of Argentina, who signed the surrender in mid 1928

Meanwhile, the Polly War began initiating off-theater wars in the Old World. China annexed Burma from Thailand following years of political dismay within Bangkok, and Egypt began taking Libya from Italy.
Spoiler :

A world of diplomacy once again began seeming a distant ideal, with world relations beginning to look like they did during the World War less than a decade ago.
Spoiler :

Bruce, running for re-election, focused on his appeasement to both the left and the right, his quick acting during the disaster in New York, the strengthening and victories of the military, and the improving stability and economy of the nation despite the war. Bruce further capitalized on his plans to annex Mexico and Peru, uniting the Americas under American and Brazilian cooperation, and restoring balance to the Portuguese-Italian War.

i wonder how the wild Aussie will get out of this slippery kangaroo sack!

You know, I'm starting to see what looks like a pattern here. Both times we've had a party that has extreme left views, most people vote for someone else just because they're afraid of such views. Both Presidents have started World Wars. Seriously, would giving an extreme leftist a term be so bad. I'm pretty sure they couldn't be as bad as some of our previous presidents. Don't you think it is rather prejudice to dismiss a concept without giving it a chance? If you don't like communism after one potential term then never vote for them again. People thought socialism would be bad but look at us now. Most of America is pro-socialist. So please, just give our candidate a chance.

Foster

the world is at war
blood flows through the streets
as the proletariat weeps.
but it is now time
for the left to at last rise
may the workers of the world unite!

Foster

Let the workers rise
To answer those cries
Peace shall reign throughout the land
If only Americans would make a stand

moved. How do i delete posts?
