SGOTM 22 - Xteam

Here is a test game updated to 600 bc.
There is a small problem with research. At 100% research 33 beakers go into IW in the actual game, in the test game 36 beakers go in to IW. The implication is that only 3 or 4 AIs know IW.
A rough work around is to drop research to 90% while learning IW.
To keep the gold correct run 10% EP and adjust the weights so Sal keeps getting 4 per turn and put the other eps into Darius (he has 58 in real game and about 30 in test)
The Caput Food box has 1 less food than the actual game.
Still no OB with the Celts.

I think I said all I am going to. So I am off until the next players turn.

Just a word of advise. Think about what we are going to do next, that way the changes are more smooth than it has been so far.

@leif, We should not go full on espy route since we want to learn techs that will give us some monopoly wonders. That means heading to Lit on our own and not waiting fro some one to learn it first. After that, and after more so after we have CoL, we can do some selective espy base tech path. But right now, we need to learn the crucial techs.

I hope Ronnie can play this weekend.

Did you all MISS that I played 3 more turns, (reported here)

I can still play some more, the question is where to settle next!

Ronnie, you are doing a good job (I like that you are working the cottage in Caput) and I have no problem with your playing more turns.
As for where to settle, it looks like we learn IW about when we meet the conditions to build a new city. Any city that might claim iron should be #1 spot. If iron is not found, then I am not sure what order of settling copper, gems and jungle (site Htadus liked) is best. Each 1 of those sites has its pros and cons.

I replaced the test game in post 461 with a file that includes a barb near the gem site.

I played to the completion of IW and am handing it off now. Iron is on the ice south of the Deer.

I settled the jungle city even though it will not currently provide the elephant.

Screenie of our archers in Caput before settling.

Just completed our settler for the next city also, just need two more archers in Caput.

The save is HERE

Thinking we need to start forming an army, so suggest the next city to take in iron, fish, and deer.

Is the barb axe a threat in BtS, given the GW?

Good job Ronnie, tough set of turns.

At first I was not happy with settling the Ivory city but it is a good call since we want that city to grow and we can eventually get the ivory connected. However, we need Ivory sooner and we may have to settle anther city to claim it.

One of the biggest priority of the next player is to track what is Sal is learning and the rate.

I see two main options for us.

1. We settle down to developing 7-8 city empire and building the wonders we are after in the capital. Catch up on techs a bit and go after AI when we have construction. Too late to go after Sal.

2. We settle a coastal city N of Iron with fish, deer, iron and 2 3H hills. Plus 2-or 3 more cities. Chop all of the forests in Rome and in other cities into Preats and go after an AI. Preferably Sal, but does not matter.

BTW, does anyone know of a key combination that will un pause a game when using a keyboard without a pause button?

I am no longer against making that trade mission in Gift right now.

Also, there is a site west of the capital with many jungles. How about setting up a city there, and chopping all of the forests into preats to speed the war?

BTW, does anyone know of a key combination that will un pause a game when using a keyboard without a pause button?
Please check your keyboard and see if it has a "Break" key. On my keyboards, the Break key also is the Pause key. So you may be able to use it for that function. :)

I agree that we need to claim the iron and start hunting. :hammer:

If we do build that city and chop out Prets, once the forests are gone suggest we gift it to some poor sucker willing to take it. :mischief:

I'm for Htadus's option 2, and, if no one else wants to play now, I can take the next turn (though can't start on a plan until Tuesday).

I hate to ask this question, but I noticed something when I started to up date the test game.
Was Caput size 6 when Antium was founded?
Looking at the screenshot and reading the log, it appears that Caput was size 5. :( Please tell me I am wrong.

You are not wrong. This is sad.

Ok, I am over being sad. Lets find a solution.

First @ Ronnie. I know I could have made this mistake and do not want you to feel bad about it. I am not holding this against any player. So lets move forward.

Having said that, I am not about to quit either. Since this is clearly an unintentional error, I would like to propose to the moderators to let Ronnie play the game from the turn before settling and wait until the capital grow to size 6 and settle the same city site. If for some reason we can not settle the same site, then we will settle another jungle city that we will choose.

If this is not acceptable, then I would like us xteamers to do the same thing, replay the few turns to be within the rules and continue the game to see how we will do.

But I hope the moderators can make be flexible in this instance since it is not a result of mischief or a planned trick gone wrong. Thank you.

Not an unreasonable proposal, Htadus, but if the moderators view the rules as inviolate (also not unreasonable), I'm not enthusiastic about playing out this unlucky/unpromising start to an inherently frustrating scenario just for laughs. Rather, as they used to say at Wrigley Field, wait 'til next year.

Oh boy...
I would like to avoid DQs. I am not sure how the admins handled these situations in the past. I think if "strict" always was the way to go we need to do the same. But I just don't know how it was done. I need AlanHs input on this one. Please don't play any turns until we discussed this.

I am so sorry guys! :(

Finally got break from work and read what I did. I think I was so focused on the archers and managing the  faces from the whips that I totally lost need to be size 6 the turn of founding that city.

My sincerest apologies.

@BSP, I am away from home and gaming computer until the 19th. Not sure how many turns were played after founding, but it would be in the logs. Basically just trying research IW at that point.

You're easily forgiven. Could certainly see that happening to me, too. Glad we weren't doing great at the time.

Big props to Joe for catching it now, rather than BSP downing us at the end.
